The Standard!
I used this book to deploy Oracle Application Server 10g infrastructure on Linux and UNIX. I felt that it was a good book and overall I have little ill to say about it. The examples are well written and do a good job of reinforcing what you read in the handbook. You read a little then do an example, then read some more, then add to the example and so on. You don't need any Administrative experience to use this book just a decent understanding of application design. The only criticism I could offer is that the editor should have used arrows when content is being continued on a new line for reasons of page space so that readers will know and understand (beginners can have trouble with this). It's a good book for learning Oracle Application Server 10g as a whole from the ground up and for this reason it's worth the money. It's not an overnight crash course (if that is what you are looking for).

Very Nice Job
I have taken the iAS 10 Admin I course from Oracle, and wish that I read this book prior to the class.I found it very valuable especially if you are deploying iAS 10g (9.0.4) on Linux.I highly recommend the book to iAS administrators/DBA's.

Summary of the White Papers
As an administrator/implementor of these systems, there are many aspects to administering the 10gAS system. Although the authors do make reference the book intends to simplify the rather large amount of documentation, it falls short of a complete guide.

I should have read the reviews on Amazon
I, too, found this book to be problematic.Arguably, one of the most challenging concepts to understand and demonstrate on the certification exams is subnet planning.
Too many mistakes, the first one was me buying this book!
Do NOT buy this - you will end up spending time returning it, or worse, having it sit on your shelf because you don't have time to return it and you just wasted a ton of money on this book!
Way too many mistakes!

Four stars if reorganized and distilled, five if updated
I first looked at Inside Network Perimeter Security, 2nd Ed (INPS:2E) for my blog, in May 2005.I decided to try reading it this week because I've been reading books on related topics.Individually, the INPS:2E authors largely know their craft.Unfortunately, the book is so poorly organized and diffused that I don't know why other reviewers rate it so highly.Furthermore, the choice of material covered and certain recommendations drag the book down.A third edition might be promising, but I recommend avoiding INPS:2E.
WOW!
What a book...As a relative new comer to IT security I'm digesting all I can lay my hands on. This book by SANS Institute is a rare gem. It starts easy and escalates subject by subject. This is the kind of book where I read a chapter, think about it for a week or so, then pick it up for another chapter. There's just too much for me to blast through, and gather all the knowlege. I award 5 stars and I'm not even finished yet

Great book
This lab companion taught me the basics of what is required for the other 3 classes of the CCNA certification.Things such as building a basic Peer-to-peer network, building a basic lan/wan, and also subnetting of class A-C networks.Great book!

Getting familiar with the router and its commands.
This e-trainer helped me put alot of the router commands that I had only read about to work. I recommend this e-trainer for those who want to get familiar with navigating in a router and for those who need to get familiar with how the routers interact on a network. Stay away!!!!!!
Stay away from this thing! Don't believe the 5 star reviews, they are most likely fake. This product is VERY buggy, lots of problems. Also, it is VERY limited in what you can do, you pretty much have to stick to the few labs, no have no room to "play" and try different configurations without running into trouble or getting errors. Not anywhere worth the $$$ they are asking. Even if it was free,it is a frustrating waste of your valuable time. If you are smart you will not buy this. I would give it 0 stars if I could!

A good tool for learning to configure routers
If you don't happen to have access to a Cisco router (who does?) but do have access to a PC, this tool can simulate about 80% of router configuration prompts, and 100% of the ones that Cisco tests on.Router configuration and routing table organization is roughly half of the CCNA exam, so this can help greatly in preparing for thoses parts of the test. ... You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
Life Saver
In regard to "Exam Cram, Life and Health" I would recommend this book to my adult children if they want to pass the California exam.In addition to being a great test preparation book, I was able to get my computer to read the book to me, by using Adobe and Microsoft text-to-speech programming, which is free to the general public.This book was much better than the text provided by the school.It even includes information needed to open my own business.

Excellent Oracle reference tool
I was part of the Oracle implementation team at our company, and I have found this book to be a useful tool for myself in the year since implementation as we continue to explore new functionalities. It is also a useful tool for the application users to learn how Oracle works.In fact, I not only purchased this book for myself, but I have purchased copies for several other people in the company.I refer to it all the time.

Very good exam and real world based book
I went to the MOC2824B training a few months ago and didn't like it that much. If you, like me go to the official training you will find that is very much alike. But the autors included a lot of real world notes and insights for the exam on the book that you wont find on the MOC manual. Be ready to mount the practices on a virtual machine environment or real one if you have all the hardware, you will have fun anyways. Labs are filled with very usefull skill building exercises that will entertain you and teach you big time what this great product is all about. I passed the exam last week with 894/1000, and I thank not only my experience with the product but also all the good advice from this book. decent book but not enough
Half of this book is good information and the other half is an index with answers to the book questions.I liked the CD test engine- it helped me pass the 100 question Security+ test today.This book alone is 70% of what you need to pass Security+.Spend your money on measureup.com and transcenders and fill in your knowledge from there.I was able to pass by drilling for a week on 500 different questions rather than reading the fastpass and this book.Careful with measureup as the test I bought was last edited in 2002 but it was still a big help!

On the mark for those that want just the facts.
I recently passed the Security+ exam and the Wiley Security+ Prep Guide was one of my main books. Don't let the size of it fool you as it covers the topics including needed details. Though not an Exam Cram type book it is for those users that like to cut out all the fluff and already understand most of the material on the Security+ exam. Though I could have probably passed with this book alone, if you are not comfortable about the topics and are not failry familiar with tcp/ip, VPN's, routers, firewalls, access controls, PKI, malware, etc you may not want to use this as your first book.
An excellent book, which covers a lot of finer details
I used this book in conjuntion with the Syngress book and exam cram 2 practice questions. This book definitely covers a lot of material in a short amount of time. You could read this in 2 or 3 days if you sat down and took your time with it.It actually filled in alot of gaps that the Syngress book had (small details that actually show up on the exam) Using those 3 books, I scored an 874 on the exam on March 4th. ... Test Preparation, but also a lot of Basic Material
It has taken a while to get this book published. 1230 pages of material takes a lot of time to put together. Obviously the stated aim of this book is to prepare the student to take the exam. However, even if you are not planning on taking the exam, the material covered here is a complete book on Windows Server 2003 Networking. It covers everything from defining TCP/IP to troubleshooting nearly any kind of trouble.

I suppose this is a good book.Typical Microsoft white paper with discussion related only to MS.

I haven't read this yet. I'm still going through the XP book, but if this one is even close, this book is a must. An easy read and well laid out. The accompanying CDs are very beneficial also.

Horrible
Of the thousands of pages read preparing for one certification for another --- this is the worst book I have come across.Frankly I am so disapointed I may well not purchase another book from this publisher.

You're only choice.
The PMI approach in generalis complicated for the sake of being complicated. It reminds me of the IT guys I used to work with. Rather than just give a straight answer, they couch everything in a wordy overly descriptive soliloquy in order to seem important and smart. In the same way, the PMI took a relatively straightforward discipline such as Project Management and analyzed and 'decompressed' it to death in an attempt to seem scientific - in order to appear more impressive and legitimate. Well, if all of these corporate giants buy into it, we have no choice but to learn it and live it. And if you have to pass the PMP cert. test, this is the book you should be reading. NOTE: avoid the Dummies book like the plague.

PMP Review
I have found this book and CD to be helpful in studying for the PMP exam as well as information about Project Management from a practical perspective. It is easy to read and well thought out.
An engaging, user-friendly book
As a newcomer to project management, I was a skeptical about finding a book which would make the subject interesting and approachable. This book does both. Phillips's writing style is lively and engaging - he gives a sense of being with his reader every step of the way. Despite the fact that the book is more than 500 pages long, it is organized well and moves quickly. I was able to keep track of what I was learning through the summaries and key terms at the end of each chapter, along with the extensive glossary and appendix which condenses key ideas for the exam. The self-tests at the end of each chapter also allow the reader to interact with the text and practice what they've learned. After working through these, I felt well-prepared for the exam, as I found out from taking the practice version, included on the CD which comes with the book. Overall, the text is generous in what it offers for the price. It provides an effective, user-friendly approach to preparing for the PMP exam. Elizabeth Lee, Ph.D.

A very bad book
This book doesn't cost its money.

This book worked for me
I used this book, and one other, to take and pass the Oracle Certified Professional exam (OCP).The other book I used was Oracle Press' PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide, which focuses just on the second exam.This book covers all of the exams, but the second exam is especially difficult, and a friend recommended that one for that exam specifically. Too basic
Good book for a beginner (this is an excellent intro to SQL and PL/SQL), but not enough depth for the exams.It covers all the necessary areas, but barely skims the surface on numerous important topics.I recommend the Sybex book (even though it's a little dry).For each test, I'd start with this book and then move on to another text; that should be all you need to pass the exams.Be sure to PRACTICE; that's by far the most important element of success. ... Do not bother
This book is a joke. It is poorly written, the grammar is crazy and wrong, and it dwells too much on events that are not important (click next, and click next, then click ok, and then next...). You would be well-advised to read another book, as well as BOL, before attempting 70-228.
passed first ime.... but....
I just passed 70-228 first time using just this book and BOL as guides. I found the first half of this book a waste of time.Way too much attention to how-to examples of performing steps in the GUI (Click this, click next, click OK).The second half, however, was much more useful.One thing though.It is useful in that it offers a failry concise, objective by objective, summary of what you will need to know for the exam and then points to BOL for the actual information.It is short on providing information in and of itself.
A complete waste of time and money!
Luckily I am already an Oracle DBA or I would not have been able to make real-world sense of the material presented in this book. In my opinion, it is pretty much worthless if you are preparing for the 70-228 exam or if you are wanting to work with SQL Server on the job. However, it is a great doorstopper/paperweight (which is why it is worth one star). Yes, I have passed the 70-228 exam, but I can guarantee you my passing had absolutely nothing to do with this book! ... Read more
