Excellent Book
This book covers all the objectives of SCJP 5.0 and moreover in an excellent manner. What I liked most is that this book makes you well aware of what exactly is in the exam and what is not. For instance, the exam objectives include classes like String, DateFormat, File and so on. These classes contain a lot of methods. This book will tell you which you need to know for the exam. This saves a lot of time and effort. To conclude - don't think just buy it and success will follow!!! I passed my SCJP 5.0 with 93%.

Pretty good for those with experience
I used this book to help me pass the exam the first time. The book gives you a lot of helpful tips to write the test. The practice exams are really good. Each topic was covered fairly thoroughly in both tests. The book is definitely worth the money. Even though the book does go over the fundamentals, I don't think the book covers the fundamentals (OO design, Java Basics) well enough for a novice developer.

Excellent reference material.

Working on your MCSE? Then get this set of books
This was my sole study guide for the MCSE Server 2003 based certification path, and I was not disappointed.The format is clear and easy to read.The books do a fantastic job of outlining WHY you are learning something, not just WHAT you need to know to pass the exam.I think this is what sets MS Press books apart from the competition: the book itself is structured to the best LEARNING format, and NOT to just passing the exam.I came away from these books with a much greater appreciation for Microsoft's Server and AD technologies (I come from a Linux background since 1995 and I'm the first to knock MS), and these books will be on your reference shelf for years to come -- or at least until the next version of Server ships.

I've belonged to the Unix world since 1993, working with low level stuff as kernel, device drivers, virus, assembly, C, etc.. and now I'm trying to learn Windows a bit and have enough conditions to take all tests (290, 291, 293, 294). No problems. This a very good kit about MS Windows 2003, well written,well organized and deserve 5 stars.
Pretty Good

By far the BEST book for CISSP certification
I have been teaching the CISSP certification for IT Mentor for the last 5 years.This is the book I use for all of my students.I must say, this is the best book you can buy.I have over 20 CISSP books in my library, but I always recommend this one.
Good book, though some turn offs
The book has a good coverage on most of the topics. I think if you already have Telecom and Crypto background, you'll be fine with this book, as those don't seem to be done well enough though they are important fot the exam.
How to study and pass the CISSP.
Three weeks after I took the CISSP exam, I received an email telling me I had passed. I came out of the exam fairly confident I'd pass but one can never be too sure with the CISSP - the questions are quite ambiguous and quite often you are making an educated guess in picking out what you think is the best among the 2 choices you have narrowed down to. It has often been said that the CISSP is an exam that is an inch deep and a mile wide. You'd be lucky if you use more than half of what you studied for this exam. I am a software engineer and I know I will never have to choose which fire extinguisher to use for which kind of fire, unless I am actually struck in one!

Disappointing
I took the exam today....and....passed.Phew!This is one VERY tough exam to study for.I spent about 200 hours preparing for this exam.The exam is very broad and very deep.I bought this book and used the Transcender.
Acceptable Study Resource
I read this book twice. And I used the MS Press Training Kit Exam Prep application. I studied all 304 questions. I passed the test. So the study guide works. And this was the hardest exam I've taken (I've taken six).
I passed and that is the most important thing
Well I just took the exam today and passed (I didn't do exceptionally well but I have the certificate!). My only source was this book. By me passing I guess you can say it did the job for the task at hand. About 11 out of 16 of the chapters in the book are very easy to understand and very helpful and straightforward (minus the typos). However, some of the others, particularly those dealing with diagnostic and management configuration could use some work. My biggest issue with the book is not with how it is written, but the content. There were about 5 questions which I had no clue about and do not remember their content being directly mentioned (if at all) in the book. I am not pointing fingers at anyone, but there is a problem there with either the book's content or the access the authors had of what would be covered on the exam. All in all, I give it a 3 out 5 since I did pass. Although, I did study this book everyday, heavily, for three straight weeks. As for the practice questions, I thought they were ok as well. They helped me learn some things not covered in the book (oddly enough)and were useful to point out important points on specific topics. Pretty good kit
I've been working with SQL2000 for a few years (but no MS Cert), but really interested in getting my MSTS cert in SQL2005. I've started this kit/book, and so far seems to be a pretty good system overall. Good hands-on excercises, and if you have the resources to do so, be sure to set up a good test/play system to work with during this course. I don't really care for the practice test software that is in this kit (and no, not just because I missed a couple questions!), and have always used Transcender exams for material like this. Just seems a little awkward, and even though I've tried a couple of times, I've found it difficult to test just on certain subjects, such as Chapters 1 & 3 for example. The software would generate a test with a few items covered in later material - - but then again, this testing software was new to me. With that said, I'll will probably get the Transcender to suppliment this kit.

Good for reference and for the exam
This is one of the best Microsoft Press Training kits that I have seen. It has good overall coverage of the administrative features of SQL Server 2005 in addition to covering the exam objectives. It also has some useful dynamic management view (DMV) queries. It has a good lesson on how table partitioning works, which is very useful. Overall, a very valuable book.

Taking the test which this study guide is focus to is a very important step before give any content's feedback (i'm still preparing myself for the test) But i will give my 1st impression about the book anyway.

CCNA Study Guide
Very Information Study Guide for the CCNA Certification Examination. Alot of new material since I read the 3rd edition of the same Study Guide.

The best CCNA book for certification.
Although I am a reviewer for Cisco Press, I have found that the Sybex book series is much more understandable for the average person trying to achieve their CCNA certification.I teach the IT Mentor 2 Day CCNA Boot Camp and have used this book for the last 5 years.Over 5,000 of my students have used this book!
Just passed CCNA, I would recommend this book.
I just passed CCNA with 974/1000.I used this book, Cisco Flash Cards and Boson NetSim 6.0.I dont suggest you to use solely this book and expect to pass CCNA.I recommend you to do plenty of hands on labs along with this book.I found that a lot of questions from CCNA exam were from this book, some even word for word (I noticed that from ISDN chapter).Although this book done a great job explaining but I wouldnt have pass the test with this book alone.The there are a lot of drag and drop questions and three heavy weight sims on my test.I hope this help, and remember "Ping" and "show cdp neighbor details" is your best buddy :)Good luck. ... Good resource that is missing information
While the content that is coveredin the book is covered in very good detail there are gaps between what is tested on (based on the Measure Up practice tests on the compainion CD) and what is covered in the book. This book does not adequately cover IIS (no mentions of virtual directories for example), does not cover CHAP, MS-CHAP, EAP security. Very important details on how to use Sysprep need to be added (How to add additional drivers to sysprep images, building a single image for use on varied hardware).
In depth and easy to read
This book is excellent. While I am pretty well versed in XP, this book is filling in the blanks nicely. The accompanying CD has a PDF of the book and some excellent multimedia presentation files on various subjects.
Substance and Fluff
This book really does cover the most important topics in substantial detail.It's well worth the money in terms of enabling one to prepare for the exam.Just the same, it can put me to sleep like almost no other book - not because the technology is not interesting - but because it reads too much like a technical document with paragraph upon paragraph of hyper-specific, redundant detail such as: review the following questions, if you have difficulty answering them, go back and review this material until you feel comfortable with it, blah blah blah, zzz.This kind of content gets repeated in every section verbatim.Yuck!Just cut out the fat, and we would have at least a good three hundred pages less of fluff.Otherwise, well worth the money. ... good resource
The text was a great resource.I also studied with an HR textbook, and this book was better.The author used a lot of first-person language instead of objective, third-person, which was kind of annoying to read.I also think that the study tests were lacking...more questions were needed to give a feel for the testing environment.It came with a CD with flashcards for the palm pilot...those were not very helpful..you could only have one set of 25 on the handheld at a time, and they were in a Q&A format, but the test is in multiple choice.

I got my SPHR because of this book!
Great study tool if you want to "go it alone" preparing for the SPHR/PHR.

A Good Resource only for HR Majors
Luckily I passed the PHR exam but I'm not sure this book was responsible for it.If you majored in Human Resources in college and need a refresher on the terms and concepts this book will work for you.It helps with the terms and concepts but will not help with the exam since most of the questions are subjective.

Big Thick Book With Little Content: Beware!
I have more than 15 years of project management experience. I've read this and quite a few other PMP books from cover to cover. Most of the reviews on this page sound like a propaganda to me. This book gives you the impression that it's a big book and must be covering lots of material. But this, in my opinion, is not true. It's big due to the large font and because most of the space on each page is empty.
Great book to study for the PMP!
I used this book along with two others. I took the exam before purchasing this book, and I did not pass, but after using this book, I passed with flying colors. The author organizes the material clearly and explains things very well. I wish I had purchased this book the first time!

good for training, but seems incomplete
It is a good tool for exam practice, but doesn't seem too useful for practical network mapping, simulation, or planning.There's just too much that's incomplete.Commands are missing including some advanced routing protocol support, there's no support for larger switches, and some of the diagnostics are pretty kludgy.There is a CCNP version of the software that supposedly addresses these, but I haven't tried it.It may seem fairly expensive, but it is still a lot cheaper than buying an assortment of cisco gear to run through the exercises.

Too many mistakes
I read the other reviews on Amazon before purchasing this product.I saw some were good and some were bad.I thought, well, people have different opinions and I may like it.No.There are too many mistakes.Others have commented on VLAN issues with the 2950's.I had the same problem.Any more than 3 vlans and it just wouldn't work.It was very frustrating in that I wasted ALOT of time thinking it my configs at first.Then there is some kind of bug with pings.When you ping from one specific PC to another across your virtual network the entire application shuts down.This will consistently happen so you must remember which PC's you can and can't ping to and from safely and make sure to save everything before every ping.You will put in configurations then 5 minutes later do a "sh run" and they will mysteriously be gone.Or take a network statement out from under OSPF but it just will NOT remove it.Lastly there is the user friendly-ness.I rate this as a zero.It is the most cumbersome application I have ever used.It would have helped had I been able to open the user guide but that did nothing when I clicked on it.I lost many a network because I didn't save the topologies and configs correctly.So I called Boson for help.You have to leave your name and number and they will call back within 48 hours.That was 2 weeks ago.I have not heard from them.

Poor Implementation of ACL's
I sent the company some feedback last week and have heard nothing from them. Product does not apply ACL's properly to interfaces and has problems recording matches to outbound ACL's. Also there are problems with alternate vlans on 2950 switches. Numerous bugs running verion 5.07 with latest patch. Was a very disappointing purchase.

best book to pass the oca 10g exam
i buy this book together with sybex's book and have passed the oca exam with 87% score (less than what i expected though). i found this book easier to read and understand compared to sybex's book, and the many-but-short chapters works better for me. if you could only choose one book to pass the 1Z0-042 exam then this is definitely the best choice. but don't forget to practise what you read (although the book makes it looks so simple), you'll remember more by trying each exercise in this book.

Good OCP Preparation
I used this book to (sucessfully) prepare for the OCA exam. It is well structured and important points for the exam are specially highlighted. This makes the content memorable and easy to learn.

The book is great... I gave a bad review b/c of amazons way of charging me 6 dollars to read the book online when I never saw any print about that... I didn't want to pay for that, and there is no way they going to let me get out of paying it.I would recomend this boook to any one intersted in A+ certification, however buy the book from anyone outside of amazon.

Good Book, Big Inprovement from the 1 edition
Very Good Book. If you didn't know already the CCNA exam is no Joke. You really have to know the concepts and you really need a good book to prepare for it. Cisco is not giving the CCNA Certificate away anymore. They really want you to learn and earn it. I purchase this because I felt the sybex CCNA didn't cover the exam in full detail (Especially the NAT section). This Book is Well Written. Too many errors, poor format, index lacking
I am studying for the PMP and have NOT sat for the test yet. I read this book (cover to cover), read the PMBOK-2005, and another book called 'PMP in Depth' (P. Sanghera).
Best Reading to Pass PMP Exam
I bought and borrowed many books to study for the PMP exam and this was the BEST book, both in the material it covered and the way in which the material was presented. It is one of the few that take your through the project management process as you would really experience it, from project inception to closeout. Most other books geared toward the PMP exam organize the material based on the PMI knowledge areas, which have so much overlap it becomes confusing. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. If I coul give it 6 stars I would give it 7!
Not only the content is way to complete for the exam and the real life, the learning metodology is a work of art, it is very light to read (unlike other technical books that dry your brain in one hour).
Authors have clarity

Not Enough End-to-End Examples
This book has its strong points and weakness. It explains certain concepts really well. However it did not have much end-to-end exercise for people to practice. Only 1 end-to-end example in the entire book as I recall. Therefore, it is hard to sink in what you have read. Especially, jsp and servlets need to have multiple pieces put together in order to make the application run. The example does not need to be complehansive, but will help the readers to put all the pieces together. If you are looking for examples to guide you through, then this book is not for you. ... On topic, but needs much better editing
I read and studied this book," Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam", for my one study aid in quick preparation for the CISSP exam. I found the book's coverage of topics and the common body of knowledge to be fine; indeed the book is tuned to the CISSP exam's intended scope rather well. The problem with this book is quality control and the details. Just to get it out of the way, what annoyed me the most is that many of the sample "exam questions" are flawed lacking quality control. Not flawed like the CISSP exam questions themselves are known to be, but simply poorly written. The answer section for the sample questions has many flaws and mistakes: such as mixing up answers for other chapters' questions, unfinished text, etc. A frustrating way to end each chapter.
Cosider a must-have
I rate this book very hight because it is a serious content / concept based book for not only the exam but to really make things clear that it covers.
Good book, but not end-all be-all
A very useful resource for anybody interested in the field of Information Security. It provides an overview of the 10 bodies of knowledge that candidates for the CISSP exam are required to master. However, while this book is excellent as reference material, it is not as suitable as a study guide. Due to the nature of the book (it is authorized by many different writers), there is quite a bit of repetition of material, and slightly different viewpoints on what often appears to be the same issue. Sometimes, the differences between the viewpoints are not clearly articulated, which may lead to confusion.

Wireless and Cellular Networks is a great climax in the other 2 books written by this author Network Administartion and Advanced Network Administration. This book will keep your eyes focused on the goal of getting your Network+ certification!Mike Myers writes in a way everyone can understand, and has many examples and pictures.The book does look big, and it is.Just remember that all the pictures take up about half the book (good thing to, some of it would be hard to understand if they weren't in there!).Go and get this book!

I was very happy with this book
I used this book as my main study guide for the Network+ exam, along with his Network+ Passport.Mike says that you will pass the exam, not that you will score a 900 on it, and I think this is probably accurate.I studied this book, taking notes and reviewing as well as using the practice exams.I also bought my test voucher from Mike's company which gave me additional practice exams.I passed with a decent score (763)and most of the material I saw on the test was in the All In One book.
it's a good place to start, but not all-inclusive
i have my A+ cert but i did not have any experience with networking prior to reading this book. i passed with a 715, so for newbies like me, it can be done.

Not as good as they want you to think
For general information it's ok. The information is ill-organized and when working through the problems at the back of each chapter, many of the answers are not actually provided in the book -- you are expected to research further in referened material in the chapter. When an instructor has to give the answers to problems that are in the back of the chapter because the chapter does not actually have enough information to solve the problem, there is a problem with the book.
Overly wordy
Oh my gosh this book is sooooo wordy. It's 800 pages long, yet it probably could be condensed to less than 600, all without the loss of clarity. The authors explain everything to an excruciating degree, and often times things are repeated over and over again. For example, on page 194, a sentence reads:

I found this book the best reference yet that I have come across to give a person a great deal of knowledge in a rapid and easy to understand format. It deals with internet protocols and other networking principles-- it is a great book to start with.

Not adequate for the Access certification test.
This book appears to be fine for a general review of the Access topics, but is lacking in detail for the test. I found that the book alone would have been totally inadequate for the certification test. The MeasureUp online training had value, but it too was limited. Access 2003 has a sorting and grouping icon, yet what I found was that I needed to use Access 2000 procedures for this and other MeasureUp tasks, without the newer icons. The MeasureUp study guide was well-presented, yet I faced a culture shock on test day. The questions were formatted differently, the questions significantly different than the way MeasureUp presented them. MeasureUp wrote their questions in a clearer manner than the test, but the problem is that I needed to see the questions as they would be on the test. The text is essentially a step-by-step book, not of test-taking value. I will keep it as a reference, which was not my reason for purchasing it. The MeasureUp training was great, but not related to the actual test.

This is very much a study guide and is not really aimed at the inexperienced user.It presumes a lot of knowledge and focuses on preparation of the exam elements only.If you need in depth knowledge then there are better books (QUE, other Microsoft products).As a refresher for the exams I have found it to be excellent.It can highlight the areas needing more study and its exercises get your mindset into the MOS exam process.I would recommend it as part of your arsenal in preparing for the MOS exams.
