When individuals consider recent events from natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes to terrorist attacks like September 11th, not to mention new government regulations within areas like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley the need to secure organizations information is becoming more critical.Thus an organizations desire to design and/or construct a data center that will meet these needs has increased.

This is an excellent intorduction to facilities considerations for the data center.I think it would be very useful for an IT professional to get a sound understanding of the scope for the physical layer.There is little comprehensive material available today on this aspect of data center planning and management.

A solid reference for the enterprise user and service-provider alike!
When this book first arrived at my doorstep, I figured it would be a quick read, a review of information I was already fairly comfortable with, and just another presentation of the same-old material. I couldn't have been more wrong! Over the lastseveral months, a number of hours have been devoted to leafing through the pages of valuable information, learning something new every time! Szigeti and Hattingh have done a superb job in putting this reference together. From the basic fundamental concepts of QoS, to the tuning and optimization of QoS policies, this book covers it all pretty well. QoS design considerations,both on the campus as well as the WAN, are covered in a way that is easy to understand. A significant amount of material is dedicated to explaining QoS support on the various models of Cisco Catalyst switches, with a solid breakdown of each.A number ofcase studies guide you through real-world examples of how QoS technologies are best leveraged, in clear, concise detail. The at-a-glance guides in the back of the book are also good reference material.For the enterprise user and service provider alike, this guide will prove to be a valuable tool when tackling in the toughest of QoS tasks. I would give this book a solid 5 on the scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being amazing! Great job with this book, keep up the good work!

Incredible 802.11 book
I tend not to read and review books on as broad a subject as "wireless networking."I've read and reviewed wireless security books like Real 802.11 Security and Wi-Foo, but 802.11 Wireless Networks: The Definitive Guide, 2nd Ed (8WN2E) was a departure for me.Thankfully, 8WN2E is an incredible book.It exceeded my expectations and definitely earned its "Definitive Guide" status.

Gast's comprehensive coverage of the 802.11 standard is definitly worthy of the title 'definitive guide'.The reading is fairly fast paced and written in such a way that readers can skip to certain chapters and gain insight on the high level of the protocol with previous knowledge of the lower chapters.For example, one can read about 802.1X and its application to Wi-Fi without needing to read previous chapters as the author provides any re-cap that will be needed from earlier chapters.

The best book for learning and understanding Oracle10g JDeveloper
This latest edition for Oracle10g JDeveloper builds on the success of the previous 9i version. As with the previous version, each chapter is well organized with thorough and accurate examples. Well thought-out attention has been given to explaining Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF). The authors also go into great depth in explaining how to use the newly improved modeling capabilities of 10g JDeveloper (both their strengths and weaknesses).

Solid coverage of Oracle backend technologies.
This book was exactly what I needed.I had been struggling for a couple of months to learn all of the pieces needed to build a business application using JDeveloper.I have some Java experience but not a strong J2EE background.There are plenty of resources around that cover XML, Java, JSP/Servlets and non-Oracle frameworks like Struts, Spring and JavaServer Faces (JSF).Don't expect to learn about those things here.But if you are trying to wrap your head around Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF), this is the place for you.It's the best single source I've seen for that topic.There is a lot of information on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN), but it's scattered and isn't wrapped in a sequential story the way this book's presentation is.Most of ADF Business Component structure has been stable for a couple of years, so the fact that this book is a bit dated doesn't get in the way.

Still enough to pass the CISSP
I sat for and passed the CISSP test in January 2006.I used the following resources to help in passing the CISSP:
Excellent CISSP Book and CDROM - Highly Recommended.
Dear All, I recently completed my CISSP review studies, passed the exam, and completed the CISSP endorsement process. This is a very worth while endeavor and, as someone with many years of Internet security and risk management experience, I highly recommend the CISSP certification process for everyone.Reviewing the 10common bodies of knowledge (CBK) has value for everyone in the IT business and I am very pleased to have taken the time to review the material and complete the exam.For my self-study review, I purchased four books via Amazon: (1) The CISSP Pre Guide - Gold Edition by Ronald L. Krutz and Russell Dean Vines, (2) All-In-One CISSP Exam Guide, Third Edition by Shon Harris, (3) Official(ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam by Susan Hansche, John Berti and Chris Hare, and (4) CISSP Certified Information Security Professional Training Guide by Roberta Bragg. Each of these texts came with a CDROM for practicing test questions on a Windows PC and covered the 10 CISSP CBKs. I found the first three CISSP books in my list to be helpful. Of those three, the most helpful was The CISSP Prep Guide- Gold Edition by Krutz and Vines. This book is concise, well written, and easy to read.The CDROM is excellent and nearly error free.The text is well thought out and informative. I also recommend Shon Harris' book, with reservation. I found it hard to get to the required CISSP information, at times, due to the attempts at humor in the book.The CDROM of sample test questions were also very good, albeit not as rich in features as the book by Krutz and Vines. The Official(ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Examby Susan Hansche, John Berti and Chris Hare was a disappointment. This book read just like a cut-and-paste from the Internet and other documents; and the companion CDROM was full of errors and omissions.After a while I stopped using this text book and focused on the first two.I am sorry to say that CISSP Certified Information Security Professional Training Guide by Roberta Bragg was a complete disappointment from every perspective.The CDROM example tests were riddled with errors and omissions. For those interested in my self-study technique, I took each book and studied one (sometimes two) of each of the CBK chapters each day.Then, I repeated the same process for each of the other books, except for the book by Bragg, which was dropped for reasons mentioned. I took all the sample tests repeatedly, before and after and then again.I must have practiced between 4000-5000 sample questions.It was challenging and enjoyable.In summary, I highly recommend Krutz and Vines and also recommend, with reservation, the book by Shon Harris. No single book can cover the entire CBK of the CISSP. The more you study, the better.Best of luck on your CISSP studies. The CISSP is certainly an experience that will improve your knowledge of the field of IT security and benefit the profession at-large.

Goes into details
This is a great book. Unlike many other CISSP books, the book goes into details of each topic. For example, chapter 2 of the books provide great details on the Kerberos Protocol, and describes it better that any other CISSP book. Good Introductory Book
This is a good introductory book. I particularly liked the applications of the problems, introduced in the book. The main negative point that I could mention is, the redundant explanations and discussions you might see in different chapters. I would say the volume of the book could have been reduced by some 15%-20%, if the authors had chosen to be more concise.
Great book for Network Theory and Application
This book contains a lot of great algorithms for network flow theory and it also contains many of the great applications, which are very useful in practice. This book is very completed. Personally, I learn a lot of new things about Multi commodity Flow, which are the use of Lagrangian Relaxation, Column generation, Resource allocation techniques for solving multi commodity flow. There are also the good chapters in Convex cost flow and Generalized Flow and good appendix in complexity. Beside this book is very easy to read and understand. A trully admirable accomplishment - must have type of book
Before you spend your time and money on purchasing any books on the subject, buy this one first. Depending on your background and your needs, it may also be the last one you will purchase.
An Excellent book and covers the 2.6 kernel
This is an excellent book which explains everything related to the TCP/IP Linux implementation in the 2.6 kernel. There are other excellent Linux networking books, but this is the best one in terms of the details for the TCP/IP implementation.
An Excellent Introduction for an Engineer
This is an in-depth guide to implementing and using the Linux TCP/IP stack.It begins with a general overview of TCP/IP networking, with background information on applicable networking standards.From there, it details the TCP/IP implementation in Linux by following a pack of data as it flows through the stack from the sending system, out the wire, and back through the input side of the stack in the receiving machine. Excellent for Management level
I just finished reading this one and I found it to be very helpful for a person trying to find management level understanding of security, I have been working with networking and security for the last 10 years of my life and it has been very helpful to pinpoint several management aspects that technology savvy people (I prefer that over geek) usually don't follow or look at. I enjoyed the explanations, everything was very easy to read and understand, the introduction to cryptography is simply one of the best I have found out there. Again, if you are a technical guru looking for technical advice there is no much use to it in this book, OS, Networks and other practitioner level stuff are not well defined, simply mentioned for reference or examples. Another part I liked about it was the level of detail that the author had to reference the attacks and statistics, which a lot of us love to read and know about. Finally, make sure to get edition 5 of the book, I am referring to edition 4, I am sure that there is a lot to cover in a couple years regarding security and the way to go about it. I got the book from the university package so I wont be getting the new one, it's simply overpriced in my opinion.

Network Security?
I purchased a copy of this book for a network security class.In a way it has been a great read, for humor.The terms and programs are dated at best, made up at worst.An example, 'drive-by hacking,'I have NEVER seen this anywhere.It is commonly refered to as 'war driving,' showing its lineage to 'war dialing' or 'Snooping'.I have worked in IT security for the past 3 years and I find this book insulting.But, for a plus, it is a convenent size to use as a clip board, and it does hold papers down on my desk well.

Solid scholarship, cogent argument
As the guy in the subtitle, I might be expected to have all kinds of eye-rolling cavils with Turner's book, but I don't.I'm impressed by the thoroughness of his research and his astonishingly accurate depiction of the many brief historical contexts in which his story unfolds.That is hard to do even for people who were there.

Best-of-class book at implementing QoS
CiscoPress's "Cisco QoS - Exam Certification Guide" 2nd Edition by Odom and Cavanaugh is marketed for the QoS 642-642 exam.In reality, this book is an excellent resource for both real-world implementations and for the CCIE R&S exam.Typically, QoS is not a subject that would keep me engaged, but this book does just that.The writing style is crisp, clean and succinct.
Absolutely the benchmark of excellence
The authors absolutely produced a gem in this Cisco QoS Exam Certification Guide.Whilst I used the book primarily to pass the 642-642 QoS exam, this book can definitely serve as a reference to anyone remotely doing anything with QoS.
Great book for your desk and the 642-642 exam.

Entertaining in it's own right...
The Stealing the Network series of books is in a catagory on it's own. Thrilling, entertaining, and fun to readjust scratches the surface of these books. I'll recommend this book to anybody, from joe sixpack who only uses the internet for games and pr0n to mitnick himself.
Useful, readable illustration of computer security concepts
_Stealing the Network: How to Own the Box_ has 10 stories with a first person narrator, who is either an attacker, or in two cases, a defender.While the characterization isn't up to the standards of (good) commercial fiction* in most cases, it makes the technical medicine go down easier and gives a picture of who and why people do this stuff.That picture is useful in making an abstraction feel more like a concrete threat.
Rough writing, but interesting
The writing needs some help -- I understand the newer books are edited by an actual writer to smooth out the prose a bit.

An excellent overview
In just a decade, Bayesian networks have went from being a mere academic curiosity to a highly useful field with myriads of applications. Indeed, the applications of Bayesian networks are wide-ranging and include disparate fields such as network engineering, bioinformatics, medical diagnostics, and intelligent troubleshooting. This book gives a fine overview of the subject, and after reading it one will have an in-depth understanding of both the underlying foundations and the algorithms involved in using Bayesian networks. The reader will have to look elsewhere for applications of Bayesian networks, since they are only discussed briefly in the book. Due to space constraints, only the first four chapters will be reviewed here. Enjoying this book enormously

A good primer to computer networks and its design
A comprehensive textbook for undergraduate/graduate students.The book is complete with basic coverage to different types of networks and their working.Treatment to TCP and other Internet protocols well explained with pseudo code for different algorithms.Various extensions to TCP and network security basics well covered.The book does lack some mathematical treatment to the subject which could have improved the content.

Good for Academic Studies.But...
I am studying this as part of my course.I have found this book teaches you from the base about Networking.It's really helpful in understanding the underlying technologies.Larry and Bruce have done a wonderful job in covering almost all of the aspects.But... I found only one thing lacking.That is...graphical explanations. This book is more of text with required graphics but in some places it took time to visualize the concept.I have had Behrouz A. Forozan's (I hope I have spelt the name correctly)"TCP/IP: The Complete Protocol Suite" along with this.Particularly I found some of the parts like ATM, Routing and other chapters' in this book textually gives us a thorough understanding and Forozan's book does depict that visually in a better way.Here is the bottomline, have this book as "The" texbook and have some other books like the as I mentioned before.

For help with EnCase in book form, start here
I decided to read and review three digital forensics books in order to gauge their strengths and weaknesses: "File System Forensic Analysis" (FSFA) by Brian Carrier, "Windows Forensics" (WF) by Chad Steel, and "EnCase Computer Forensics" (ECF) by Steve Bunting and William Wei.All three books contain the word "forensics" in the title, but they are very different.If you want authoritative and deeply technical guidance on understanding file systems, read FSFA.If you want to focus on understanding Windows from an investigator's standpoint, read WA.If you want to know more about EnCase (and are willing to tolerate or ignore information about forensics itself), read ECF.
