The Great Book I Bought
I bought a PowerPoint 2000 for Windows for Dummies book for .95 (cents).I was very surprised when I opened the package and found a brand new book inside.I expected a badly torn and used book.However, I got a brand new book in the mail.I'm still suprised over that since I always taught I would get scammed if I bought anything over the internet.

Power Point 97 for Windows for Dummies
I purchased this book through Amazon.com from Matt nacc@yahoo.com. The service was great and the book arrived in near perfect condition. This book is a great help to me in making interesting presentations for my adult Sunday School class. I was raised with the yellow graphite, erasier attached to the top "word processor." This book is clearly written, easy to understand, and fun to read. I'm very satisfied with the book, the service, and the supplier. Thanks again!

Saved the day!
Ok, here's the situation, I had a job interview that required I take a proficiency test using power point and I'd never used the program before.At first I feaked when they told me, but then I ran out and grabbed a copy of this book with the hopes that it would help me not make a complete fool out of myself.Following along with the book on my notebook, I had no trouble understanding things from basics to more advanced techniques (like posting presentations on the internet).The witty voice and cartoons that the 'Dummies' books are famous for kept me alert and interested in moving forward.I never felt like I was being talked down to and was suprised to find myself enjoying the process!One thing I really appreiated is they give you multiple ways of preforming the same task, so you can choose which is best for you (also on these job proficiency tests they sometimes like to have you do it their way, so you better know more than one way to do things).Read more

Comprehensive and Valuable PowerPoint Resource
I was a fairly experienced PowerPoint user, but Bunzel's book illustrated many of the unrealized possibilities of presentation software. Especially helpful to more advanced users is the in-depth coverage of methods for incorporating movies and sound from various sources. I've been inspired now to transform my talks from blase data dumps into engaging interactive experiences. The Power of a Programmer (without being one)
If you're like me, experienced with PowerPoint, but not a programmer, then taking a trip into the world of vba scripting with David Marcovitz's "Powerful PowerPoint for Educators" makes it easy and enjoyable. This book is like having a conversation with the author who has "been there and done it" in terms of developing script that is practical and useful in so many PowerPoint projects you may need to develop. Among other objectives, I had the need to incorporate an interactive leadership style self-assessment in my cbt of the same name, and thanks to David's book I was able to let the user make his/her selections (as well as change them too), track scores, and then take those scores on to subsequent slides to discern the meaning of each of them (not to mention printing as well as saving those scores based on user preference). And of course, all along the way, I learned a great deal about other scripting options that proved useful in this application as well as for future projects.
Improperly Titled
This book is not really properly titled -- it should be "Using Scripting to Make PowerPoint Interactive." The author makes it clear (part way through the book) that he is not writing this for people with programming knowledge -- all he intends for you to do is copy the scripts he provides and use them as he intends. He even discourages the reader to read what little is written about programming.
Only book on VBA devoted to PowerPoint
Every computer coordinator and interested computer teacher, anyone who does instructional presentations / training, and college level professors who are accustomed to using PowerPoint and those constructing online programs for medical CEU programs, now using such programs as Agility Presenter or Appraiso would benefit from this book. This method of using VBA with PowerPoint truly allows for authentic, interactive, memorable, meaningful, and fun e-learning with a program many trainers already use.Sure you can do this with Flash, but most instructors in other fields than computer technology really don't have time for that learning curve. Maybe the computer teacher has time, but not the social studies teacher nor the medical professor teaching second year medical students interview techniques, for example. As an instructor it would be great to provide an additional e-learning module on CD that you created with PowerPoint and VBA. It will leave a lasting impression. Read more

PowerPoint 2003 by Grauer
Very frustrating.They have stopped including the CD with the Comprehensive edition and instead tell you to download the lessons that go with the book.Unfortunately the lessons are not at the website posted in the book.I spent 2 weeks trying to get someone, anyone at Prentice Hall to help me.I finally got the lessons (at http://wps.prenhall.com/bp_grauer_exploring2003-1, I think) but there were multiple versions and Im still not sure what all's missing.The first 10 pages are just plugs for other Prentice Hall computer books.Finally the lessons are.. OK. It lead me through the steps to create nice .PPTs, but there is no glossary, and the index is very thin.This is no comprehensive "bible" for looking up specific problems.It's much more of a "one step at a time" do in sequential order book.

Great Book!!!! Easy to follow with very nice cases!!!
And I thought that I knew Microsoft Office.It covers everything from the basics to advanced in an easy to read format which is easy to understand. This book has helped me take it to the next level. ... Read more

A Nice Attempt
Don't let the title of my review mislead you. This is a great reference book to keep on your shelf and look up when you run into a problem. In fact, you'll find many of the same answers in this book if you search for them on Google Groups, not surprising since Swinford is a regular there. What lets the book down is that it provides a scant three pages on problems arising from using PowerPoint with other applications like Word, PDF and Flash. And in my years of using PowerPoint in a real world situation, these annoyances come up more than anything else. I thought I'll be able to work around these issues when I bought this book, but was disappointed. However, maybe your requirements are different, so to be fair enough, this is just my opinion. Overall, this boom is a nice attempt.

Think of solutions rather than focusing on the product and the value of this book increases

A Honest Approach to PowerPoint
I like this book because it's the honest approach of the author that makes it so readable. The book covers more than the "manual-reprinted" books that can be seen for all computer applications these days. And the author really knows what she writes. What lets the book down is production values - it is not very well printed, and the layout isn't great either - look beyond that and the book is certainly nice.

Kathy Jacobs tells it all!!
I am a college instructor and teach PowerPoint classes and I am also contracted by many large companies to teach PowerPoint to their employees.One of the hardest parts about teaching software is finding a good book that not only explains the software, but is interesting to read and, most of all, captures the FUN of this program.Well, Kathy Jacobs has done all of this in this book.It's easy to read and she doesn't miss a trick. She not only covers the basic step-by-step stuff all the other books cover, but she also covers all the common glitches we run across when using PowerPoint.Stuff like links that break and movies that won't play on laptops - the kinds of things that only a PowerPoint USER would understand. Must Read for Trial Attorneys
This is a wonderful tool for helping attorneys learn how to take powerpoint presentations to the "next step." Use to making power point presentations for seminars/speeches, I was uncertain as to how to best simplify them for use at trial and arbitrations.This book made it easier.In fact, several of the suggestions helped me to make better power point presentations for use at seminars too. I highly recommend this book.

Very helpful
I found this book to be very helpful in planning a presentation, including things like colors to use for different room situations and how to interface with AV equipment. Coverage of PowerPoint itself was very good also and thorough.

Probably as good as it gets--more's the pity
This book did not serve my purposes particularly well, which probably says as much about my differences from the core audience of the book and of PowerPoint as it does about this book itself. All you need to create a presentation

Everything Except a Life
This is a nice book that's written in such a dry style that it's difficult to finish the book. So you might rush through the pages when you are stuck somewhere but if you thought they could have written it in a more human style, then you are spot on what this book is!
Step-by-Step Powerpoint
I had not even opened Powerpoint before I bought this book and it took me from ground zero up to detailed editing.It was easy to understand and the 'real world' excercises made learning fun.It was especially helpful to beable to play with presentations, without the fear of damanging ordestroying. I will keep the book as a wonderful resource guide.It'sdefinitely geared toward the beginner Powerpoint user. >

Good for begining users, maybe
The "step-by-step" in the title should have clued me in to the fact that this book is really for someone with limited (or no) knowledge of PowerPoint.I think I would have been much better off purchasing the"running" series, instead.Having said that, the strength ofthis book is in the way it familiarizes the reader with some of the thingsthat one can do in PowerPoint and (perhaps more importantly) provides thereader with the vocabulary to ask the paperclip guy the right question.Itdid not, to my knowledge cover anything that was not covered in the helpsection and in some case presented it in a more confusing way.I did sharethis book with a colleague, though, and she used it to enhance an existingslide show.If you are more that a little familiar with PowerPoint, thoughI think you will find (as I did) that The Running PowerPoint book has muchmore substance to it. ... Easy read!
This book is an easy read and an easy guide to make your first powerpoint presentation.It is a step by step guide that would be useful to any beginners.

Short, well illustrated walkthrough for beginners
This is a step-by-step walkthrough of the basic features of Powerpoint using more graphics than text. Many screenshots are shown with arrows to the relevant buttonsand controls. The content is pretty rudimentary; start a new file, pick a theme, create some slides with some transitions. There are some pointers to places on the web were you can find out how to make more effective presentations, but in general the book focuses on the technical how more than how an effective presentation is put together. A solid starting point for very beginning Powerpoint users.

A good "first book" for those who have no experience...
If you're new to creating PowerPoint presentations and need something to help you talk through your first one, try the book Creating a Presentation in PowerPoint by Tom Negrino (Peachpit Press).
