4-0 out of 5 stars Mind Hacks: Tips & Tools for Using Your Brain
It's a book very interested about language in mind and speech comprehension. I read a short comment in BBC Focus magazine and I wish to read because it's very easy to learn the misteries of mind in cognitive science applied to language and psichology.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun book
It is not a typical "hacks" book in that it does not tell you how to utilize you brain more effectively or do neat things. It *does*have a lot of exercises that show you cool things on how your brain works with sections describing how your brain works - and a number of experiments (blind spot, Magnet interaction with the brain, word parsing in the the mind, and so on). This book goes very well with a recent title called _Mind Wide Open_ by Steven Johnson.
5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting reading
I found this book to be interesting in the way that it presents it's topics. It was insightful and worth the purchase. It is the type of book that you select chapters that interest you as opposed to going cover to cover. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Are you interested in wanting to understand and implement the IPv6 protocol! If you are, then this book is for you. Author Silvia Hagen, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that covers IPv6 in detail and explains all of the new features and functions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent discussion of IPv6 protocols
I read and reviewed "IPv6 Network Administration" (INA) in August 2005 and "Running IPv6" (RI) in January 2006.I gave those books 5 stars, so I had high expectations for "IPv6 Essentials, 2nd Ed" (IE2E).INA and RI are very hands-on, implementation-specific books.IE2E is more concerned with explaining protocols and IPv6 features. In this respect, IE2E is the perfect complement to INA and RI.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2nd edition contains lots of practical information
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a network layer standard used by electronic devices to exchange data across a packet-switched internetwork and is intended to provide more addresses for networked devices, allowing, for example, each cell phone and mobile electronic device to have its own address. IPv6 is actually capable of supporting5×10^28 addresses for each of the roughly 6.5 billion people alive today.

2-0 out of 5 stars Miserable dictionary of doublespeak

5-0 out of 5 stars The overall pros and cons of Active Directory, common tips and traps, and more
Joe Richards, Robbie Allen and Alistair G. Lowe-Norris' Active Directory, 3rd Edition is also for Windows administrators who may know all to well about the problems it's brought to prior versions of windows. This edition considers the Directory for Windows 2000, 2003 and its updates, considering the overall pros and cons of Active Directory, common tips and traps, and more. Yes, you can use Microsoft's documentation for many similar answers; but here they are arranged in a more logical manner and provide more candid assessments to help users upgrade or understand options.

5-0 out of 5 stars The single best Apache security book in print
I recently received copies of Apache Security (AS) by Ivan Ristic and Preventing Web Attacks with Apache (PWAWA) by Ryan Barnett.I read AS first, then PWAWA.Both are excellent books, but I expect potential readers want to know which is best for them. The following is a radical simplification, and I could honestly recommend readers buy either (or both) books. If you are more concerned with a methodical, comprehensive approach to securing Apache, choose AS.If you want more information on offensive aspects of Web security, choose PWAWA.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great new to intermediate level book
The Running Linux book is expanded and updated regularly and is designed to bring the casual and new user up to speed with using Linux as well as updated information. This is all done is a distribution-neutral context which makes it one of the better guides available.Of course that also presents problems when a particular distribution does something a little bit different from the norm.If you are a serious Linux enthusiast and have been for some time you will find the book too elementary for your needs but those new to Linux will find it a great introduction. The one real problem that I have with the book is that at times leaves out too much detail and as a result you can't really understand how to use something. An example is the entire section on MySQL and PHP.Then again, there are many excellent books available on these subjects and this is still more of an introductory guide so letting the reader know what can be done and then letting them seek out an appropriate text for the details is appropriate. Not to mention if it included all the details on all the subjects discussed then this would be a multi-volume work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Authors are so smart, they're dumb
This book is pitched, at least in part, to Linux beginners. But it fails in small, maddening ways when speaking to this audience. After a lot of discussion of disk partitioning and install, page 65 tells you to run the "man" command in a shell session. It offers no clue that the only way to terminate a "man" command is the letter Q - a completely unintuitive action. So a new user can flounder forever, or at least until they get frustrated and reboot. But I don't mean to slam just this book. That same problem exists in most other beginning Linux books, even O'Reilly's pocket guide. All these knowledgeable authors seem to think that noephytes will somehow magically gain access to information that the authors have in their heads, but haven't committed to paper.
5-0 out of 5 stars KEEP YOUR LINUX RUNNING
Are you a programmer who is increasingly using Linux because of its extensibility and low cost? If you are, then this book is for you! Authors Matthias Kalle Dalheimer and Matt Welsh, have done an outstanding job of writing this 5th edition of a practical guide that provides you with an overview to Linux as a desktop and a back-office system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Network Security Assessment
explainsa variety of exploits and tells you how to harden your network. This book is very well researched and extremely well written and is reader friendly, as some security books leave the reader lost in techno babble, not this book however very easy reading it now sits on my desk as a ready reckoner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book for security policy enablers and admins
This is one of the few books that I have come across that focuses mainly on the innards of security assessments. The services based security and counter measures are helpful for threat modeling. This book is really great for people in the security risk and threat analysis for a quantitative and qualitative validation. Good book to help in setting up corporate security policy model.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Methodology and Specifics
I've read a heck of a lot of books on security assessments. Some turn into hacking manuals, others turn into windy documents on documenting the process and why each piece of the process is important.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for the Beginner or Advanced PHP developer
As a very security conscious developer, I found this book to be a GREAT resource to my library. Though the book is short in length, it is very rich in content. Chris does a GREAT job of presenting the problem (citing specific examples of the exploits), showing the pitfalls, and then presenting the solutions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good SNMP coverage, but I needed a little more help
Essential SNMP, 2nd Ed (ES2E) fills a gap in being a modern book about an important management protocol.SNMP is used extensively by network management stations (NMS) like Nagios, which is now the subject of two independent books.E2SE does a good job covering SNMP issues important to administrators and NMS users. However, the book's organization and subject matter could be improved in the 3rd edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!
Are you a system or network administrator who could benefit from using SNMP to manage your equipment, but have little or no experience with SNMP or SNMP applications? If you are, this book is for you. Authors Douglas Mauro and Kevin Schmidt, have written an outstanding 2nd edition of a book that demystifies SNMP and makes it more accessible to a wider range of users.

Everyone loves Google, and it's the first place many people turn to locate information on the Internet. There's a big gap, though, between knowing that you can use Google to get advance information on your blind date and having a handle on the considerable roster of fact-finding tools that the site makes available.

Google entered the world of search engines in 1998. It was a second incarnation of a search engine service known as BackRub. The name Google was a play on the word googol: a one followed by a hundred zeros. From the beginning, Google was different from the other major search engines online, winning converts with its friendly presentation and constantly expanding set of options.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for web masters
I read this book about a year ago and recently re-read it.Coar and Bowen provide an excellent pragmatic approach to taking care of common Apache administration tasks. The Apache "recipes" are well organized, and presented with sufficient depth to be understandable for intermedia users.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not beginner friendly
The kind of solutions this book gives are not aimed at someone like me, new and uncertain when it comes to linux. This is a dissapointment for me, as I have normally always been very pleased with O'Reilly books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good accompaniment to other Apache books
As Cookbooks go, this on is fairly decent, although thinner than I expected. There are enough examples in this book to cover pretty much everything you might need to do with Apache or get you started (along with the Apache documentation) if it isn't covered.Read more
