4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the buy.
I found it a very useful book, especially with all the downloadable forms. I felt it was a little light on user testing - but otherwise, very good. It felt a bit repetitive and that things were presented in an odd order sometimes, but it's still worth the buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thinking about creating a website and want to do it right?
BUY THIS BOOK!I wish I had this book a few months ago.It could have spared me from many of the nightmares I had while developing a college website. It includes a link to the author's website where you can find lots of forms that ask the right questions so that you can create the right solution.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book takes a SWAG at a process that could work for web redesign
I use this resource as the textbook for the "Web Site Design" course I teach at PSU.My favorite thing about this book is that it supports my course approach that "everyone has a site" and "when you get a job as a web site (designer, producer, developer)OR have the responsibility of having a site dumped in your lap.... you will not be building it from scratch."

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good!
This book was an excellent read - It really helped me in understanding a lot of the basics as well as solving difficult problems later on... If you want a "Workflow Bible" this is the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cook book for professionals
Certainly the book is not for beginners. But it was a real help in my recent practical work. Lots of tips and tricks. Highly recommended for the SAP Workflow consultant desktop.

4-0 out of 5 stars really a good book you will be happy to buy ..I'm not the author...
This book gives a really great help in understanding the architecture of Sap Workflow and its development.

5-0 out of 5 stars DAM good book
Extremely usefull roadmap to navigating the new territory of digital workflow. If you are a professional photographer shooting digitally, this book is the essential guide toeverything you need to capitalize on digital's opportunity and avoid time consuming mistakes.I feel like an evangelist, as I've bought a handfull of copies for colleagues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a great guide to managing thousands of photos
One of the most difficult realities of managing thousands of digital photo images is how to label them in a consitent manner so that you can easily retrieve photos and keep track of photos that have been altered. Another important consideration is if you will be able to read the information as software and hardware changes occur. Peter Krogh makes logical suggestions and tells you why he chose to label an image in a particular manner. The DAM Book also has great suggestions on backing up photos. I have always struggled with labeling/numbering consistency, Peter Krogh makes it all very logical.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Resource for Photographers
Any photographer who is serious about their craft needs to take a good look at The DAM Book. This book was written by a true professional that knows their stuff and will assist you in getting your photos from the the boxes and boxes scattered no doubt throughout your house and into the digital repository that is a better place to store, access, and retrieve the precious prints that you work so hard on producing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction
Iam a college student and my ambhition seems to be leaning towards film editing for the past couple of years I have worked with Final Cut Pro which was a farely simple , yet complex peice of editing software. This year Iam in an advanced class where our teacher has stressed to us to work with some Adobe After Effects 7 in additon with final cut pro I bought this book to help me further understand the software. The first time I opened up After Effects I will admit I was Iniminated I tried fooling around with some of the panels and stuff and couldnt figure anything out ,, So now I have started from chapter 1 with this book I inserted the dvd that it comes with into the computer which has sort of a classroom in a book feel to this book but much better.. Go through the chapters using the source clips provided on the dvd. This has helped me understand what After Effects is about now Iam not finished with this book yet but wanted to write a review on this because it has helped me with its easy reading and keyboard shortcuts for both pc and mac.It explains every small detail in easy to understand language there is no computer/video editor slang.. If you are looking for a good editing book and you have Adobe After Effects 7.0 This is its Bible not the manual , which tends to use more slang assming that the purchaser knows what they are talking about , the manual tends to make things more difficult. This book makes even someone has never worked with film editing able to accomplish what they would like and learn the software.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am so happy to have found this book and DVD lesson
I have needed InDesign Training for a very long time.It is the only program the agency I work for is allowed to use, but I live in the middle of nowhere and have been unable to attend classes. This book and 2 hour DVD lesson totally has gotten me up to speed on making page layouts.I only wish I had bought it from Amazon instead of Barnes and Noble, I would have saved $15.At any rate, get this book. The best thing about it is that the author uses PRACTICAL examples for doing things. Most computer books expect you to know things already.Well, I didn't know squat. Now I do.The author runs you through simple examples, getting more and more complex with functions, until you have it down.I love that!I loved this book so much I ordered his Photoshop book too since I need to learn that program. So, if you bought InDesign CS2 and need help from the get go, GET THIS BOOK FIRST!

5-0 out of 5 stars If it wasn't for Deke....
I would never have tackled InDesign CS2 without this book. Deke lays it out, so to speak, in every way. Do-along lessons, The DVD and the large pictures showing you what it should look like create a visual safety net. You almost can't go wrong. The book lessons are so clear and Deke takes you through every way to do a thing in each lesson. If you're a keyboard freak there are keyboard shortcuts galore, include Deke Keys which you can install with the lessons. I am more of a mouse person and Deke makes sure to outline all the ways you can use the mouse to access pallets and work with graphics and text. Deke is enthusiastic about the software but brutally honest about it's few shortcomings. Best of all, he takes you through the trickiest parts of the learning process and manages to be funny all the while. I always love Deke's lesson plans. Instead of using a stuffy business format for the sample documents he presents you with projects like Little Pupper Friend's Cookie Recipe or Professor Shembops 1970's pop music quiz. It all feels less intimidating. Another good thing is the way Deke explains things for those of us who have been using PageMaker or QuarkXPress. Adobe InDesign CS2 One on One is a wonderful way to learn. The book is great for design people who are not particularly "techie". Still, InDesign CS2 is not for sissies.I know this sounds nutty, but I feel like Deke is right here with me every step of the way.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enough with the shortcuts already
I bought this book because of the extensive amount of instructional video that accompanies the written text. It was something I was looking for in an instructional book - and I didn't find another book with 2+ hours of video. However, after only completing four of the chapters I cannot help but be bothered by the fact that the author has an awful habit of telling you ever possible shortcut configuration for every function. He spends an inordinate amount of time explaining all the shortcut possibilities which is very distracting when you are trying to follow along with an exercise. It's great to know all these handy shortcuts, but if you are just starting to learn InDesign (and I'm guessing here) you initially just want the basics. This approach really slows down the process. Unfortunately, these "shortcut digressions" seem to continue throughout the book. The video content (and the book content) probably could have been reduced by about 30-40% if he didn't labor about every possible shortcut every other sentence. In all fairness the book does contain a lot of content, but I am kinda disappointed by the video. They could have made this potentially excellent book truly excellent if they made an appendix of all these shortcuts rather than cram every option into every exercise. Very distracting. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginners
Photoshop CS2 Workflow: The Digital Photographer's Guide is the best Photoshop primer I've ever read. The author works through image adjustments in a very logical progression. He begins with very simple edits and works his up to more complex fine tuning. The instructions are both step-by-step and very clear. He also does an excellent job of explaining the "big picture" of why you want to make these adjustments and does not just turn you into a mouse clicker following steps by rote.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but pretty good
This wasn't exactly what I expected:There's no discussion of VersionCue, versioning and naming in general, or color managment.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best most helpful guide I own
I am teaching a beginning Photoshop class to adults, and bought this book to help me with my lesson plans.I have been mightily impressed.I have used Photoshop daily in my work since Photoshop 5, and am learning MANY new basic techniques that somehow have escaped my attention until now. I will not only save time, but improve my output with what I have learned from this book! His writing is very clear, and is also interesting to read.I have recommended it to my students, and am incredibly glad I found it before my teaching began! ... Are you having a problem with digital imaging and processing problems? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Eddie Tapp, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that shows you step-by-step digital imaging and processing production techniques that are easy to understand
4-0 out of 5 stars Tips to increase your Photoshop productivity
This book is really different from any other Photoshop book I've come across. Many Photoshop books seem bent on illustrating every feature the software provides. This can be a bit intimidating for beginning Photoshop enthusiasts, who still have trouble navigating the software. This book simply aims to help the reader organize the Photoshop environment in a way that makes it easy to perform the work of digital enhancement.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a bargain - 3 for 1!
I already had Fireworks, and then I bought the Flash and Freehand bundle. I am used to Illustrator, and this book really helped me tie all the programs together. The projects are easy to do, but challenging enough to keep up your interest. They also build up your skill level so you increase your capabilities as you work in the programs. 5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Surprise
I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I actually learned a ton more than expected which is unusual for a book not meant to teach all 3 programs. It is certainly at an intermediate level as stated which is also a refreshing surprise.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book on Distributed Systems
This book is a little more expensive than most of the flashy Web Services books these days but it is well worth the money. Set in small font and not wasting pages on chapters like "History of XML and SOAP" this book is dense in content on the architecture of distributed systems, including Web Services. We get to learn about the issues of distributed transactions and the differences between conversations, coordination and orchestration. The text is precise but nevertheless easy to follow. One of the best books I have seen on Web Services architecture.
5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive
If you want comprehensive high level overview of today's enterprise software landscape, this is a must-read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Workflows, explained simply and clearly!
This is an excellent book containing principals, patterns and practices of workflow systems. The theory of workflow is covered with terms of Petri nets, the relevant concepts are clearly explained, and a lot of practical examples with thought provoking questions are included. I enjoyed reading/studying it. Workflow practitioners will find this book very useful both for practical and theoretical aspects. Finally a book that connects the practice of workflow with simple but complete theory!
5-0 out of 5 stars Workflow design with a twist
This book has significantly changed my thinking about and approach to workflow management.Prior to reading it I based workflow systems on process chains based on frameworks such as entry-task-validation-exit (ETVX) or plan-do-check-act (PDCA).While process chains are a valid approach, the only level of formality I imposed was cost and value analysis, which I realized after reading this book was not the entire picture of a workflow.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality photographs mar book that otherwise might be useful
Is this guy really a pro?I found many of the photographs in this book to be poorly composed or just generally a boring photo. The suggested alterations seems to just be for the point of demonstrating what you can do.Is the author really that short on good photographs that he wants to recompose or enhance?

4-0 out of 5 stars Across the Board
When a digital camera takes a picture it saves the information in a digital file. This file may be processed by the camera for easier viewing or use.RAW is the name of the file format for unprocessed data. This RAW file is capable of more manipulation when transferred to a computer than a processed picture, like one in the JPG format. This allows a photographer to make the file look more like his or her vision.
5-0 out of 5 stars You'll take all your pix in RAW after reading this.
This excellent book presents a thorough, in-depth discussion of capturing, processing and manipulating images from digital cameras. It covers the Raw Mode capture file format. For those unfamiliar with it, this format saves the exact image data recorded by the camera, creating files holding the complete color data the camera is capable of detecting. In contrast, the JPG images saved by default by most digital cameras discard some of the data the camera could potentially record in an effort to miminize the file size (storage requirement) for a given image quality level.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but Not Relevant Introduction to WWF
If you are looking for high-level concepts and architecture of Windows Workflow Foundation, then this book is good. However, many of the concepts and APIs featured in the book are not present in the current beta (2.0).
2-0 out of 5 stars The only available book on windows workflow -- unfortunately
The book presents Windows Workflow Foundation. It covers all aspects of this new framework, from using out-of-the-box activities to creating new ones or creating a new hosting environment.
2-0 out of 5 stars Good overview, but has VB Code samples
Good overview of the beta framework. My fault however for assuming code samples would be in C# and was really annoyed to find the authors chose to go with the more verbose VB.Net. Not that I'm a C# fanatic, but VB.Net gets in the way when used in technical books: That's why you don't see it that often and it was really unexpected. (4 stars if C# had been used or publisher would have added disclaimer to cover: "Warning: Code samples in VB.Net") ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally Exposed
The basic principle behind this book is obviously to dissect Apple's Aperture image-editing...no no, workflow program. I was standoffish on buying Aperture as I am very married to Photoshop, however, as I began to shoot more digital photos I found myself with photos on various hard drives, backed up two or three times because I couldn't remember what I did or when I did it, and then there is Aperture and this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Aperture Exposed
What is Aperture? The program is Apple Computer Company's answer to a digital workflow for digital images. The program tries to recreate the days of editing slides on a light table. The program is like the professional version of iPhoto with more power. It is also designed to handle RAW images which most professional Single-Reflex-Lens (SLR) cameras can shoot.
5-0 out of 5 stars Aperture Exposed
This is one of the most easy-to-read technical manuals that I have come across. The style is engaging and light, while the content is comprehensive, up to date and surprisingly detailed. Recommended for those just starting with Aperture or those after a very good companion manual. ... Read more
