5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for learning and understanding Oracle10g JDeveloper
This latest edition for Oracle10g JDeveloper builds on the success of the previous 9i version. As with the previous version, each chapter is well organized with thorough and accurate examples. Well thought-out attention has been given to explaining Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF). The authors also go into great depth in explaining how to use the newly improved modeling capabilities of 10g JDeveloper (both their strengths and weaknesses).
5-0 out of 5 stars oracle jdeveloper 10g handbook
it is wath i was looking for. Complete, simple and perfectly explaned; in one word perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid coverage of Oracle backend technologies.
This book was exactly what I needed.I had been struggling for a couple of months to learn all of the pieces needed to build a business application using JDeveloper.I have some Java experience but not a strong J2EE background. There are plenty of resources around that cover XML, Java, JSP/Servlets and non-Oracle frameworks like Struts, Spring and JavaServer Faces (JSF).Don't expect to learn about those things here. But if you are trying to wrap your head around Oracle's Application Development Framework (ADF), this is the place for you. It's the best single source I've seen for that topic. There is a lot of information on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN), but it's scattered and isn't wrapped in a sequential story the way this book's presentation is.Most of ADF Business Component structure has been stable for a couple of years, so the fact that this book is a bit dated doesn't get in the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best-of-class book at implementing QoS
CiscoPress's "Cisco QoS - Exam Certification Guide" 2nd Edition by Odom and Cavanaugh is marketed for the QoS 642-642 exam.In reality, this book is an excellent resource for both real-world implementations and for the CCIE R&S exam.Typically, QoS is not a subject that would keep me engaged, but this book does just that. The writing style is crisp, clean and succinct.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the benchmark of excellence
The authors absolutely produced a gem in this Cisco QoS Exam Certification Guide.Whilst I used the book primarily to pass the 642-642 QoS exam, this book can definitely serve as a reference to anyone remotely doing anything with QoS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for your desk and the 642-642 exam.
I design voice, video and data networks and this book is great for QoS implementation and designs. Easy to follow and understand. Thanks Mr Odom a cisco press book that I can really use. I passed the 642-642 exam using this book also. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars For help with EnCase in book form, start here
I decided to read and review three digital forensics books in order to gauge their strengths and weaknesses: "File System Forensic Analysis" (FSFA) by Brian Carrier, "Windows Forensics" (WF) by Chad Steel, and "EnCase Computer Forensics" (ECF) by Steve Bunting and William Wei.All three books contain the word "forensics" in the title, but they are very different. If you want authoritative and deeply technical guidance on understanding file systems, read FSFA.If you want to focus on understanding Windows from an investigator's standpoint, read WA.If you want to know more about EnCase (and are willing to tolerate or ignore information about forensics itself), read ECF.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money even if you don't use EnCase
Problems with the DVD aside, in my opinion, this book is still worth the money. If you aren't ready for the EnCE exam yet, but are planning on taking a non-vendor-specific certification exam, such as the CCE exam, you can make good use of this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Steve Bunting is the head of the police computer forensics unit in Delaware and, together with co-author William Wei, a computer crime detective in New Jersey, has written an outstanding book which should find a place on every computer forensic examiner's bookshelf - even the bookshelves of those who rarely, if ever, use EnCase as a forensic tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for a central study guide
I bought this book along with the 'Exam Cram 2 Security+.' I found All-in-One to be a great book as a central reference guide. I went though this book taking notes in another notebook - basically taking the meat out of the 600pg book for later studying. I felt that reading it was important as well, since Gregory White provides several examples and good explanations that later provide a solid base for further studying.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. White Gets it Right
I used Dr. White's All-in-One guide as my primary text for the Security+ exam, and I passed on Monday with a score of 868 out of 900 (96.4%)
3-0 out of 5 stars Book 1 of your 1 - 2 punch
I read this book all the way through last month, just for the heck of it (I'll read any security book). Some chapters seemed too lightweight for exam prep, others (such as the chapters on crypto and PKI) were excellent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrible!!
I thought the book was good - while I was reading it! When I went to use the Measure Up testing software that came with it the test only offered 97 possible questions. This seemed to be a weak attempt at randomization and none of the graphics referenced in the test questions displayed! After two weeks of emailing back and forth with the software publisher tech support I was given an update to the testing software that offered 668 possible questions which only used one graphic. My biggest complaint at that point was that I repeatedly found discrepancies between the information contained in the testing software and the book!Everything from connection speeds to distances was different between the two. Some of the testing software questions were simply terrible!Obviously this leads the student to question EVERYTHING they thought they had "learned" from the book! I also found elementary typographical errors in both the book and the testing software (e.g. throughout where it should be throughput, etc.). A local testing facility said they use the Measure Up testing software, but they dont suggest a student schedule the test until they start scoring in the %90+ range.
2-0 out of 5 stars Mistake-ridden
"Looking inside" above shows you the old version of this book, not the N10-003 version. You might not notice that this book has been updated though. It tells you that there are 72 questions on the test and that you have to score a 664 (?) to pass. In reality (I just took the test yesterday (and passed)), there are 85 questions and you only need a 554 to pass.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get's the Job done
It gets the job done, you might want to supplement with another book.I recommend this book for sure though.I'd get sybex book also. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Standard!
I used this book to deploy Oracle Application Server 10g infrastructure on Linux and UNIX. I felt that it was a good book and overall I have little ill to say about it. The examples are well written and do a good job of reinforcing what you read in the handbook. You read a little then do an example, then read some more, then add to the example and so on. You don't need any Administrative experience to use this book just a decent understanding of application design. The only criticism I could offer is that the editor should have used arrows when content is being continued on a new line for reasons of page space so that readers will know and understand (beginners can have trouble with this). It's a good book for learning Oracle Application Server 10g as a whole from the ground up and for this reason it's worth the money. It's not an overnight crash course (if that is what you are looking for).

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Job
I have taken the iAS 10 Admin I course from Oracle, and wish that I read this book prior to the class.I found it very valuable especially if you are deploying iAS 10g (9.0.4) on Linux.I highly recommend the book to iAS administrators/DBA's.

3-0 out of 5 stars Summary of the White Papers
As an administrator/implementor of these systems, there are many aspects to administering the 10gAS system. Although the authors do make reference the book intends to simplify the rather large amount of documentation, it falls short of a complete guide.

2-0 out of 5 stars I should have read the reviews on Amazon
I, too, found this book to be problematic.Arguably, one of the most challenging concepts to understand and demonstrate on the certification exams is subnet planning.
1-0 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes, the first one was me buying this book!
Do NOT buy this - you will end up spending time returning it, or worse, having it sit on your shelf because you don't have time to return it and you just wasted a ton of money on this book!
2-0 out of 5 stars Way too many mistakes!
Tech books often have mistakes. This one is unbelievable. This book feels more like learning via the gauntlet. You learn by double checking everything in this book against other sources.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Four stars if reorganized and distilled, five if updated
I first looked at Inside Network Perimeter Security, 2nd Ed (INPS:2E) for my blog, in May 2005.I decided to try reading it this week because I've been reading books on related topics.Individually, the INPS:2E authors largely know their craft.Unfortunately, the book is so poorly organized and diffused that I don't know why other reviewers rate it so highly.Furthermore, the choice of material covered and certain recommendations drag the book down.A third edition might be promising, but I recommend avoiding INPS:2E.
5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
What a book...As a relative new comer to IT security I'm digesting all I can lay my hands on. This book by SANS Institute is a rare gem. It starts easy and escalates subject by subject. This is the kind of book where I read a chapter, think about it for a week or so, then pick it up for another chapter. There's just too much for me to blast through, and gather all the knowlege. I award 5 stars and I'm not even finished yet

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book at discussing how to defend your network perimeter
This review is for the 2nd edition of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This lab companion taught me the basics of what is required for the other 3 classes of the CCNA certification.Things such as building a basic Peer-to-peer network, building a basic lan/wan, and also subnetting of class A-C networks.Great book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting familiar with the router and its commands.
This e-trainer helped me put alot of the router commands that I had only read about to work. I recommend this e-trainer for those who want to get familiar with navigating in a router and for those who need to get familiar with how the routers interact on a network.1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away!!!!!!
Stay away from this thing! Don't believe the 5 star reviews, they are most likely fake. This product is VERY buggy, lots of problems. Also, it is VERY limited in what you can do, you pretty much have to stick to the few labs, no have no room to "play" and try different configurations without running into trouble or getting errors. Not anywhere worth the $$$ they are asking. Even if it was free,it is a frustrating waste of your valuable time. If you are smart you will not buy this. I would give it 0 stars if I could!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good tool for learning to configure routers
If you don't happen to have access to a Cisco router (who does?) but do have access to a PC, this tool can simulate about 80% of router configuration prompts, and 100% of the ones that Cisco tests on.Router configuration and routing table organization is roughly half of the CCNA exam, so this can help greatly in preparing for thoses parts of the test. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Oracle reference tool
I was part of the Oracle implementation team at our company, and I have found this book to be a useful tool for myself in the year since implementation as we continue to explore new functionalities. It is also a useful tool for the application users to learn how Oracle works. In fact, I not only purchased this book for myself, but I have purchased copies for several other people in the company.I refer to it all the time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for the beginners
This book is very useful for the beginners as well those who want to brush up their knowledge on oracle applications release 11i.

5-0 out of 5 stars MS Security
Very nice book , I recommended it for all specialist in Microsoft networking, and systems.

5-0 out of 5 stars preparing for exam
Very helpful for exam 70-350 and daily tasks as IT Network security administrator.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good exam and real world based book
I went to the MOC2824B training a few months ago and didn't like it that much. If you, like me go to the official training you will find that is very much alike. But the autors included a lot of real world notes and insights for the exam on the book that you wont find on the MOC manual. Be ready to mount the practices on a virtual machine environment or real one if you have all the hardware, you will have fun anyways. Labs are filled with very usefull skill building exercises that will entertain you and teach you big time what this great product is all about. I passed the exam last week with 894/1000, and I thank not only my experience with the product but also all the good advice from this book. 5-0 out of 5 stars Test Preparation, but also a lot of Basic Material
It has taken a while to get this book published. 1230 pages of material takes a lot of time to put together. Obviously the stated aim of this book is to prepare the student to take the exam. However, even if you are not planning on taking the exam, the material covered here is a complete book on Windows Server 2003 Networking. It covers everything from defining TCP/IP to troubleshooting nearly any kind of trouble.

Of the thousands of pages read preparing for one certification for another --- this is the worst book I have come across.Frankly I am so disapointed I may well not purchase another book from this publisher.

4-0 out of 5 stars You're only choice.
The PMI approach in generalis complicated for the sake of being complicated. It reminds me of the IT guys I used to work with. Rather than just give a straight answer, they couch everything in a wordy overly descriptive soliloquy in order to seem important and smart. In the same way, the PMI took a relatively straightforward discipline such as Project Management and analyzed and 'decompressed' it to death in an attempt to seem scientific - in order to appear more impressive and legitimate. Well, if all of these corporate giants buy into it, we have no choice but to learn it and live it. And if you have to pass the PMP cert. test, this is the book you should be reading. NOTE: avoid the Dummies book like the plague.

4-0 out of 5 stars PMP Review
I have found this book and CD to be helpful in studying for the PMP exam as well as information about Project Management from a practical perspective. It is easy to read and well thought out.
5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging, user-friendly book
As a newcomer to project management, I was a skeptical about finding a book which would make the subject interesting and approachable. This book does both. Phillips's writing style is lively and engaging - he gives a sense of being with his reader every step of the way. Despite the fact that the book is more than 500 pages long, it is organized well and moves quickly. I was able to keep track of what I was learning through the summaries and key terms at the end of each chapter, along with the extensive glossary and appendix which condenses key ideas for the exam. The self-tests at the end of each chapter also allow the reader to interact with the text and practice what they've learned. After working through these, I felt well-prepared for the exam, as I found out from taking the practice version, included on the CD which comes with the book. Overall, the text is generous in what it offers for the price. It provides an effective, user-friendly approach to preparing for the PMP exam. Elizabeth Lee, Ph.D.

I found this book very helpful. Sybex books are straight to the point. I prefer Sybex Study Guides over Microsoft Press.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very bad book
This book doesn't cost its money.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book worked for me
I used this book, and one other, to take and pass the Oracle Certified Professional exam (OCP).The other book I used was Oracle Press' PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide, which focuses just on the second exam. This book covers all of the exams, but the second exam is especially difficult, and a friend recommended that one for that exam specifically.2-0 out of 5 stars Too basic
Good book for a beginner (this is an excellent intro to SQL and PL/SQL), but not enough depth for the exams. It covers all the necessary areas, but barely skims the surface on numerous important topics.I recommend the Sybex book (even though it's a little dry). For each test, I'd start with this book and then move on to another text; that should be all you need to pass the exams.Be sure to PRACTICE; that's by far the most important element of success. ...
