5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful for any journalist on camera
This book is VERY helpful to those wishing to be on TV. I had the opportunity to take a Broadcast Voice class with Michelle McCoy and it was absolutly the best thing I have ever been to. If you ever get a chance to meet her take the opportunity. She provides a wealth of knowledge for a variety of topics in broadcasting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Detailed "how to" for appearing on TV and the 'Net
"Sound and Look Professional" provides the on-camera television novice with myriad tips on looking and sound one's best when appearing on a medium that often offers little feedback in terms of audience. The authors give sound (literally) advice for the beginning reporter, host, and guest, running the gamut from how to sound good to how to (and very important for a visual medium) look good. The reader learns about the various positions in the television studio, how to read cues on the set, and very detailed information on the presentation of the self in terms of make-up, clothing, and hairstyle. These all contribute to the credibility of anyone appearing on TV.Also provided are some scripts from "real life" TV news stories and commercials, and helpful ideas about constructing the resume for careers in the broadcast industry.Especially notable is the authors' point that just as important, if not more, for credibility than appearance is the voice, the on-camera talent's true "tool" for effective presentation. This book, written by industry insiders, aims to give the best advice to those wishing to enhance credibility. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power.
Yes this book makes us confront our own rationilaztions and justifactions for not engaging in safe sex, or engaging in promiscious sex with strangers. The facts are facts, regardless of what you want to believe, and Dr. Goldstone lays all the cards on the table and lets y ou make the decisions from there. He is a gay doctor, so these same issues which he talks about are physical conditions that he himself has to avoid inh is own personal life. I bought this book for my own edification and plan on donating it to my Universitiy's GLBT student services library so others can have insight into the heatlth risks associated with gay sex. The book made me take my own sexual practices into perspective, both past and future, and allowed me to make more intellgient decisions on how to proceed. He make sit very clear that HIV/AIDS is not the only STD out there that can have a very damaging effect, and he also discusses many other health issues and illnesses that can affect men. He also discusses sex, and how to use lubricants and condoms and how to position yourself for penetration, so this is a great device for the inexperienced young men trying their sexuality out for the first time. Dr. Goldstone is 100% pro gay, he is gay himself, but that does not mean we can deny the truth of our biological bodies and the physical conditions that can come upon them. Read this book with a grain of salt, and use it to better protect yourself, thats what it's intention is for. He also adds vignettes to the chapters previous to you reading them to give you a perspective of where he is coming from, and also has a great sense of humor, although it is a bit corny. I wish more MDs would realize we need some humor in order to rest our minds during a physical examination. He also makes it very clear that you should be completely upfront with your physician about being gay and the sexual acts you perform, otherwise most straight physicians in particular could easily over look your symptoms as being something else entirely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent lessons!!
As a recently out of the closet person I was full of questions and doubts about gay sex. This book truly gave me all the answers I needed. This society is so concerned with AIDS that we forget about other sexually transmitted deseases. This book not only provides illustrations of all posible deseases out there but it also provides valuable information as to how to spot these ailments, their symptons and posible cures and treatments.I truly feel more prepare.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and fun
All things considered, I expected this to be a somewhat dull read, a little too technical because it was penned by an MD.I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only is this book very informative and up to date, but it's written in a hugely entertaining and, yes, erotic, style.Sex manuals are very helpful when you have a date, but sometimes they can also be good company on those lonely nights when you don't have a man. This book is one of the best gay sex manauls available. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Advertising on the internet deserves credibility
All advertising professionals working in agencies, media and clients should read this extraordinary book and understand what can be really done with this new media, instead of selling myths that are in part responsible for the downfall of many dot.coms and the global fall in confidence from investors.

3-0 out of 5 stars ? A Question- When will the next edition be available?
PLEASE DO NOT POST AS A REVIEW! Just to be clear, this is not a review.5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen on this subject.
Granted, there are not a great many books on this subject, but this isdefinitely the one to read.It gives great insight on the benefits andpitfalls of advertising on this new medium. It does an excellent job ofcomparing the internet to other advertising options and makes a good casefor which traditional advertising concepts apply here, and which do not.Iam an advertising and media buyer working exclusively with interactiveappliances and I found this book immensely informative.Read it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating ideas about history and the future

5-0 out of 5 stars Bennett triumphs
Despite the naysayers, Bennett has been proven right by the recent behaviour of the Anglosphere in two major events. First in the Iraq war most of the Anglosphere banded together to get rid of a vicious genocidal tyrant, while more recent events showed how the Anglosphere could band together to help a region in dire need of aide. Much like Clash of Civilisations, Bennett has written a book that will be refered in positive terms for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Way to Look at Canada and the World
Any serious discussion of the central role of English traditions in Canada is fraught with twin perils: mindless claims of racism/imperialism and founding-nation chauvinism. The Anglosphere Challenge is something very different. It's an exciting exploration of a new way to look a modern global culture and its Canadian flavour, keeping both perils at bay. Leading off with a chapter on the dynamic and converging nature of modern technology (cf. Vernor Vinge's The Singularity), the author makes the case that cultural dynamism and flexibility will be at a premium in the 21st century. His claim for the future pre-eminence of the common law countries (irrespective of their citizens' personal origins) is based on the Anglosphere's history of adapting successfully (and first) to technological and political change.Read more

Full of practical advice for starting an eBay consignment business. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great mid-level eBay Book!!
Mr. Mansfield wastes no time getting to the nuts and bolts of starting an eBay business. You won't get a lot of help starting your first eBay account here!! This is good because a lot of people are graduating from cleaning out their closets and looking for a steady income from eBay. He systematically goes through the entire process from the setup of your business to making a business plan and he spends a good deal of time on the numbers (which is the first book I've read that actually discussed numbers.) This was very helpful in focusing my energy in starting a new eBay business. Check out how I'm doing at lemonheadsattic.com. Maybe when I'm a millionaire, I'll owe it all to Mr. Mansfield's book!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Needs updating
Most of the advice from this book is still relevant, generate a high volume site that is 'sticky' for users and pick appropriate affiliate schemes. It does provide useful advice e.g. to utilize your existing web sites and links to help build volume.
5-0 out of 5 stars Overrated Content....
I have read this book into the morning light...Such content is very useful to anyone planning or in the associate/affiliate biz!3-0 out of 5 stars Good for newcomers to affiliate marketing
This book is quite clearly laid out and easy to understand. It covers quite a range of topics. It is very good for those that don't know what affiliate marketing is. It will also give you some helpfull hints to get you onto the right track.I think the most usefull part is the chapter where it discusses the top 100 affiliate programs. That should give you an idea of what works and what doesn't. Unfortunately there are some areas where I felt the author could have given more in depth knowledge. I also don't agree with his statement that you are wasting your money on advertising. There are some people in the industry (not myself though) that are successfull with advertising. According to him, you should only persue search engines and directories. Good for beginners, but keep looking if you have been in affiliate marketing for a while. Despite some negative comments, I think the book represents value for money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good tips for clear Internet writing.
What traditionally works with paper and pen does not always read well on a computer screen. Despite another reviewer's suggestion that content is no longer king, I have to take him at his word that he did not read the book. It appears that he didn't even take the time to read the sample chapter.
3-0 out of 5 stars Read it? No.But Don't Need To
"Content is King" was true 2 years ago. Now, spam scraper sites and the inability of Search Engines, especially Google, to identify and exclude these sites have made that untrue.

Editorial Review

Building relationships with customers has been a buzz phrase in many business circles for years. Now John Hagel and Arthur Armstrong declare that's not enough. They make a strong case that business success in the very near future will depend on using the Internet to build not just relationships, but communities. The payoff, they maintain, will be phenomenal customer loyalty and high profits. But, they warn, this race will definitely go to the swift. Here's a cyberspace book that could make your business future. Not everyone agrees with Hagel and Armstrong, but with stakes so high they deserves a serious reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Prospering in the Virtual Community - Where Are We Going?
Both authors are from the esteemed McKinsey & Company.Even though released in 1997, this book has pretty much mapped out where we are now, and possibly to where the web will evolve regarding Virtual Communities.A community is started with an initial investment - a learning curve investment - then receives the positve network effects. The web is used for three basic purposes, to find content, to interact and to complete transactions. They discuss the 'critical mass' of memebers that a community must acheive before it becomes self-sustaining.They project a curve of this new web envirinoment of villages, constellations, coalitions, to finally infomediaries (a state yet to be achieved).
4-0 out of 5 stars Amazon.com
New cultures have been emerging in the world computer network.Among these cultures are Amazon.com, eBay, Yahoo, and google.Amazon provided a computer communication network allowing members to read other members reviews. Amazon track individual preferences and buying patterns and offerred products appealing to those interests. There are pitfalls in mixing technology with human relationship.Amazon avoids some of the pitfalls by customizing a portal for their members allowing them to create lists, private and public reviews, and a network of friendship. The member has the option to communicate with the outside world or remain semi secluded.Amazon and eBay virtual community services bring enormous leverage to the ordinary citizen at extremely low costs. The latent technology must be used intelligently and deliberately by an informed public. The power of the virtual community is the ability to communicate through a public medium in some sort of dispersed decision making process.Net Gain is about the conceptual framework of this communication medium.

4-0 out of 5 stars A forerunner on how to create profitable on-line communities
Notwithstanding the many new books on on-line communities, I still keep this book on my bookshelf as a useful reminder of the conceptual framework around which many new businesses - failed or otherwise - were subseqently developed.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars concise about branding and bidding for search terms
This book might be compared to a recent one by Moran and Hunt, "Search Engine Marketing". Colborn's text is a little more concise. He aims it at a marketing reader, whereas the other book was also directed to someone who knew HTML. Colborn skips any discussion of how to write actual HTML pages in a way suited for search engines to rank well. Instead, he talks more on branding your site and isolating useful words and phrases associated with it, that users might ask a search engine about.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview for starting search marketing. Needs meat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ryan Hits Home - As Usual
First, read the last four paragraphs. Then read the book.Use a marker liberally. This is a person with strong opinions and he is usually right. He is a marketer's marketer who never strays far from the fact that we all have to sell something to survive. He complies a lot of current internet thinking and best practices with a substantial heaping of his own background. He adds a sprinkling of the future with an eye on what's working now.Worth the price of admisssion, but start with the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ryan hits a homerun!
A must read for anyone who either makes or influences marketing decisions. Being a part of an organization that serves both small and medium sized businesses that need integrated marketing solutions, this book is the outline for success. As an avid reader, all too often I see either "Joe Bob's theory on marketing success" or somebody plagiarizing one of the Porter bibles; either way, they're not usable by the average guy. Ryan's book has concise, easy to implement solutions that can be scaled. In today's marketplace where most businesses have between 2 and 10 employee's and make well under a million a year in revenue, business owners need roadmaps that are easy to follow and implementable with the staff that is on hand. Ryan does this well.5-0 out of 5 stars High Performance Practicality

You gotta remember that this book was written in 2000, right around the time the dotcom bubble burst.Of course you didn't have to be amazon or ebay to survive the bloodbath, as many small independent shopping sites have been doing quite well.1-0 out of 5 stars Bridge for Sale
Is this Rod Underhill related to Roy Underhill?I see they're credited together for writing quite a few books together.Even if I was married to this guy his book isn't very good.Maybe he should stick to woodworking.

This is an excellent book for those interested in understanding the strategy behind CRM.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tehnology review
This is the bible for defining what CRM is, and is not, as well as categorizing all the technology offerings and giving good advice as to how to choose the right technology. I also read "CRM For The Common Man" by Russ Lombardo and thought it was a great precursor to CRM at the Speed of Light. CRM For The Common Man describes how to plan your CRM strategy up front, while Greenberg's book takes you to the next steps involving the technology. A great pair.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great education!
This book was truly one of the greatest educational books I've read.Whether it was intended for this or not, I don't know but what a great business overview of what CRM is as a whole.Paul's ability to simplify and his great sense of humour makes this book easy to read, easy to understand and was actually one of the most fun and informative books I've read in awhile. If your looking for a great understanding of CRM with a book that is hard to put down, this is the one.I can't wait for his second edition! ...
