5-0 out of 5 stars Everything but the Sources...
I purchased this book in hopes of understanding what I need to do in order to move from casual ebay seller to powerseller.I did find ways to increase efficiency and the names and websites for the companies that provide the software but I did not find how to join buying groups, which ones are best or anything else that gives me a "Turn Key" ebay business.I work on computers, build custom systems, and occasionally take a trade in.I found that there is a company that uses this as a business model and was able to get some limited ideas from this book. This is not the book that answers "Where do I get product at a price that will make a profit on ebay".
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a How to Manual but interesting
Not sure what I expected. Ive never read much about doing business on eBay but thought it was time. Interesting stories. The format is to give you pointers by telling the stories of successful folks using eBay and the Author does that. I didnt find it terribly helpful for someone starting out and that maybe wasnt the intent but it was informative. I found that you had to dig a little for the secrets, maybe as it should be who knows? But an okay read, worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn from some of eBay's Top Sellers
This is a fascinating "behind the scenes" look in to what makes some of eBay's top sellers who they are. And...they've each taken a different path to get there. I read this cover to cover, and have referred back to it several times. A great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend this book very well done !
I mainly use this book for inspiration as a quick reference point for what things are worth. When I take this book into someone's house and quote off some prices...I get allot of happy screams of joy.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's a 'bible' no avid Ebay seller or buyer should be without
Whether you're a frequent Ebay seller or only dabble from time to time, every Ebay seller knows that setting prices is central to gaining a successful bid. The Ebay Price Guide: What Sells For What (In Every Category!) is the first reference to compile an array of items and their selling prices, from rare books to video games and jewelry. While it can't possibly hold every item ever listed, it does compile the most popular collectibles, and comes form an online auctioneer whose expertise covers some of the most trafficked Ebay categories. Each category's average sales price is listed along with high and average prices. Introductions to each section include risk assessments, tips on discounting, locating items on other venues, and more. It's a 'bible' no avid Ebay seller or buyer should be without.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not so thorough...
Although this compilation of items is a good start, it is not so thorough as to eliminate the need to browse e-bay for a more accurate idea of pricing. But, it's a good place to start and a great gift for any e-bay aficionado! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars has the auther ever built a single e-commerce site?
After browsing thru all the chapters, i got the impression that the author is only buzzword-compliant and cannot go into any detail in any subject area. She must have read a lot on ecommerce, but i doubt she ever did any "real work" with ecommerce. The writing reads like it comes from a "good" student who diligently repeats all the words a professor said in a business classroom.

4-0 out of 5 stars high level design and management of a web business
Reynolds talks about many aspects of running your own commercial website. She discusses what type of servers you might need and how to configure these using RAID to maximise uptime while preserving data against hardware failure. Also mentioned is what type of net connections might be suitable and affordable. Along with how to implement security against various types of fraud attempts.
5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE COMPLATE E-COMMERCE BOOK
The dot-com bubble is about to burst again! But, that doesn't mean that e-commerce is dead--to the contrary. Author Janice Reynolds has done an outstanding job of writing the second edition of a book that provides select comparisons of various tools needed to construct, design, and run a successful e-commerce website.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!- very practical and motivating
This book was the perfect fit.It provided very direct, useful information without being too wordy. It was also fun to ready. It inspired me to get started with my own business!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book I have read in months
This is the best, most practical book on starting your own import business I have ever read. I think the advice on "creating barriers to entry" is brilliantly easy to understand and execute to. It is not a "how to be an eBay seller" general guide, but provides specific advice around picking products that have more limited competition given the logistics of moving that product. For instance, selling large outdoor children's playsets, which can't be shipped by UPS, naturally reduces your competition, so that you aren't among 1000 others selling the same thing on eBay. This is a guide, not encyclopedia, emphasizing quality over quantity, and is well worth the price.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great organization and brevity
Great organization and brevity. Ideal for busy people who want to get right to the point. Nice format, easy to carry around. Good content on eBay spoofing / phishing, and protecting yourself as an eBay seller. Highly recommended!! Very up to date. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and short on specifics
This book is seriously overpriced and weak on specific information. Save your money -- it's not worth even $10

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Information
I ordered this book from Amazon on a Monday and received it Thursday the same week and finished reading it over the weekend.A lot of great information on material you wouldn't think about if your new to this subject.I know I'll refer to it often.Way to go guys, you did a nice job of getting the information in book form.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ebook Secrets Were REally Exposed
I found that the author knew his material well and really delivered what he promised in the title. In addition, he practiced what he preached by using the marketing strategies that were described, such as offering a good deal of important material through bonuses rather than having the material in the book, by participating in affiliate programs and making money from simply driving traffic and sales to other sites and products that will be needed for eBook marketing, and by marketing his own products. I have since been studying the marketing strategies of successful e-companies and I see the strategies described in this eBook being used extensively. I learnrd a great deal from this eBook. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Book...
Ralph Wilson could be fairly called an "international treasure". His web site and writings have guided many internet marketers to success and prosperity. He is widely consider to be one of the true "good guys" on the net.He has earned that respect.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book
Dr. Wilson is one of the few Internet marketing experts whom I trust implicitly. Why? Everything he advocates in his book you can see in action on his web sites and in his ezines. He lives up to the saying, "Practice what you preach." (He happens to be an ordained minister too). Plus, he does it all with integrity. His reviews are thorough, well-written, and objective--just like this book. Ask any successful Internet marketer for their "short-list" of most-respected experts and Ralph Wilson's name will appear on that list. I did not find his book to be "just for beginners." It is a comprehensive approach to Internet marketing so it necessarily includes elements about which experienced marketers are already familiar. I see that as a strength, not a limitation of this text.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK but not great
The book does a good intro on the topic. But as the other reviewer says, it's short on delivery and action plan. To me, this book would be good for someone who does not have much experience with the Web. If you know what ROI and CPM mean, then skip this book and pick up one that has more techniques in it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Bly has great experience and helpful hints
Learning to write content for an effective website is crucial for any business or organization. Not only does Bly recommend good writing practices, he also describes the best way to design and market your website. This book is a credible source and a helpful resource for anyone pursuing web content development.
1-0 out of 5 stars Weak, Lacking Depth and Dated material
I've read many books in this segment and I would strongly recommend reading Hot Text: Web Writing that Works or Networds. Robert Bly is a "print guy" that thought it would be interesting to write a book on electronic copy.I would say that the first half of the book is written by supposed experts in on-line marketing. The book is crowded with all sorts of references to other people's work. This leads to a very choppy style of reading in my opinion. The author uses case studies from work that he has already completed but rarely does the content match the electronic world. For a book that is written in 2003, the data is incredibly dated. The author is comfortable with using data from 1996 in a book that talks about the ever changing environment of On-Line marketing. Most of the data regarding internet statistics was incredibly dated. The author talksabout the principals of good copy writing but rarely goes into any depth with regards to examples of the principals.I found the writing to be lazy to say the least.Clearly this author is capitalizing on the interest of electronic copy.Take out the experts that know about on-line marketing, you're left with an incredibly weak book.Although there are is a lot of expert reference, rarely do the experts go into any depth with regards to their arguments or points.Ifthis book is the only book that you are exposed to within this segment; you might be left thinking that you read an average book. When you compare the book to other books in the same segment, it simply doesn't compare. Not a good book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some fresh insight with lots of filler
I was excited to read in the Introduction, "There are lots of books out there that will teach you how to register and list items."Unfortunately, this book is clearly one of them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great How-To with Real Amazon Seller Insights
If you're considering selling on Amazon, this book is a fantastic, comprehensive resource. If you already sell on Amazon, you'll find plenty of off-the-beaten-path tips and tricks, as well as a good helping of fundamentals that you may need to be reminded of. Great info on "word of mouth" trends, the marketing power of product reviews (and writing them for others), and much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for getting started
I have been selling on Amazon for over four years, and I learned how to do everything as I went along. While I have been successful, some mistakes were made. Nothing serious, but there were a few instances of negative feedback and lost revenue that were a direct consequence of what I did wrong. Therefore, with my experience, there was very little in this book that was even slightly new to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for messaging systems administrators
Be it inane e-mails with topics such as "retention bobble cicada emanuel," attempts to pitch 21st century snake oil, or incessant pleas to refinance your mortgage or find a date online, we've all received our share of spam. And as antispam software develops, mass marketers get ever more crafty in defeating these programs. Spam is truly overwhelming today's workplaces, and systems administrators are in dire need of effective solutions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Read
I was naive to believe that stricter laws would decrease spam. Now I think that while stricter laws may not decrease the amount of spam that spammers send, they can certainly help filters to decrease the amount of spam that recipients actually see.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
This is an excellent book for hotel and travel managers as it contains tons of useful information and practical advice. Wheather you have an inhouse webmaster or are outsourcing the task (like I do), it will help you market better on the internet. I read it along with Heads In Beds-Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, and have improved my marketing activities ever since. Now I'm annoying my colleagues by telling them to read both. But those who did were grateful. A must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars well worth every cent I paid
Our family is opening a modest Inn in Bangkok, Thailand later this year, so I decided to purchase this book after reading all the rave reviews. I started browsing through this book today and boy am I impressed! The title of this book seemed rather generic at first, but it more or less covered everything I wanted to know about how to market for my inn on the WWW.5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic for all Travel Related Businesses
I am in the process of starting my own specialized tour business and brought this book out of hibernation for review. I had purchased it a couple years ago and it has just been marking time. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me create a multi-million dollar business!
The book may be a bit dated now, but when I read it back in 2001 it was chock full of fantastic info. The details are excellent and the writing is easy to understand.I would HIGHLY recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the little guys
We bought this book thinking it it would help small online merchants, but the "Merchant" in the title is misleading. It is written more for large organizations that are having a complete website developed custom for them, not for the little guys trying to get going. Also, hundreds of new ecommerce programs have been developed since this book was written which this book does not cover. And the information is outdated, such as it is no longer necessary to open a merchant account directly with your bank, or process your own credit cards on your website, as we later found out. There are companies and resellers who take care of all that for you, even including security.
3-0 out of 5 stars OutDated.
The author refers to many websites and out-dated quotes. Good book, but in our info. driven society I would suggest you read something newer or do a web search. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars practical advice for non-profits too
This book is terrific! Easy to read and packed with concrete, practical advice.I work in the non-profit sector and half expected that "Winning Clients" would not apply to me -- but it really does. The author's tips are practical, sensible, and applicable to virtually any situation in which you need to find clients/customers or funding/sponsors.He's also great at de-mystifying the "wired world" in a way that really helps you make the most out of technology....Who COULDN'T benefit from learning how to "work smarter, not harder"??

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking.
This book makes the case for having a CI function within a company very well.It also outlines major CI approaches used and shows how CI is being used in different markets by a broad range of practitioners. The interviews are very enlightening, and many of the techniques can be used by other disciplines. My interest is using CI methods and processes to keep up to date with technology risks and opportunities. This book helps. The accounts of the interviews are great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Super Searchers - Competitive Intelligence
In this book, Margaret (Peggy) Carr interviewed 17 well-known CI researchers and looked into the process of how they tackle CI projects. Each researcher revealed many of the tactics used in their work. At the end of each chapter, there is a Super Searcher Power Tips section, recapping the highlights of the interview. Even as an experienced researcher (and editor of The CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research) I was able to learn a lot from this book. ... Read more
