1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother buying this book
I am a high-tech marketing manager and an adjunct professor. From both the real-world business side as well as the academic side, I found this book to have little value. It spends page after page on general issues regarding Internet Marketing, and never gets to anything that could be used or implemented in the business world. Topics are explained without giving specific details as to how to implement the Internet Marketing idea. A very specific example is a description of viral marketing which the author refers to as "Creating a Wave." The short section goes on to say that free media, publicity and word of mouth are important. Of course they are. But how do you get them? I feel sorry for the students that are required to purchase this book. I guess they'll have to learn Internet Marketing on the job. I'm glad I only paid $10 for this book used instead of the $90+ list price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but dated
This is a classic. One of the most serious earlier works on the topic. Professor Hanson brought a very solid theoretical framework to Web marketing. The book came at a time when we finally all wanted to get more rigouros with the "New Economy". I perused it again recently for a seminar I am giving, and it is still an excellent reference book. I would give four stars to an updated edition. I don't know if they are planning it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A second edition is urgently needed
I used the first edition in one of my e-commerce courses. While the book migth still deserve 3 stars it is very much dated and my students had to do much additional research in the net to round most of the topics. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Shock Treatment or Anarchist's Tech Handbook?
A fascinating business book that has the nerve to call virtually every business book fodder for the cat box.If you happen to communicate with people for a living, read this book and think hard about how the Internet continues to change the nature and style of business. It makes the definitive case for discarding business speak, hype-laden jargon and for finding relevant "stories" told by a heartfelt, less sanitized "voice".It's written by four smart, experienced guys, who may just be a little too angry, or too bored for their (and this book's) own good.Nonetheless, I really liked it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Ideas
This book explores the idea that the Internet enables open, honest, straightforward conversation in the marketplace.Businesses, the authors theorize, are merely collections of conversations among employees, managers and customers, and they always have been. The Internet is a tool, which has empowered customers with a human voice. It has also empowered employees to speak to each other and to the customers with their own voices, outside of the controlling dogma the organization may expound. The Internet, say the authors, is inherently radicalizing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome in its altruism
Markets are conversations. Period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting book
It has a very good approach about how to plan a marketing strategy in high tech enviroments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well balanced book
What impressed me the most about this book is the right balance of theoretical discussions and practical examples. The idea of including "views from the trenches" is just way too good. This book helped me conceptualize all the experiences that I have gathered in the past five years in the high-tech industry. This is an excellent read for people who are exclusively focused on marketing (product marketing / product management, etc) or for people who are in other functions, but want to understand the basics of high-tech marketing

5-0 out of 5 stars The best text on the marketing of high technology
Mohr's text is a good overview of industry practice, mixed with theory on marketing and the diffusion of innovations. This text is a huge step forward for the discipline. As I see the field of electronic marketing evolving, I think we will see material about the Internet moving into mainstream marketing courses. What will remain in the specialized electronic marketing course is the intersection of marketing with the cutting edge of technology.Mohr's text makes me feel much better prepared for this evolution. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Social Media Serendipity--The Best How-To Book on Corporate Blogging
Having blogged for a year and having researched blogging for two-and-a-half
5-0 out of 5 stars this book appreciates that business is progress
(and it is about time someone did so)
4-0 out of 5 stars Helps with more than "blogging"
I've read Ms. Weil's articles and e-newsletter for many years, because she writes in a way that's specific, clear beyond clear, and always answers the question, "why should my reader care...*really*?" (I work in marketing communications and so I'm not surprisingly a stickler for this). In her writing you always feel she's trying to be objective, and so you consider her credible. I was pleased that The Corporate Blogging Book possesses the same characteristics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands on advice for web copy
Although the book was very focused on selling, I found the advice very interesting and hands on! What interested me the most was the part with the psychological motivators.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes. Yes. Yes.
Another excellent book that clearly illustrates how different copy written for the web and for emails needs to be. Maria shares a lot of secrets that any serious practicioner should adapt to the online medium. The magic word here is adapt, since her emphasis is on products. I also find that short copy, or long copy that feels like short copy, is important when writing for an online audience. Still, this book is well worth the money. I recommend it to my clients and Creative Marketing Workshop attendees.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm very happy I bought this book
I have a website and I realised that my sales pitch (copy) was poor. I decided to look on amazon for some inspiration. 'Web Copy That Sells' seemed the best option, so I purchased it. I don't read too many books, but I just couldn't put this one down. I have since embarked on transforming my web copy on my website.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sad leftovers from the dark ages...
This book is at first appearance, visually interesting and consuming. But upon closer look (as in opening it) it's not worth the time, money or breath sadly. The concepts and ideas within this book can be inspiring to thoses who have the time and energy, but overall this book is just a display of bad, kitsch design. My advice? Don't bother.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not overly sophisticated
I bought this along with the Color Index, and I must admit I'm not overly impressed with the ideas in this text. 5-0 out of 5 stars i use a lot
for those who aren't experienced in the in's and out's of page layout and design, this book is a lifesaver. it really gets your creative juices flowing by simply giving you a full range of possible ideas for how you can change up your design. i found it much more useful than the idea book, which didn't really help me with the visual expression part. if you have a concept and you simply want to consider all the possibilities for how you can express it on a page, i recommend getting this book! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Out of date .... not useful anymore
this books needs two things desparately:
4-0 out of 5 stars It's very practical
It's a very practical, very well informed book. The author quoted
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful at large but confusing here and there
Even four years after its publishing date, I've found Sterne's book on Web Metrics helpful. For the most part, he's focused on business metrics applied to the web, which shields his work from obsolescence for the most part. However, when he gets into topics such as CRM and also in other places throughout the book, it feels as if he could have used a bit more editing, as he rambles and jumps between topics in a way that is more confusing than helpful. It deserves four stars, loosing one star over his occasional rambling. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a great book with tons of info to get you started. It is so easy to read and written well. I was hanging on every word and re-reading it to soak it all up. I actually think there could have been more info. I have not ventured onto his website yet. That might be my answer for the additional info I need. I think he gave you all the basics, his opinion and his experience. And then not to bore people he gives you resources to find more info. The sample forms in the back and great. I would definitely recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO MAKING YOU MONEY
I recently bought this book because I wanted to help others sell on eBay. A. I was good at it, and B. I wanted to make money. I now own my own limited liability company, FastCash Consignment Auctions, LLC, have a feedback score of over 100, delight my clients with the prices I get them for their stuff, and am considering becoming an I-Sold-It franchisee. This is the only eBay book you'll ever need, whether you're a beginner trying to figure out the best principles for selling online or someone trying to build an empire. I highly recommmend this book. The author is 100% legitimate. See what he has up for sale right now. His eBay member name is: mgrrrrr. My eBay user ID is: FastCash2006. I have no doubt you'll greatly benefit from this fast-read, easy-to-understand book. Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for everyone interested in getting in on eBay!
I have read more than my share of ebay info products online and in paperback. This book is a complete guide to getting your foot in the door and capitalizing from Skip McGrath's knowledge and expertise. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. This book gave me a road map on what exactly to do from start to finish when starting an eBay consignment business. Don't waste thousands of dollars or man hours when you can use this book to guide you every step of the way.

2-0 out of 5 stars Alot of good information, but not what it should be
My heart goes out to Ben Matthews (below) who had this thing for a level 4700. That's nuts. I had this book for a level 222 and it was a complete joke. There's a lot of good information and stories about what makes a good e-commerce site, I'll give it that. But there's nothing in here to really give you an edge as far as this stuff goes. The entire point of this book can be summed up in this statement:
2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but an e-commerce glossary...
This book serves as an introduction to e-commerce terms and principles. To me, it reads like a shallow glossary of a large number of e-commerce terms.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Ecommerce Textbook
I teach ecommerce at the undergraduate level. I plan to use this book as the backbone for the class. The objectives are tied to the e-Biz+ certification exam from CompTIA, which is a nice feature since CompTIA does a bang-up job on researching the skills needed for entry level employment.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Resource
I am not surprised at the terrific success Robert Allen has enjoyed. He is so willing to share his ideas in a simple to follow format that most of us become his raving fans. I will implement what I just learned this morning from his book. He gave me several ideas to help me work smarter. Thank you Mr. Allen!
1-0 out of 5 stars Unethcial, immoral, impractical
This book teaches people the unethical way to advertise on the internet - spamming.Following these methods, at worse, will put you in legal trouble. At best, you will be making money unethically and making lots of people angry. These stupid get rich quick internet schemes don't work anyways... don't waste your time or money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Theoretical Underpinnings
In today's economic climate it sure is a great idea to have multiple streams of income and no one tells this story better than Robert Allen. But for pure pragmatic strategy and analytical brainstorming on how to really make this work I prefer Scott Fox's new book, "Internet Riches". A serious book that has a straight forward plan that takes you step-by-step through the (not very) technical steps to a business plan, a new business and a new life. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars irony
New to the subject, I found the book pitched at the right level, stimulating for the layman and a useful starting point for teaching.
4-0 out of 5 stars If you are new to e-marketing, great book to start....
I had this book as part of my Master's Digital Marketing course at coloradotech.edu
5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing viewed from multiple angles.
I enjoyed the read becuase it wasn't the 1-man point of view like most books contain. It was a discussion from multiple angles and multiple points of view that lets you come out with your own perspective once you've read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Statistics
If you have ever struggled with statistical concepts and books that only partially explain the sources of each variable in statstical equations, then this is the book for you. Their constant repetition of statistical concepts with each example case study was VERY helpful in cementing these concepts in my mind. 5-0 out of 5 stars Optimized database marketing training
Having read many books on database marketing, direct marketing, data mining & CRM as a consultant, I appreciate the story line approach heading up each chapter most. Many books fall prone to teaching "at you" rather than guiding the user along "through the experience of doing it".5-0 out of 5 stars The only book you'll need...well worth buying
When I first became involved with database marketing in the mid-1990s, and through my tour of graduate school a few years later, books on the subject fell into two categories: basic and trivial, or advanced and impossible to comprehend.OPTIMAL DATABASE MARKETING is the perfect reference for what is probably the majority audience segment: marketing managers, senior executives, list professionals, data processors, professors, and students who want to understand all the elements of strategic planning and analysis *and* gain practical knowledge to apply professionally or in research endeavors.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Usefull Than I Thought
I just quit working for a direct competitor of this guy's business.I am embarrassed to say that many of the poor reviews on this book came from inside the walls of my previous company for competitive reasons. At the time I thought it was funny, harmless and fair game. What was interesting that made me read it the first time was the fact that there were an unusual amount of copies floating around.I thought it was good but felt like I was missing the message. Then I saw another copy sticking out of a box one day.I grabbed it, opened it up and was I amazed. The book was completely marked up and there were pieces of paper inserted with business names written on them.It suddenly came clear to me that our entire business was completely crafted after this guy's book. I've read it again and now I get it.Since then I've left my job for a factory position.
