4-0 out of 5 stars A likeable author who knows his stuff
I am currently reading this book for the third time, and would like to add my opinions to those of the others here. 2-0 out of 5 stars Examples are in VB 6.0 instead of VB.Net
Althought this book provides some very useful subject matter, the sample code provided is written in Visual Basic 6.0 rather than the new Visual Basic .Net - a fact that was rather dissappointing given that this is a version 2002 book.Since converting complicated code like comm add ins from 6.0 to .Net is no easy endeavor, I'm finding the usefulness of this book pretty limited for my purposes. If Mr. Byrne will write the same book with .Net examples or if Microsoft and Mr. Byrne will release an updated companion CD with .Net examples, the book and its companion CD will be a lot more helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent technical programming book
The only significant criticism I have of this book is that I have to agree, it is indeed very, very similar in content and organization to its predeceessor, "Building Applications with Outlook 2000." For those who also purchased the earlier book, there is a queasy feeling of having bought the same book twice, even though Byrne's version does contain updated content. Microsoft should offer a healthy discount to those people who bought both books.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outlook gets a second chance...
To be honest with you, I had always hated Outlook. Hated it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outlook Explained
If you've got a question about Outlook whether you are a beginner or advanced this is the book for you. Curious about the array of features available to you in Outlook or have a specific question about Journals then this book will cover both needs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just Outlook!
Think of a question about Outlook and this book truly has the answer! The book is logically structured and covers everything from starting with Outlook all the way up to designing forms and creating macro's. It not only covers HOW you should use a certain functionality but also WHY and WHEN you want to use it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Price
Although I've developed macros for years in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint, this book still gave me new information and ways to accomplish tasks. The book is well worth the time to wander through. The only suggestion I have is that unless things have changed, PowerPoint has to dynamically create and assign macros to the buttons via the Auto_Open subroutine. An Add-In is created and loaded. This wonderfulness might have been briefly explained. But maybe the assumption is that folks know this already.I'm speaking from the perspective of a person who is new to PowerPoint macros. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed as I was looking for one particular issue
I bought the book specifically to find out how to do mail merge onto letters as I do with my ACT software. The entire book had one page on the topic and did not provide any insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a great reference.
I must say that I was hesitant about getting this book.I have used different versions of Outlook for years and felt that I would not benefit from it, but I was absolutely wrong. There are features in Outlook that I had no idea about.I regret buying Act 6.0 for my contact manager now because of what I've learned about Outlook through reading this book.I'm sure there are many of you out there that feel that you have a good knowledge of Outlook - but most of you still have yet to tap into it's wonders.Outlook 2002 for Dummies is written in standard "Dummies" form and is really easy to understand, yet not too boring for tech types either! It's a good investment. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but can be much better!
I decided to get this book as it seemed to be the only one on the market that targeted the 3 exams I wanted to take. I am happy to say I passed all three exams (first-time around) using the book, AND the designer help database. I recommend buying this book if you've not taken any courses or don't know what might be on the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Programming and Feature Description Review
I am a retired software designer, now using Outlook for home use.I needed to move my cardfile from an obsolete MSDOS program to Outlook. After exporting my cardfile to a report in a text file, I wrote a VBA program to move it to an Access database. I then needed an Outlook VBA program to merge it with my existing Outlook cardfile and re-import the combined cardfile into Outlook.Ms. Cardoza's book told me what I needed to know - how to write VBA code in Outlook to read and write contacts and how to reference my Access database.
2-0 out of 5 stars The only Outlook 2003 book you need -- if you don't care to find out the answers to any of your questions
I've been using this book for about two months now, and there is a constant theme:I have a question, and this book can't answer it.Sometimes I'm able to figure it out.More often, it turns out that Outlook 2003 simply doesn't support that feature. But even in the latter case, it would be useful for the book to SAY that you can't do it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful Reference
I bought this book as a companion reference with Outlook 2003 that came with a Dell unit, Microsoft's own documentation being sparse.

3-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office @2000 -ShellyCashman Series Book
The book itself is very good. I would recommend it to those who are just starting to learn and for those who need to brush up on their skills or use as a desk reference. I did not like the "ring -binder" form as it seems flimsy and already was looking used when I got it due to shipping. I would suggest the other form for future reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book just skip the first chapters about computers!!!
The book is great but it is written for people who never had experience with computers. So I would advise anyone to skip those intial chapters. I highly recommend getting the spiral bound edition because the book is about the size of a major city's Yellow Pages and it is easier to handle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat informative book for version Act! 2004
I didn't learn too much from this book as I have been using Act! 2004 for a couple years now and have already stumbled across most of the features I need to know.It would be good book for a novice to buy.It is written well and has a user-friendly format.

3-0 out of 5 stars A book on Act 2000
I had been using Act 2000 for a long time, and this year I purchased Act 2005. If you are an Act 2000 fan, it is for you. But the many new options, interface (and bugs) of Act 2005 made this book outdated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for on-the-spot answers
If you, or many people in your organization, use ACT! day-to-day, for general contact management (but you're not trying to "split the atom" with it), than this book is a great, general purpose go-to book for quick, simple, straight-forward answers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title for this book
I'm not sure why I assumed a book entitled "Upgrading to Lotus Notes and Domino 7" would offer any assistance in upgrading.Guess what?It doesn't.It glaces over the professed main topic in a mere 13 pages at 13,000 feet, which is of no help to anyone save a Domino expert - who would not need this book anyway.Save yourself the nearly $60 and browse the IBM website where you can get an overview of new features in Domino 7 for free. This is worthless.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not an upgrade book
I bought this book with the assumption that it would assist me in performing an upgrade to Domino 7. I was also looking for abook that would assist me with learning Domino 7 Administration. This book failed horribly at either of those tasks. I found it to be more of a differnces and new features book than any kind of an upgrade guide. The book is written with the assumption that you're an expert level Notes Administrator. The topics that it does cover are only covered at a summary level. It discusses what needs to be done or what could be done but not how to do it. There is only 13 pages on how to upgrade Domino 7 and it's practically useless. The entire book is only 307 pages and could be used as a reference guide once you've upgraded, however I'm sure that most if not all the information in this book can be found on the IBM website.

4-0 out of 5 stars Upgrading sooner than later is a good thing...
By now, you probably are aware of Lotus Notes and Domino 7 and have it on your upgrade radar. But where can you find a single source of information that shows all the new features for the user, the administrator, and the developer? One place to start would be Packt Publishing's Upgrading to Lotus Notes and Domino 7, by Tim Speed, Dick McCarrick, Tara Hall, Barry Heinz, Matthew Henry, and Wendi Pohs.

Book is written in simple language and in an easy-to-follow format.Excellent diagrams.Very good instructional book for beginners and a good reference for those of us who need a refresher course in Outlook.

2-0 out of 5 stars A picture book, with little information
This "QuickSteps" book is largely a picture book: lots of nice, color screen shots of various parts of the Outlook interface, with sketchy text captions pointing to various things to tell you what they are and do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally common sense in tech!
I am a real estate agent, looking for the best way to manage contacts.I have Outlook but didn't have a clue how to go about integrating everything without reading a 1000 page book.I thought about Act! but had very mixed reviews on it.So I searched for a book that would quickly get me up and running in Outlook, and therefore would quickly tell me if the software I already have is powerful enough to do the job I need yet easy enough to let me spend my time on my real job -- not learning more software. This book does both; and the quality of the paper and color made it a pleasure to read.I got my answer -- yes, Outlook can do the job quickly and easily, freeing my time to sell real estate. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Domino Developers (new and exp.) Will Like This Book
I was a Lotus Notes email user for a long time, and then got asked to start creating some small databases for my department.I had hacked for a while and had the basics down, and then this book really helped me figure out the little nits that it takes to build good applications. Not sure why the "admin" types are saying this is a lousy book ... it is clearly intended for people creating databases and not for admins. Anyway, if you're a new developer or programmer, I think this book will help you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what i expected.....
This books is for users and maybe lowerlevel helpdesk people. This book is not suitable for admins.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!
I thought this book was superb. It covered a wide variety of topics with much depth and is a great resource. I've read several chapters now and have a much better understanding of Notes and Domino 6. Many books out there don't do as good a job as this one does. This book has it all! I would certainly recommend this book to anyone wanting to master Notes/ Domino. ... Read more
