5-0 out of 5 stars Online Marketing Success Stories: Insider Secrets from the Experts Who are Making Millions on the Internet Today
Online Marketing Success Stories: Insider Secrets from the Experts Who are Making Millions on the Internet Today by Rene V. Richards, published by Atlantic Publishing Group, Inc.
3-0 out of 5 stars Very general and not very useful
First off, I will say I did not read this book cover to cover.I read probably 75% of it, all in one afternoon. The first half to three quarters of the book are a collection of personal stories of people that have had success with their online businesses. As I was reading through these stories, they started sounding the same."I was poor growing up, knew nothing about computers, then I found these people that hooked me up with an idea or helped me in some way (sales pitch feeling here).Add a lot of hard work, determination and customer service and i'm a big success!"And that's it - no helpful tips or tricks in these stories. I plan to start a serious online retail business and there was one story that could have been helpful to me had it devulged some detail, but no such luck.None of them listed out the steps they took to launch their business...that would have been helpful!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent beginners' reference
This book mixes useful online information with engaging presentation to produce an effective, tried and true, how to book.Interesting and candid case studies of winning online businesses illustrate the journey from idea to success in layman's terms. The reader is invited to check out a wealth of website information online for the businesses profiled.

5-0 out of 5 stars shortest treatise on branding
in existence, that still tells most important things about branding you need to know.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good read, makes you think
Brand Gap was a quick airplane read. It's layout and common sense language made it an easy read. The book had very good points about brands versus logos and some real world mistakes that companies make. I read the book four weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it! Somewhat shotty construction, though - my book binding fell apart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full of information, very insightful
This is a delightful little book, easy to read, in easy to understand langauage.

5-0 out of 5 stars PRICELESS INFORMATION FOR DIRECT MARKETERS
This is as close as one gets to being a kid is a direct marketing candy store. Although, the examples are increasingly dated, they are no less brilliant examples of dos and donts. A great starting point or swipe file. Add it to your library today.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Edition Now Covers Internet and E-Mail
The thesis of this book is really quite simple. Some marketing programs simply work better than others. Here in one (large) book is a collection of the best programs put together by the best in the business. With this new edition, the latest trends in direct marketing are discussed giving them exposure along with the old standbys. Also some of the techniques (sweepstakes) that were huge a few years back have crashed in popularity. Their story is included.
5-0 out of 5 stars Like a marketing course in school
I got this book, despite the high price, because I needed to write some copy and was trying to get some good advice. The book is well organized and has lots of examples. The negative is that some of the sections probably won't be good examples to each reader so that even though something here will be helpful, not all of it will, but you still have to pay for it all.The other problem is that most of it is geared towards the big players, those with national scope and budgets.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
This book tries to cover all aspects of e-commerce on the internet but stays at a "dummy" level in terms of educating the reader about the specifics. It lacked depth and was too general for me to get anything out of it.Plus it is cluttered with many outdated and annoying web references that detract readers from the chapter readings.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference tool
There are a lot of references to resources on the web relating to the topics covered in the book.Just what I needed! The book has straightforward and simple writing about the considerations of starting andrunning a web site for profit. Then if you want to do more research, thereare plently of URLs to start your research on the web about the resourcesavailable.Perfect for a beginner. This book also is showing up onbookshelves under the title "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Starting anOnline Business" under the same ISBN.Gordon Whyte is not givencredit as an author on this version, he just does the forward for the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Comprehensive Guidebook
This book isn't just about advertising on Google. There's lot more. Of course, complete idiots won't benefit from it, but the book begins from the ground for people not familar with online marketing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, covers a lot of ground
I'm trying to get a small home business off the ground. These days you have to have a web site to be noticed so I went about learning the basics of putting up a site, publishing it etc. Then over time I began to realize how the web really works.Positioning, ranking, rating, pay per click.Way too much going on here for me to fully grasp.I found Dave's book to be a great resource to explain the inner workings of google and how the real world works. This is a valuable resource for a small business owner trying to go it alone who can not affort an IT or Marketing department. It is one of the few "how to" books I've read cover to cover.I've implimented a few basic techniques described in the book and have already noticed an incremental improvement in the number of people visiting my site. I still have work to do, but with Dave's book I now have a road map and tool kit to pull from. Also, visit Dave's personal web site.He might answer questions. Thanks Dave!(Say hello to Ruth and her brother. My kids love the bugs.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Feeling much more confident after reading this book
Because of this book, I have gained solid understanding about advertising on Google. It has greatly shortened my learning curve without suffering the pain of repeated trials and failures. In fact, this book is much more than about Google, it is an invaluable helping hand for all entrepreneurs who has the ambition to succeed through internet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Obscure and too expensive
As a professor of ecommerce I think that the authors have unnecesarily obscured a subject that deserves a better prose and a more logical thread of reasoning.Theirs is a text written for other academicians and contributors to the HBR, not for students, unless they are candidates to a very high academic degree. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars COOKING ON YOUR WEB SITE!!!
Are you a web developer and designer? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Doug Addison, has done an outstanding job of writing a book about building web sites that people will visit, use, bookmark, and revisit.
5-0 out of 5 stars Working on Web Sites in a Straight Forward Way
Doug Addison has produced a very useful and informative guide to working on Web sites. While many books look at the mechanics of HTML, or detailed coding, Web Site Cookbook rather follows the O'Reilly cookbook structure, looking at specific issues and needs and presenting answers. The book looks at the other aspects of good Web site work - colors, design and small tasks that are part of everyday Web sites now. Many of the recipes will make a more experienced Web site author go "duh," but I found myself flagging many of the entries if nothing else to do more research using some of the Web resources cited at the end of each recipe. Much of what is talked about is Web Design 101, but with so many WYSIWYG tools out there allowing anyone to produce a simple Web site, it's useful to have someone succinctly state the ideas behind complimentary colors to try and avoid those awful sites that just make your eyes burn. Nothing here is earth shattering or is something that you couldn't find on-line, but the value is Addison's organization and presentation, distilling Web speak into simple language, showing some examples and sending the reader off to other resources if he or she wants. The book is written with the idea that you are programming in PHP on top of an Apache Web server, which may not be relevant to all readers, but even those readers, like myself, who don't use PHP or Apache can carry away quick and valuable information, and have a flagged book to grab and look for information on a specific topic in the future. It's going to be a useful addition to my my desk.

4-0 out of 5 stars good reference
I skimmed through the book, and I know I will find it very useful. It points out many things that web developers will want or need to do at some point and provides easy information on how to make them happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, very helpful
I should be finished this book in about two days. It has been very helpful and specific and a vast improvement on some others in the Dummies series. Ellen Finkelsrtein has done a good job and crafted a good book. I particularly like the wayu she says: go to this web site and do this this, So I go to the webiste and bookmark ans I find it very valuable.
5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" Introduction to New Web Communication Tool
I just finished reading Ellen's book. For a year or more, I have seen webfeeds on some websites, and those little XML and RSS buttons showing up everywhere. For the life of me (and I'm pretty technosavvy), I just couldn't put it all in context. This book lays it out concisely and makes a compelling case that news and webfeeds are the next communication phenomenon, likely to be as ubiquitous as faxes and email.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great introductory book to RSS
Being a sometime web developer, it is important to keep up with the latest web technologies. If you have never heard of RSS or are not that familiar with it, I recommend this book as a great introduction to what RSS is, and how you might use it in a website.

4-0 out of 5 stars How companies survive in rapid technology sectors
Professor Afuah reveals how companies can structure successful Internet business models. He describes buying behavior among early adopters, ways to transfer innovations within a company, ways to reduce uncertainty, and methods of achieving a strong competitive position. The book's case studies give concrete examples that readers can use as a foundation for making business decisions. This is an instructive book for entrepreneurs and product managers who aim to launch products in fast-moving technology arenas. (Note: Bryan Richards is co-author of a case study on Microsoft's X-Box Online that appears in "Internet Business Models and Strategies").

3-0 out of 5 stars Took Mr. Afuah's class at Michigan ....
The book is (or was) an excellent primer to understanding the fundamental concepts of e-commerce.But while there are some business concepts thrown in (i.e. the 5 C's), they do not expand on those basic understandings of the Internet and its businesses.Anyone who had been following the Internet years via other publications would already possess the necessary knowledge that this book provides. If you don't have a good understanding, then at [$$$], there are cheaper alternatives.3-0 out of 5 stars internet business model

5-0 out of 5 stars Non-Profit Internet Strategies
This is a very complete guide to using the Internet for marketing and fundraising. It could almost be a text book for a college course - if colleges offered marketing for non-profits as a course.Great reference material.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the few must-reads for any nonprofit organization manager responsible Internet strategy
Those of us who manage nonprofit organizations have learned to use the Internet as a powerful communications medium. We invite the public to learn about us via our web sites and even to donate to us from a web browser. We've learned that this is just the beginning of the cultivation process, not the end. We've learned how to keep them coming back to the site. More importantly, we've learned to move them into our traditional cultivation processes once they make contact.
3-0 out of 5 stars College Textbook with all the liberal bias
The information in Nonprofit Internet Strategies is sound until about page 100.The information comes from a variety of those working in the field and is an amalgamation of over 15 authors. This book tends to be redundant and far left leaning politically, unfortunately. It is clear to me that these individuals wrote their chapters at the same time and did not coordinate who was to discuss what subject, also. 3-0 out of 5 stars Content Critical
I was a little taken aback by the quality of the printed copy... we use these books at work and when I compare it to earlier orders of the publication, this one and the Style Guide look like photocopies.

3-0 out of 5 stars Content Critical
This reader-friendly book provides a useful overview of the pertinent issues involved in Web content development. Its main argument is that traditional publishing principles should be applied to Web content development. The authors maintain that the quality and effectiveness of Web content can be ensured by using the same approach in online content as is used in print publishing. With regard to persuading the reader of the importance of quality of Web content, the book is effective. However, it falls short of its second goal which is to help the reader gain the skills to develop quality content. One of the main reasons for this shortcoming is the book's lack of depth. By addressing such a broad subject area, the authors neglected to provide the reader with any deep insights. Nonetheless, for anyone new to content development the book would be useful in providing a general idea of the all the elements involved in developing effective Web content. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is looking for in-depth information.

1-0 out of 5 stars An outdated, repetitive book.
I picked up this book based on the strong reviews here.Perhaps at one time this book was more relevant than it is now, in late 2005.It is most certainly not a book for web designers or developers. It might still be useful for someone in marketing, newly assigned the task of maintaining a site, who hasn't ever thought about web content before.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for serious eBay sellers
Whether you are a serious eBay seller who wants to expand your business, or if you are someone new to the auction industry who wants to start a new business - this is the book for you!I found this book to be simultaneously light-hearted and informative, which is hard to do when writing about business topics. Then again, it is about eBay!My copy of this book has become quite dog-eared and marked up as I constantly refer to it time and again, but I love it. The writers go into a lot of detail about the technical and business sides of running an eBay business without regurgitating the same information found in other eBay books. They provide fresh concepts and great ideas that sellers will be inspired by.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very informative book
This book was a very easy read, full of very helpful information.I didn't want to mark it, so I could re-sell it.But, this book is a keeper.I'm going to refer to it from time to time.It is just full of great information and ideas that I hope to put into motion.I've been only selling since July 2005, so I'm still on a very steep learning curve. This book is going to help me quite a bit, as soon as I can put some of these great ideas into effect.I Highly recommend this book, especially to someone who already has some selling experience on ebay.
5-0 out of 5 stars Make big Profits on Ebay: the ultimate guide for building a business on Ebay
This book absolutely left me breathless-I could not put it down. I wished I had read it prior to starting my ebay business in March of 2005-nevertheless; no ebayer should be without this priceless tool. I had the recent opportunity of meeting one of the authors, Charlene Davis, and she is just as awesome as this book. I am so energized and ready to make my ebay business grow even more!!!! Thanks to both authors for making this ebay lingo work for all of us!!!!! I could go on and on, but just check it out for yourself-you will not be disappointed. waynette davenport-ford Davenport Designs Savannah, Georgia ... Read more
