4-0 out of 5 stars Great book to start getting organized
This book gives you great ideas about how to get organiazed and get things going. The only thing is that you will really need to use and get along MS Outlook pretty well, else you'll miss some of the tips and tricks in the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Take Back Your Life!
I'm not even to the end of the book and I already have my e-mail box emptied to zero, all my documents and files organized on my computer into an easy reference system so I know what information I already have. I am going to apply the same principles to my paper files this week. I had so much information stored and coming in that it is a huge relief to gain control over it all! All because I applied what I learned from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stong Emphasis on Up Front Planning
I am a veteran Franklin Covey planner user and consider myself very well organized and a strong time manager. Our company recently made the move to outlook, and I purchased this book hoping to get some tips on how to make the most of planning with outlook from someone who had a time management orientation. What I didn't expect was to learn anything more about time management.Boy was I wrong!Sally provides some real eye openers about spending more time up front planning tasks to get to "Strategic Next Actions" - tasks you can actually do without any dependencies. She also packs in excellent tips on setting up a reference system, handling email, and using the outlook task categories to their full potential.

No Surprises here. It is exactly what you would expect for a Dummies book! I have been an outlook user for a long time and I know how to do much more than before!

4-0 out of 5 stars Techie Help
Several years ago, before I retired, I used Outlook at my office and was quite comfortable with it.When I became a Comcast customer, they do not "support" Outlook so I used Outlook Express. When I was able to download Outlook, I needed a refresher course in operation and info on the upgraded version that I now had. This book helped in several ways, and I continue to use it as a reference book.It is easy to read and understand. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but still some holes
Previous reviewer's comments are noted well, but I was somewhat disappointed in the coverage of forms development.I really wanted to learn to move/place fields on a contact form and designate them drop-down, etc. Simple enough, I thought, for a book of this coverage. But even though the author talked about the abilitiy to do this, there were no directions, no examples, and no description of the 'Controls' options required to do it.For a book of this size and price, I had hoped for more meat. No, not to the detail of VB scripting, but certainly more detailed coverage of Outlook's powerful forms and macro abilities. To my chagrin, I'm finding my answers under theOutlook 'Help' section in the program itself!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive
A most comprehensive treatment of Outlook.Extremely well suited for an experienced Outlook user, with many details on the use in a server/business environment.Describes the interrelationship with Windows Outlook Express.Probably a little too comprehensive for the single system user just trying to read and write a few email messages. Subject matter is exceptionally well presented and thorough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed treatment of Outlook 2003 for power users
"Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Inside Out" from Microsoft Press is geared toward intermediate and advanced users of the latest version of Outlook, which has become a bloatware office tool that surpasses Lotus Notes in functions and complexity. If you want to become a true expert at using Outlook, or plan to deploy and manage Outlook at your enterprise, or have to take some MS Office certification exams in order to advance your career, you'll find this book immensely useful. In fact, this is simply the best advanced treatment of Outlook 2003, bar none.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful book
I consult it regularly when I need to do something with Outlook VBA. Its clear, intelligently written, and comprehensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for seasoned VB coders
If you've been writing in VB and VBA for awhile then this book is a large waste of money. The first half of the book covers basic VB programming concepts like For Next, Do While, Select Case, Msg Box etc.... stuff I've been doing for years. The rest of the book has some okay examples, but it's not organized in a way that allows you to find what you are looking for easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutlely essential tool for Outlook Programming
I am a little more than a novice with VBA, but with Sue's details and explaination of the complex syntax required by Outlook, real progress was possible.I have been able to build an Outlook form with VB Script that collects data form a large number of people within my company and store it on a public foler for futher use and reference. It only took a few weeks to do that and it would not have been possible without this book.Highly recommended. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Almost teaches you what you need to know.
I bought this book mostly to learn how to customize Contact forms. This book gives you about half the info you need. Then you hit a brick wall.I spent hours searching newsgroups and web sites to fill in the other half. There are a few simple things the author could have added so the book was actually valuable instead of incredibly frustrating. For example, the book shows you how to customize a form.Great.But then the book neglects to tell you how to apply that form to existing Contacts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing
Amazon tells me I bought this in October 2004. Paradoxically, it doesn't seem like I've been using McGhee's system that long and at the same time it seems like I've been using it for years and years. It's very natural, simple, and easy to do. I have a windows mobile device and this system is perfect for it.
4-0 out of 5 stars two is not a crowd
This helpful book cannot be adequately summarized except by comparison and contrast with David Allen's Getting Things Done. This is so for two reasons. First, McGhee claims in her acknowledgements to have co-developed the system that Allen has gone on to disseminate with extraordinary results. Second, the family resemblance between the two authors' work is obvious and suggests shared genetics, even down to the marginal quotations that are meant to inspire but which I found irksomely clich?.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good framework and ideas, but felt like a sales pitch for Outlook
Similar to Getting Things Done and Seven Habits, this is a book about getting your life in order and making the best use of your time. I felt that McGhee, unlike Allen of GTD, did a great job of calling out the need to prioritize personal time and on saying "no" to tasks that don't fit into your schedule or would infringe on personal time.

5-0 out of 5 stars powerful integration of Visual Studio and MS Office
Carter and Lippert demonstrate one of the key reasons for Microsoft's continued success over almost 30 years. From its inception, Microsoft was a tool developer, writing and selling compilers and other programming aids to programmers. In similar wise, developers who wish to extend Microsoft Office applications will be pleased by the depth of detail shown in the book. Visual Studio is the IDE that gives you a comfortable and powerful platform.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worthless for Word
If you just want to switch from VB to C# and are looking for a good how to reference this is not the book for you especially as it pertains to Microsoft Word. There is a solid description and how to for the range object, but that's about it.Word's Bulleted/Numbered List object, arguably the most convoluted of them all, doesn't even get mentioned and tables are glossed over in barely 2 pages.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst prog book i have EVER read
THERE IS NO CODE Download, you get to ALL THE DOCUMENTS YOUR SELF, I have read most of the word portion (that's why I bought the book) If I had written this book I would have created an integrated application. That's what office is all about right?I think this is a great egghead book, but for learning TERRIBLE.
5-0 out of 5 stars Much value to be found here...
Part of my 2006 professional goals involve learning more about Microsoft's collaboration software. To that end, I got a review copy of Eric Carter and Eric Lippert's book Visual Studio Tools for Office - Using C# with Excel, Word, Outlook, and InfoPath.Good stuff here...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast answers to common questions
I find this a great resource when you need to administer Exchange, especially for 5.5 to 2003 admins. Everything is well written, with examples given using the GUI, command prompt and scripting.
    4-0 out of 5 stars SIMULTANEOUSCOVERAGEFORBOTH2000AND2003EDITIONS
It is not easy to judiciously cover successive editions of any given software in a single book, but I must say that the efforts of the authors of this book are commendable. Any system administrator who shares his time working with both Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 would find this book indispensable. Its contents prove that getting to understand new versions of mission-critical technologies do not always mean starting from scratch.
5-0 out of 5 stars Handy set of recipes for Exchange administrators
The cookbook style really works for a topic like Exchange server maintenance. The style defines a set of recipes where each recipe covers a single question; e.g. Rehoming Public Folders. Then it discusses the problem, gives a solution, and then discusses how the solution actually works. It gives you insight into the workings of Exchange within a practical framework.

5-0 out of 5 stars Want to learn all about Exchange and Outlook?
I have to disagree with the reviewer who says there is not a lot of depth in this book.Sure, the author does leave out some topics but he clearly states that they can either really mess up Outlook or that they are not supported by Microsoft which can get you into trouble down the road.Otherwise, this book is the bible for Exchang and Outlook development bar none.I origianlly got it to learn how to integrate our corporate CRM system with Outlook (our sales reps live in Outlook!).The book is well written, has lots of samples and gave me the kick start I needed to get my job done.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
This is a good example of a book written by an author who just wanted to "write" and finish a book. I doubt if the author really knows the subject.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
After purchasing this book and skimming through all of it while reading the sections I was interested in more thoroughly (VBScript and Custom Forms), and then going through everything a 2nd time, I was extremely disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A likeable author who knows his stuff
I am currently reading this book for the third time, and would like to add my opinions to those of the others here. 2-0 out of 5 stars Examples are in VB 6.0 instead of VB.Net
Althought this book provides some very useful subject matter, the sample code provided is written in Visual Basic 6.0 rather than the new Visual Basic .Net - a fact that was rather dissappointing given that this is a version 2002 book.Since converting complicated code like comm add ins from 6.0 to .Net is no easy endeavor, I'm finding the usefulness of this book pretty limited for my purposes. If Mr. Byrne will write the same book with .Net examples or if Microsoft and Mr. Byrne will release an updated companion CD with .Net examples, the book and its companion CD will be a lot more helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent technical programming book
The only significant criticism I have of this book is that I have to agree, it is indeed very, very similar in content and organization to its predeceessor, "Building Applications with Outlook 2000." For those who also purchased the earlier book, there is a queasy feeling of having bought the same book twice, even though Byrne's version does contain updated content. Microsoft should offer a healthy discount to those people who bought both books.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for a real Dummy
I bought this book for a client who uses Outlook for email.I've ready quite a bit of it myself and so far, everything we've needed to figure out has been covered in the book.5-0 out of 5 stars Outlook is complicated, this book is simple and worth it
Outlook is a great, albeit complex, program. It is impossible for a book (especially a Dummies book) to be an authoritative text on the program. But Outlook for Dummies goes a long way to giving a user or even an administrator of a mid-sized operation essential information to get started and use Outlook effectively. For advanced features, I depended on MS Press Book "Running Outlook 2000".Dummies has a wide breadth of information which is simple, readable and applicable to practical use of MS Outlook in an office environment.

This is by far the best step-by-step reference book for those of us who are not College trained computer nerds. Mr. Dyszel presents the material in understandable terms. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as the title describes, this book hits the mark
In her typically superb fashion, Sue has crafted an indispensable reference that digs into the internals of Outlook. A few topics discussed: How Outlook stores data, User Profiles, PRF files (what are those? Buy the book to find out) security, and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outlook gets a second chance...
To be honest with you, I had always hated Outlook. Hated it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outlook Explained
If you've got a question about Outlook whether you are a beginner or advanced this is the book for you. Curious about the array of features available to you in Outlook or have a specific question about Journals then this book will cover both needs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just Outlook!
Think of a question about Outlook and this book truly has the answer! The book is logically structured and covers everything from starting with Outlook all the way up to designing forms and creating macro's. It not only covers HOW you should use a certain functionality but also WHY and WHEN you want to use it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office @2000 -ShellyCashman Series Book
The book itself is very good. I would recommend it to those who are just starting to learn and for those who need to brush up on their skills or use as a desk reference. I did not like the "ring -binder" form as it seems flimsy and already was looking used when I got it due to shipping. I would suggest the other form for future reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book just skip the first chapters about computers!!!
The book is great but it is written for people who never had experience with computers. So I would advise anyone to skip those intial chapters. I highly recommend getting the spiral bound edition because the book is about the size of a major city's Yellow Pages and it is easier to handle.

...the paper it was printed on.This was discounted, I snatched it up without a thought or look inside. What a mistake. Even at this price it was one of the worst computer book purchases I have ever made. How can this book be called a complete reference when it does not even refer to PST file anywhere in the table of contents, index...or anywhere in the book that I could find!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Price
Although I've developed macros for years in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint, this book still gave me new information and ways to accomplish tasks. The book is well worth the time to wander through. The only suggestion I have is that unless things have changed, PowerPoint has to dynamically create and assign macros to the buttons via the Auto_Open subroutine. An Add-In is created and loaded. This wonderfulness might have been briefly explained. But maybe the assumption is that folks know this already.I'm speaking from the perspective of a person who is new to PowerPoint macros. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed as I was looking for one particular issue
I bought the book specifically to find out how to do mail merge onto letters as I do with my ACT software. The entire book had one page on the topic and did not provide any insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a great reference.
I must say that I was hesitant about getting this book.I have used different versions of Outlook for years and felt that I would not benefit from it, but I was absolutely wrong. There are features in Outlook that I had no idea about.I regret buying Act 6.0 for my contact manager now because of what I've learned about Outlook through reading this book.I'm sure there are many of you out there that feel that you have a good knowledge of Outlook - but most of you still have yet to tap into it's wonders.Outlook 2002 for Dummies is written in standard "Dummies" form and is really easy to understand, yet not too boring for tech types either! It's a good investment. ...
