4-0 out of 5 stars A+ Certification Concepts and Practices (stand-alone)
This is an Instructional Design marvel... The text is oversize, crammed with excellent and superior illustrations of more than 50 diagrams and screenshots per chapter. This is integrated into an electronic study guide. The electronic book is exactly the same material as your print book so you can take it to work or along on a business trip too. The study guide includes questions for review and an adaptive test simulating a certification exam. The electronic test, study guide and images use only 12MB in nicely organized fashion that I find useful going beyond self-learning. I'll replace our Mike Myers book in our training programs with this one. The only shortcoming I can report is that there isn't any video with the course. I used Mike Myers for our vocational training because of his great book that is integrated with a lab manual and video series. This is as good and put together the two are a marvel. 3-0 out of 5 stars A+Certification : Conceps and Practice review
This book is used by my current college computer maintance class.Thebook itself is very informal, but the software that is attached cost moneyto activate.Of cource at our college, we have software already on thecomputer, but the company that made this book should not give a free cdwhen you must pay to look at the information on the cd.I gave this bookthree stars because the information in the book is excellent. The book andpractice guide have very good information dealing with passing a+certification, and are good resources when dealing with upgrading, or evenjust building a brand new computer out of parts.I am a computerprogrammer, and most of the programming books along with a+ certificationbooks give a freeware version of the program. So, if you are not up forspending even more money on this book and software, then this is not thebook for you. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Proof-reading needed
This book apparently underwent no proof-reading. Careless and obvious mistakes abound. The publisher's errata page is of little use although the book has been published for nearly two years. Considering that this is a book you rely on to pass an exam, this is close to irresponsible.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very complete coverage

It is worth buying this set to use for the Oracle 9i track OCP exams.

The book is found very useful. The structure and scope is easily agreeable to the exam syllabus.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not good as a boxed set - checkout 007219524X instead
While the first two volumes covered the testing material fairly well, the last two volumes (Fundamentals II & Performance Tuning) compare very poorly to their counterparts published by Oracle Press.I have bought other Sybex study guides, and they have been nothing but good to me.This "kit" comes up a little short. If you must absolutely buy a boxed set for the cost savings, I would recommend Oracle Press's set ISBN 007219524X also available at Amazon.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to become certified or just wants learn how to use Excel. The book is easy to read and the step by step exercises make learning new skills effortless. With all the material covered, you are sure to find what you are looking for. Showing multiple ways to do one thing was also a big plus, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has the need to learn Excel.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than an MOS guide
Although the book is a study guide for MOS, you don't have to be taking that exam(s) to benefit from this book. If you are intimidated by spreadsheets, and want to get started with a text book equivalent of your school books, this book fits the requirement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly The Level I Needed
When I saw this book on the shelf I almost passed it by. The blurb on the back cover talks a lot about this being a study guide to pass the Microsoft Office Specialist test. I wasn't interested in taking such a test, I just needed to know more about Excel for a project that I had to do. But I picked it up to look over and was surprised that it contained exactly what I wanted to know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for just before the test.
CCIE Routing and Switching Flash Cards
3-0 out of 5 stars A small start...
This book barely scratches the surface of the preparation required for the CCIE R&S written. The test has a considerable amount of minutia, some of which isn't even covered in the Cisco documentation. There are a number of topics on the test that not only aren't discussed in depth in this book, but actually aren't discussed at all. And of course it will in no way prepare you for the questions where you know the answer, but its not on the list (Cisco is notorious for that).

1-0 out of 5 stars Not suoitable for sun solaris 10 security exam
Took sun solaris 10 security exam today, the exam is very heavy on containers (Global vs non global, how to configure BART inglobal environment and will it flow down to non global), how to perform patching in global and non global environment, what is easiest way to setup 20 containers inside the same machine, definitions of key terms in Kerberos, what does kerberos each component do (drag and drop) and SFM and ipsec and ip filters syntax to block dns lookup. How to update the system automatically and what commands to use for automatic updating choose all correct commands . The textbook only covers 30% of the solaris 10 test only.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unclear, unfocussed and hard to use
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I find this book quite useless. I am a system administrator with more than 8 years experience on the Sun platform.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good study guide but you still need hands on experience
This is a very good study guide for the Sun Certified Security Administrator for Solaris Certification. However you will also need and should have some hand on experience with the OS. Don't worry though you can download the OS free at Sun for both SPARC and Intel platforms.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for review
I worked with PC's for 10 years before reading this book.I already knew about half of the information in this book, but it helped confirm what I already knew and fill in the gaps for theother half.I didn't order this book from Amazon.com, I bought it off the shelf from Fry's Electronics. After looking at the other books they had on the shelf, this one seemed the most straightforward.Unlike other books written by Microsoft, I still have this one in my reference library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book as a supplement..
I've looked at a dozen A+ certification books along with reading the reviews about them. Every one of them seems to get mixed reviews. They run the gauntlet from being the best book on the subject to being the worse. I bought the "All in 1 guide to A+ certification" by Mike Meyers, which while it has some flaws, seems to be fairly thorough. Of course, I haven't taken the A+ exams yet, so I could be WAY off.4-0 out of 5 stars I passed hardware part of A+!!!!!!!!!!!
The intent of this book is try and give the absolute 'bare bones' minimum information you need to just pass in the easiest format.- It does that. I ended up with a 810 out of 900(pass is 510), and the 1 other book I used I did not receive until 2 days before I wrote the exam. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not help me pass the certification test
I have been writing Oracle SQL for 5 years improving the efficiency of the web application our company maintains and decided to become officialy certified.I bought this book, learned some new terminology and Oracle skills.I aced the practice tests that came with the book. However, the official Oracle exam is much more difficult than the book's practice tests.I ended up buying some of Oracle's official practice tests.Of course, they may be scams as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good exam reference
This is the only book I used to prepare for the OCP 1Z0-007 exam. The Oracle published exam objectives were covered and the sample test questions on CD were good.Other than one or two SQL syntax surprises, I had no problems with the exam. This book may not be adequate if you are unfamiliar with databases, SQL, and programming as there is not alot of instructional material here.Good luck.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough to pass exam
This book is an update from the release 8i. Looks like the author did not take the time to properly update material, the functions chapter have missing lots of the new functions in 9i, same goes for MERGE and INSERT INTO (SELECT FROM ...) statements.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Intro to IP Multicast
I come from a routing shop - never having a customer need for Multicast. This book brought me up to speed very quickly on the both the beauty and ease of Multicast. As a tool for my CCIE studies, I felt the first 200 pages were of immense value at helping my studies.I felt Chapter 5 (on DVMRP) was not nearly as valuable as Chapters 6 and 7 (on PIM-DM and PIM-SM).
4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview
Multicast has for several years been used in LAN environments to easily exchange information among users, especially in educational and academic research environments. The advent of audio and video conferencing has increased its use in these environments, and it is now making its presence known in WAN and Internet environments. This book gives an overview of the how to implement IP multicast on Cisco devices, and does a good job in that regard. Readers with a general knowledge of networks, even those who have not administered Cisco devices explicitly, can gain much from the book. This reviewer was not interested in the actual implementation of Cisco multicast networks, which is covered in Part 3 of the book, and so this review will concentrate on the other three parts of the book. These parts are mostly descriptive, but they do discuss some of the performance issues involved with the deployment of IP multicast, although nowhere in the book are test cases discussed, even though their inclusion would have been extremely helpful. Multicasting by itself is not a complicated phenomena to understand and use, but when it is deployed over Layer 2 or when coupled with QoS some interesting issues can arise. This reviewer was mostly interested in traffic engineering in multicast environments, and the author spends an entire chapter on this topic.
5-0 out of 5 stars May well be the best multicasting book available
Multicasting is truly a technology solution in search of a problem. Excepting highly specialized conferencing applications (a few of which are mentioned here) it is difficult to see how multicasting can be a money-making service for carriers and providers, and the protocols have yet to really penetrate to wide deployment. That said, knowledge of this separate realm of IP networking is a must for any professional in the telecom space. Read more

Building Storage Networks is a very complete reference into storage. This book covers it all. If you know nothing about storage, by the time you get through the 590 pages you will have a complete knowledge of storage. 3-0 out of 5 stars SAN and NAS Beginnings
Nicely written material for the beginner to the SAN and NAS areas, but ultimately falls short of the depth that I was looking for in understanding SAN and NAS technologies.Covers the networking, protocols, and basic SAN and NAS architectures well.If you have a fairly good idea of the SAN and NAS solutions available today, than this book doesn't provide anything you haven't already been exposed. If your looking for a book that explains how and where SAN and NAS solutions might fit into your organization, than this is the book for you. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not enough
This book is a good, general introduction to the 70-229 exam concepts - but I had to couple it with the Transcender practice exam before I felt comfortable taking the exam. The exam topics are so broad that the book doesn't do enough to emphasize when to use what.It also skips some important topics (sp_cursoropen) and its practice tests include Full Text Searches which the book notes are unlikely to be on the exam.To the editors: A 'databases' index entry with three pages of sub-entries is redundant in a book about databases.I love the Exam Cram series, but this was the poorest book of the bunch. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Effective means to get MCSA, when used with other materials
I bought these books in April 2003 along with online study guides to get my MCSA:4-0 out of 5 stars Some imporvements, still a little more work needed.
Since beginning my quest for the MCSE or MCSA I have been searching for the self paced study guide that will make it easier for me to learn without breaking the bank. Back in April I looked at the initial release of this package, I found it to have several useful features and there were some updates needed.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guides!!!
I used this set of study guides to study for my MCSA and easily passed the exams averaging 90% in each exam. I read each guide thorougly and played alot with the Windows 2000 OS to get my grades. The study guides were very indepth in its coverage of each exam and the testing engines were very similar to what i saw in the real exam. The books came with alot of detail plus great summary info on each exam objective...unlike other study guides the Microsoft Press has put heavy emphasis on practical use of the OS to study for the exam...if you are looking for an exam cram style guide that will summarise everything for the test then these books are not for you...BUT if you are after something that will force you to do alot of hands on excercises plus give you indepth coverage then get these study guides. I'll recommend these if you want to really learn about windows 2000 not memorise something quick to pass the test. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for the CCNA exam
The days of passing the CCNA exam using just a single exam preparation guide are over. The new improved CCNA exam requires a certain level of understanding and confidence running router/switch commands from the command line interface. Exam questions include multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple answers, drag and drop, fill in the blanks, testlets, simlets and simulations. The simulation exams are usually configuration tasks of some sort.
4-0 out of 5 stars An essential resource for your CCNA exam preparation!

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable resource for the CCIE R&S lab
CiscoPress's "CCIE Practical Studies - Volume II" by Solie and Lynch does a good job at preparing CCIE Routing & Switching candidates for the CCIE Lab.While this book picks up where Volume 1 left off, this volume does a much better job at both documenting and displaying some of the more advanced requirements of the lab.It is also important to note that this book should not be used to first introduce yourself to a topic. The book requires you to be familiar with the topics discussed.
4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price of admission!
I am a multiple CCIE looking for all around knowledge of subjects, including the multiple topics listed in this book.Having read the first volume in the series, I wanted to learn the tips and tricks of the authors.I can honestly say that4-0 out of 5 stars CCIE Practical Studies, Volume II sets good example
CCIE Practical Studies Volume II is the latest in the CCIE Practical Studies series. This book is not just intended for individuals who have completed the CCIE written test, but for anyone who has advanced knowledge of networking theory. The book assumes you already have an understanding of routing protocols, WAN technologies, and LAN switching. Each chapter includes a section on theory but primarily focuses on the configuration aspect ending with several lab scenarios. CCIE Practical Studies Volume II includes five complete lab scenarios including the solutions on CD-ROM. These five lab scenarios are in addition to the regular labs at the end of each chapter. This book will especially appeal to those working towards their CCNP or CCIE, but also for anyone who is looking for extensive configuration examples of ethernet switching (3550), network access and propagation control, multicast routing, QOS and performance management, and advanced BGP configuration.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
The book is very helpful for IT professionals seeking a job. Different positions in the IT field were discussed along with potential questions you might get asked during an interview. The author also provides advices that are critical to job hunting. I highly recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Much Psychology, Not Enough Q&A
I thought this book would be filled with technical questions and answers to review before a technical interview. Was I ever wrong. Out of 6 parts (and part 6 is all appendices) the first four have no interview questions. They have to do with resume writing, networking, increasing your confidence, making a great first impression etc. etc. That leaves one part for technical questions and answers. Part 5 is what I thought I was paying for and consists of one chapter totaling just over 150 pages. Here's a sample question under the job category of Database Adminstrator: "What is a trigger? What is the most complex trigger you have written?" Answer: "A trigger is a common database element and you should be prepared to discuss how you've used this element in the past- for instance, to implement business rules. Try to be as specific as you can in your examples of the types of triggers you've created." That's the whole Q&A on triggers. Definitely not enough detail for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference
This is the best reference I've seen for IT interviews.I've seen many of these questions at interviews and at one it appeared they had pulled questions from the book. The technology specific questions are excellent. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A well written leaning tool that needs updating
Positives: It's written in an easy-to-read style that won't have you sleeping (too quickly!) It's got summary "Exam watch" blocks every few pages to summarize what you should know. It's got videos on a CD (I know, don't roll your eyes yet) that are actually helpful. Most videos that come with computer training books that I've seen are a joke. These are different: you hear the author talking while you see the actual router / switch screen while he types IOS commands and tells you what's going on.This is a GREAT intermediate step between reading about IOS commands and trying them yourself on a device or simulator. These alone are worth the price of the book. The labs provided go well with the Boson NetSim LE simulation software provided.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!! The lights are on!!
I bought this book after a frustrating day spent trying to learn subnetting.I started with that subject, and the lights in my mind went on within 10 minutes of reading and working out the examples.I actually understood subnetting.Amazing! From my brief encounter with this book, I have to agree with other reviewers. This book is excellent. The explanations are thorough, yet easy to follow. The examples are crystal clear. The layout of the self-test at the end of the chapter helps you know exactly where to go back to review. The Two-Minute Drill at the end of the chapter is way better than the summaries provided in other books.I am happy I bought this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY one-stop CCNA text period
I wish I had known of this book when I was studying for my CCNA exam. Do not be fooled into thinking that the Cisco Press books adequately cover all exam topics; they DON'T. This is the ONLY text out of the four that I've read [Exam Cram, Cisco Press Exam Certification, Cisco Press Network Academy, and this one] that covers ALL exam topics:

3-0 out of 5 stars This could only be used as additional text
This book nicely presents and explains most of comptia's security+ objectives but is unable to provide sufficient depth required in the topics to pass the test. This book can only be used as an addition to your main preparation material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wealth of Security Information
This book covers all aspects of security and the blueprint that CompTIA has posted on their website. If you are in need of a study or referecne guide this is the book for you!!Good luck to all the people who are striving to attain the CompTIA Security+ Certification.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clear, but limited basic overview.
The Microsoft Press Security+ Certification Training Kit is a study guide for the CompTIA Security+ exam. This book is a better aid for security novices than other Security+ certification books like the one from Syngress (ISBN: 1-931836-72-8).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended if you are new to PL/SQL
The book is good and is recommended for someone new to PL/SQL. For someone who is already familiar to PL/SQL, you can save money by going through the Oracle Online Manual to read about the new features of PL/SQL in Oracle 9i. Since I already had a previous version (Oracle 8) of this book, I consider buying this book as waste of money. But if you are just getting into the world of oracle and you want to learn PL/SQL, this book is for you. One nice thing about the book is it comes with a CD that has some trial version of some development environments. Nice to explore those.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very helpful book to pass the exam.
This is, indeed, a great book to pass this exam(1Z0-147). Actually, there is no prescribed book(as of now!!), for this exam. This book fairly covers most of the topics that are specified in the official exam syllabus. However, topics on Large objects are not covered in this book extensively. I suggest to search on google for LOBS(This is how i got some notes on LOBS). This book is good to study functions, procedures, packages, triggers, and some DBMS packages, but it doesn't cover LOBS, managing dependencies. Overall, I can give 4 stars to this book, as it helped me to pass the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better IT books that I have seen
This is a well written, fast reading book that provides the reader with the information needed but not with the fluff that we do not need.I used this book to pass the Oracle Certification Exan 1Z0-147 : Oracle9i: Program with PL/SQL.If you own this book and 'Oracle PL/SQL' by Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl (published by O'reily), you probably have what you need (for understanding PL/SQL) ... enjoy ...
