When I buy this type of book I usually don't read it, per se,but am more interested in the visual information. I look to these books to inspire me with great design and this book definitely does that. It is a series of design assignments/solutions which cover complete identity packages; print to web. It has numerous examples of clean, up to date design. This is not the super-trendy type of design (for that I recommend "Fresh Styles for Web Designers.")

One of the problems for the interested outsider in any field is getting an overview of the field.It is very easy to find studies of individual printers, or studies of particular locales, yet the broader picture is hard to see.Also, to be useful, such a study must be well footnoted and referenced to allow for further reading.This book by Brian Richardson is an absolute *gem* on all these counts.4-0 out of 5 stars Informative but dryish study
Richardson leads the reader into some unfamiliar corners of one of history's best-mapped locales, that of Renaissance Italy. We are taken into the printer's workshop, we stand behind the bookseller's counter, we are permitted into literate homes to see what books there are, and where, and how they are read. The examination of the mechanics and statistics of the book trade in its infancy is informative but rather dry. More engaging is the tail-end of the book where we are introduced first to writers, then readers: it is Richardson's examination of how printed books entered and enriched their lives which lifts his book, and which lingers in the reader's mind. ... I found this book to be too out of date to be of any help.Like laws that have not kept up with the technology, this book is also incapable of dealing with the modern media.I'd suggest reading Guerrilla PR Wired by Michael Levine for a more up to date and relevant techniques.

This book is simply too limited in scope and too outdated to satisfy the needs of most people who will be dealing with the media.In my job as a Media Relations officer with NATO, and with first-hand experience in working as a spokesman in a high-profile environment, I am responsible for helping senior leaders work effectively with the media.I am therefore constantly reading new material and books to learn from the experiences of others.If I were to tell the people I work with to read one book on the subject, this one would not be very high on the list.It's relatively narrow focus on predominantly one type of interview -- live television -- doesn't fit into what most people will face when dealing with media today.Seldom will people face live television when giving an interview, although many of the techniques he recommends remain useful and valid in many environments.Having said that, he emphasizes the right areas and I found many useful points that I will integrate into my own training program.The interview-guidelines list is very good, as is the Prioritized List Concept to prepare for an interview.If you're looking for just one book, this probably doesn't present the comprehensive view you need of today's media and how to give effective interviews.But if you're looking for a few pearls to add to your knowledge, or if you just can't make it through a book on the subject that is more than 75 pages long, this is worth the money.

This book is for understanding on how the laser printer works. Unfortunately a printer is very complicated mechanically and taking them apart is very tricky. This book is not practical. It doesn't emphasizetypical mechanical and electrical assemblies that need repair andreplacement due to wear and tear. Such as paper pickup rollers, fuserlamps, maint kits etc. It also doesn't have any disassembly procedures andexploded diagrams that will help you. There is no discussion on importantprinter options, such as ethernet print servers, PostScript, duplexers,power envelope feeders. I highly recommend getting a printer service manualfor your specific model instead, for example a HP single model Servicemanual. They are often on eBay auctions and printerworks.com .

This book was better than I had ever expected!I am a recent graduate and working in graphic design, and throughout school they never taught us much about pre-press.Now that I have to send my jobs to a commercial printer I realized that there was a lot that I had to learn.This book is great - it has interesting graphics and is set up in a way that makes it easy to read.It is a great tool for the beginner who needs to learn more about pre-press and printing issues, as well as the experienced designer for whom this would make an excellent resource book.It goes through the printing process and explains all aspects of pre-press, including how you should prepare your graphics before sending them off to a commercial printer and what you should leave for them to do for you.It also explains how to cut costs with your projects.I guarantee that no matter what your skill level, this book will become an important piece in your design library.

The latest in the 'Monkeewrench' series is yet another departure from the fresh originality of the first volume. Once again, the atracy's have alternated the focus of the characters, so that we now have Grace, Annie, and Sharon in a 'girls road trip to hell', with the 'menfolk' of the police force left at home trying to piece the mystery together.

However I had to wonder at Deputy Lee's wife's name going from Paula in one chapter to Cheryl several chapters later.At first I had no idea who this Cheryl was he was referring to - until it was obvious he was thinking about his wife.So I flipped back a few pages and, sure enough, she was Paula back then.A professional editor couldn't catch that and a mere reader did?
