5-0 out of 5 stars An architect's treasure
This book has outstanding breadth of information for system architecture. Some details are quite basic, while others are quite indepth. Overall though, what's most important is that the book is very well written and serves its purpose well. It has many excellent strategies, along with a comprehensive feature list of most J2EE projects.
5-0 out of 5 stars Concepts applicable in J2EE as well as .NET
I develop applications using J2EE and .NET. I found that mostconcepts found in this book are equally applicable to the .NET arena as well. Good work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical for beginners
I'm a Junior J2EE Technical Architect and I just finish reading your book. It's really interesting and instructive. It helps me a lot on my project planning. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated beyond usefulness.
Be advised:this book may have been relevant a couple years ago, but not anymore.ISACA has updated and slightly reorganized the exam.I believe this book actually interferred with my prep. The ISACA study guides and applicable experience are plenty to pass this exam (worked for me).Good luck.

3-0 out of 5 stars CISSP or CISM?
I bought this book because there is no other book available (prep guide) that covers the CISM.As I read through the book there is an explicit sentence that reads "to better prepare you for the CISSP exam"; which test is this preg guide for?If you're going to cut and paste from similar works you've done in the past at least do the readers a favor and use the find/replace all function :).Overall it was a good read and I'll keep it around as a reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginner....Not for advanced
This book is truely for beginners who have no clue of signal Integrity. He starts this book with stuff like Ohm's law and how capacitors and inductors work which most people learn in high school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the most readable book you'll find on this
Brook's book is exceptional in the clarity of the writing, esp. in explaining key concepts that most engineers are fuzzy on.This book is great at giving engineers an intuitive feel for basic electromagnetics and how it relates to signal integrity and emi.4-0 out of 5 stars A chasm has been bridged...
As an educator, lecturer and practicing designer I am given many books to read and make comment on. I find very few books that are able to bridge the chasm between the needs of a beginner learning about signal integrity and the needs of a professional desperate to solve design problems. This book is an excellent primer and reference for understanding the interrelationship between the board layout and the signal integrity problem. This book details design solutions to classic signal integrity problems and educates the novice in understanding the reasoning behind the solutions. There is a lot of nonsense being written about signal integrity and few people have the resources to filter out the chaff from hay. This book proves every principle presented with tested board layouts, demonstrated engineering principles, or documented laboratory results. Some people can see the world in formulas and some see the world pictorially. This book is rich in both forms of expressionism and its presentation will not exasperate the PCB designer who sees the world visually, or frustrate the engineer seeking equations for design representation. This book has been added to the required reading list for our PCB layout designers and product development engineering teams. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book to get you up to speed in no time!
At first, I was a little apprehensive about the book - I was thinking it was a repackaged 'Teach Yourself in 5 seconds a day' kind of thing where you end up flying throughout through the content without really learning anything. I needed to actually learn this topic and I needed to do it quickly - I bought this book on a Monday and had a MAJOR project for my Database Systems class due Friday night at midnight.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book delivers exactly what it promises
As a beginner in the PHP & MySQL world, this book provided everything I needed to go from nothing to a fully functioning dynamic site within days.Great examples, and most importantly he covers security concerns as well as best-practices for keeping everything running smooth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Learning PHP
As a whole, the Visual Quickstart and QuickPro guides are a great series, and this title - now in its second edition - is no exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOKING WITH C#!!
Are you an experienced C# or .NET developer? If you are, then this book is for you! Authors Jay Hilyard and Stephen Teilhet, have done an outstanding job of writing a second edition of a book that was put together based on programming problems that the authors ran into when they were first learning C# as well as during their continued use of it.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved my life - multiple times!
I actually bought the first edition of the book and I loved it so much that I am getting the second edition. There were several times that I needed a quick tip or trick on how to solve a problem and I found the answer here.Excellent use of your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST
This is the only book that even mentions "closures". I have all the C# 2005 books by "Troelsen", Wrox book, Microsoft's "Visual C# The Language", etc. and none of them talk about "closures".

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly perfect, and surely the best prepguidethere is available
I've used two preparation guides, this one and the one from Sybex. MSPress is definitely the best of these two books. Covers it all, the sybex version is too superficial and just does not cover it all, it actually lacks some important material.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Comprehensive Book Available but not without faults
I used this book as a primary study guide for the 2003 upgrade exams and although it doesn't cover all the material, it is an excellent book and in my humble opinion the single best source of prepartion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This book covers the essentials skills to upgrade to your certification to Windows Server 2003.However, it does cover many topics that you already knew from your Windows 2000 experience, which sometimes are topics you don't want to read about because for the most part, you expected to read only about the improvements and changes from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003.In spite of this, it is a GREAT source of information for people with little experience with Windows 2000. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft is great with software but not with documentation
I ordered this book as well as Special Addition Using Ms FP 2003The only FP2003 book you'll ever need. This is the book to get!!The microsoft book does not really do a good job of fully explaining the topic. To me it was very confusing. The other book I just mentioned is 3 times as thick and goes from very basic to very advanced. So as you grow the book will be there for all the information.I will be returning this book and keeping the Special Addition.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 books on learning FrontPage 2003

5-0 out of 5 stars What they mean by "Art"
I think some readers may be confused by the title, "The Art of Maya."This is not a coffe tale book showing some art made by Maya users. The title is a play on Sun Tzu's book, "The Art of War."That is exactly what this book is, it is a soup to nuts explaination of the "art" of using Maya.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
I have seen difficulty in keeping Business Requirements at a high level, enough to determine big picture strategies.Typically, the analysts jump in with an existing system in mind, over analyze, and end up with a mountain of information that is inter-twined with complexities and dependencies.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for developers and their managers
User stories are general statements of what the final software product is supposed to do. They are also supposed to be short, in general if they cannot be written on a 3 x 5 card, they are considered too complex. For example, the major project done at the end of the book deals with an online company that sells books about sailing. Some of the user stories for this project are as follows:
4-0 out of 5 stars Accomplish your users' real needs, not their "requirements"
This book is a great source of down-to-earth practice on the slippery terrain of "user specs becoming software". By using user stories appropriately, Mike Cohn explains how to have real customer involvement without needing to annoy them. Just get enough time from them to be sure (and let THEM be sure) about what you're building, but not as much as distracting them from their real work.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best
This is a very good book, the codes are clear and
5-0 out of 5 stars From the Author:
This book was developed during many years of teaching scientific programming to engineers and scientists in both electrical engineering and physics courses.About 1/3 of the text is accessible to beginning programmers even at a high-school level, while the last part of the book can serve as a second-term undergraduate scientific programming course or as a reference text. While the title indicates that a major focus of the text is computational physics, the book contains problems and examples from numerous scientific and engineering disciplines and can be employed across a wide variety of course offerings.
4-0 out of 5 stars not as abstract as a pure physics text
This book can serve several audiences. It teaches both computational physics and the use of C++ in writing object oriented code. Clearly, if you are already know one of these topics, but not the other, then the book is a natural fit. You can concentrate on what is essentially half the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars pretty poor book
very poorly laid out and confusing presaentation of both forms and reports.some fairly good detailed examples (if you can find them) but the overall presentation is chaotic.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great for forms, not so much for reports
This is a solid reference book for those doing primarily Forms development, but it lacks quite a little in the Reports department. If you're buying it for Reports development, as I did, you'll be disappointed.I have yet to find a very good Reports reference. That said, this is probably the best one out there. The book contains something like 70% - 30% Forms info to Reports info (and that may be a little generous). It does have a few good examples and is an easy read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook
As my headline suggests, this book is more suitable for the classroom environment than for the professional systems analyst or systems developer.
5-0 out of 5 stars aggreed there is no OOA
OOA is some "super magic" that uml people found it for commercial reasons. As Mr.Hay mentions there is no OOA.there is only "analysis" of the bussiness.
4-0 out of 5 stars It will broaden your horizons, but it is not a cookbook.
_Requirements Analysis_ is just the opposite of a book like Craig Larman's _Applying UML and Patterns_ or Ed Yourdon's _Modern Structured Analysis_.Both of those books--in fact, most books on analysis--present a single methodology and a single set of tools and notations, then walk you through the steps of the analysis process according to DeMarco or according to Jacobson or whatever.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you only have one book on testing and QA this is it!
I have used the 1st edition for years as my primary Test & QA reference.Being a fan of Dr. Demming, this book supports his teaching.Mr. Lewis's book provides many pracical examples and templates for the QA practitioner, be they a seasoned pro or someone just thrown into Testing for the first time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Most complete source of SW quality info in one place
This book represents the most complete and comprehensive approach to total quality of any I've read on either software testing or software quality assurance.5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect balance of information and techniqies
You'd have to download over a gigabyte of internet resources, then cross-reference them to come anywhere close to having a resource as valuable as this book.Lewis has taken proven techniques spanning both software testing and SQA, wrapped them into a quality process based on the PDCA model and places all of the information you need to master testing and SQA between the covers of this outstanding book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rethinking Cookbooks
Normally, I'm not a big fan of cookbooks, I find them full of little patterns and quick solutions, but I don't have any desire to read them cover to cover to improve my design and implementation skills. The book Python Cookbook, 2nd Edition is quite different.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Programming Companion
I had the opportunity to skim through this book before I purchased it and found that it had several very practical, usable and understandable examples ("recipes"). It is a simple book that you can use as a reference and to learn how the "pros" create simple and elegant python code.

4-0 out of 5 stars More than a cookbook
String handling, money, time, dates. Email, network sockets, cgi, xml. The staples of the cookbook, and Python Cookbook certainly has these. However, interspersed throughout are chapters that seem to have come from at least one other completely different book, a more discursive rumination on Python programming in general. Each chapter begins with a mini essay from a Python luminary, and the discussion of each recipe is fairly extensive.

Editorial Review

The second edition of this well-known and highly regarded text can be used as the basis for a one- or two-semester undergraduate course in signals and linear systems theory and applications. Topics include basic signals and systems concepts, linear time-invariant (LTI) systems, Fourier representations of continuous-time and discrete-time signals, the CT and DT Fourier transforms, and time- and frequency-domain analysis methods. The author emphasizes applications of the theory through numerous examples in filtering, sampling, communications, and feedback. The parallel development of continuous-time and discrete-time frequency domain methods allows the reader to apply insights and intuition across the two domains. It also facilitates a deeper understanding of the material by bringing into focus the similarities and differences between the two domains. The text also includes introductory chapters on communication systems and control theory. This book assumes that you have a background in calculus as well as exposure to complex numbers and elementary differential equations. Because of its thoroughness and unhurried pace, this text is highly recommended for students and those interested in self-study. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written
It is probably the best book on the subject which I have had. It was the reference for my undergraduate signals and systems course. It is both good as a text book and a reference. Very well written! explains the concepts very clearly and has a lot of good examples and end of chapter problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good introduction to signals and systems
As a non EE undergraduate, I needed a book to prepare my for the rigors of an MSC degree in DSP which builds heavily on basic foundations such as Fourier, Laplace and Z transforms. I spent 3 months reading the book (while working) before starting the MSc and I found that it was exactly what I needed. There are plenty of examples, which for me are a vital ingredient in any book that touches this area--there is no way to learn without examples and this book excels at them.
3-0 out of 5 stars Best example for "Popular opinion also may go wrong"
It is a popular book in the Signal Processing Arena. But it is still questionable if it is a better if not the best book around. This book is a comprehensive one, no doubt. But it is more wordy and becomes stereotypic after a point. It tests the reader's patience if he is not informed about the above fact. Some students even start developing hatred towards DSP courtesy: its way of presentation. Though many students might rate this book as one of the classics in DSP, the statement is arguable. It is high time this book undergoes major revision and the presentation is made crisp and more user friendly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Novices
An encyclopedia of helpful information but, this will not be helpful to a novice trying to learn the program for the first time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very comphrensive book - CDROM has some problems
The Simulations folder on the CDROM included with the book containssome broken links, probably due to a production problem and it is my understanding that this will soon be corrected.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dreamweaver 8 Bible
I would highly recommend this new release on Dreamweaver 8

4-0 out of 5 stars Some technical aspects are missing
While whole book has enough details on plugins UI part, there is no information on third-party integration and plugin class loading issue is not covered enough (authors offer you to write your own jar class loader). Also missed a sample on PreferenceManager usage.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I wanted...
I suppose this is more of a praise of Eclipse plug-in architecture and available documentation than a review of the book per se, but I did not get from Eclipse: Building Commercial-Quality Plug-ins anything I could not by scanning online docs and playing with Eclipse myself. I was up and running with my plug-in project in a very short time without opening this book, 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on Eclipse 3.1/3.2 with lots of tips and detailed diagrams
I read the first edition two years ago and it was the best book at the time on Eclipse 3.0. I learned so much from the first edition, that I got the second edition for Eclipse 3.1 and 3.2 as soon as it was available. I was pleased to see that the authors had completely updated the book to cover the latest versions of Eclipse. All of the negative comments that I see appear to be about the first edition (which is for Eclipse 3.0 and is now out of date) rather than the newer second edition. That really is unfortunate as there is no better book on Eclipse plugin development available. Period.

5-0 out of 5 stars They didn't subtitle it "Lightning-Fast Web Development" by mistake
I love books like this -- get in, get out, get on with it. I'm incredibly busy these days. (Who isn't?) Gone are the days where I can afford to hunker down with a 1,000 page tome, and quite frankly I just don't want to anymore. I place real value in brevity in computer books. This isn't Shakespeare. This is business. Let's get on with it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Where is the rest of the book?
There are likely to be any number of reviews on this book mentioning these two points:
3-0 out of 5 stars In two minds...
I'm in two minds about this book, but one thing I know for sure; I wish that this book was around when I started off on my Rails journey, minus the mistakes and the bad representation though!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's the "Concepts" Book
This book does a good job in keeping up with the Title, "OS Concepts". I won't go in detail justifying that, as it's already been done by several before me.
4-0 out of 5 stars Accessible treatment of complex topics
This book does a great job of presenting all details of operating system design and operation. When appropriate, the authors point out how Linux, Solaris or Windows implements a given topic. This is valuable for software developers who work on these platform and need to understand how the scheduler is going to react if you spawn new threads/processes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fundamentals of OS Book
Good book for learning OS principles for undergrad and lower grad students. I recommend this for hose wanting an introduction to OS Internals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book on 80x86 Assembler
Great book to learn the basics of 16 bit and 32 bit Assembler coding using the 80x86 architecture.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on the subject
It's a well organized and clearly written book. I am reading the 4th edition and it's not about DOS anymore. The previous reviews on earlier editions should be removed. Another very nice thing of this book is it has a lot of exercises. Each section has about 10 small quizes, and each chapter has several bigger projects for you to practice. These are essential to learn a computer language.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding coverage of a vital computer foundation...
Mr. Irvine's book is an outstanding introduction into the x86 microprocessor family and beyond. This is a great text for use in undergraduate CS classes or for any Joe who wants to learn to bust bits on bare metal. While some coverage may seem outdated (ala the days of DOS), only the initiated know that programming a computer on the lowest level possible is the ULTIMATE form of control.
