5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Concise
I am an IT Administrator and we have installed SharePoint Services. The first hurdle is always training the users. I found this book to be very informative and easy to follow and therefore a good training tool.I recommend it to the our users for learning the ins and outs of Sharepoint. It leads the reader through the steps of using SharePoint. It has lots of good information for a new user in a concise format.

4-0 out of 5 stars To learn what it is you don't know...
Microsoft is banking on SharePoint being a major selling point of the new version of Office. But you might be struggling to get your mind around what exactly SharePoint Office is.Jeff Webb has written a pocket guide that helps give a structure to that task...SharePoint Office Pocket Guide.
5-0 out of 5 stars Small but packed
What can you say about SharePoint in 72 pages? Quite a lot. This tiny tome won't fit in your pocket unless you wear bigger jeans than me, but it does fit in my purse. I suppose Purse-Guide doesn't have the same ring, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars covers VBA only
The book is advertised as "100% comprehensive", as THE Outlook bible. I don't think this is justified. There is no advice on how to write COM add-ins or automation code in C++, though this is rather common for professional applications. The author doesn't mention it at all. I can't judge if the book is a good VBA reference, but is certainly not a comprehensive approach to Outlook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow and very indepth
I am very excited about the book.I have learned that Outlook can do so much more than is available in the basic canned version. I am not a programmer, nor am I very technical, and yet I am able to follow the information in the book.Indepth, but even amateurs can understand it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Some Valuable Information...Presentation Needs Work
This Reference Guide is packed with information to help a budding programming get started in Customizing Outlook. The enclosed disc provides some good examples support this reference material well. However, the structure of the book is a little off base.Instead of feeding a bunch of detail at the beginning, Mr. Byrne should start off with a simpler approach. In addition, he should have used a more structured approach and used Bolder or Capitalized Font for critical areas of emphasis.Furthermore, it would have been nice to give at least a basic run through on Visual Basic Programming.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for Programmers
This is an intermediate to advanced book that keeps it worthwhile VB programmers that don't know the quirks of the Outlook Object Model. The examples and disk are very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Satisfied!
I was extremely satisfied with my purchase. The book was received in excellent condition, and quicker than I expected!I will definitely be making more purchases from this seller.Thank You!

4-0 out of 5 stars Just what the "Dummie" needed
I am taking a course, through our community college, on Microsoft Office 2000. Our instructor made a general recommendation for simply written books like this. I had seen the "Dummies" books before, but had never looked at one. This book is awesome! It is so general and easy to understand. I can actually read and absorb the information easily. Thanks to the authors for bringing things down to the average person's level of understanding. Now I feel like I could tackle almost anything using Office 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Surprise!
A friend dropped this book off for me to look at, and I almost never opened it because I am generally not impressed the "Dummies" series. However, this book is wonderfully refreshing exception and everyoffice should have it. It has a brief Overview/Reference of W98, and everyaspect of Office. It is worded well, and shows you step-by-step how to do agreat many common tasks with office. It does not cover any of the subjectsin depth, and did not cover FrontPage very well, but I still have to giveit a 5. It is a well organized, well written overview of Office and I feelIt is a must have. By the way, I bought his copy and about four more sinceto cut down on technical support calls from my clients. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very, very shallow.
I was really disappointed with this book.I've never used Act before, and thought this would be a great book to start with.I read the whole book cover to cover in about 2 hours!90% of the pages are full of screenshots. It glossed over synchronization, and also use with a Palm Pilot orCE device. If you are purely a user that wants to make ACT work at themost basic of levels, I guess this book would be OK.I went to a Brick& Mortar bookstore and looked at the other Act books.Special EditionUsing Act 2000 looks *much* better.I've bought tons of stuff at Amazonand never returned a thing, but I think I'll return this book and buySpecial Edition.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fast & Easy It Is But Doesn't Go Into Explainations
If this is your first time with ACT! the book is good. It gives a screen by screen description of what keys to push. But if you have any problems, this book will not help. For instance, if you are importing a database intoACT! and don't know if it is a .txt or .dbf file you're up a creek.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for new users

5-0 out of 5 stars The book helped me with my first test
I was able to pass 521: Maintaining Domino Servers and Users studying exclusively with this book and using some practice test I came across. You will need Notes experience and I recommend finding all the practice test you can, but this book is a steal ... Everything Lotus comes up with on the test is in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not For the Casual User
This book is a very detailed examination of Domino R5, with emphasis on Administration and Application Development. It is a great STUDY GUIDE but is not particularly useful for someone with no experience wanting to get into these subjects. You must have some background in the subject to get any use out of this book. That said, I have used this as my prime study reference to earn a CLP as a developer. Two down, one to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great preparation for CLP
I'm working with notes since two years, and I've done many courses. 3 Weeks ago I started the CLP test series. The 520 Test I passed with a score of 82%, the 521 with a score of 89% and the 3th one 522 today with 80%. I have learned only with this book and old online tests. I passed all the exams the first time and I'm not good in testwriting, I'm to nervous.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant and thorough introduction to Outlook 2000

I can see this being an appropriate book for some but I ended up reading half of this book, not learning much new, and then giving up.I had used Outlook for about 1 year before picking this up and was hoping to take myknowledge of the software to a new level. It seemed to spend way too muchtime explaining straightforward stuff. It's not that I mind having thisstuff explained, it just seemed the author went into stuff in exasperatingdetail (which may be for some).Even if I was a beginner I would prefersomething more concise. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Best user guide available, but not the best it could be
Due to company mergers I was switched from Microsoft Outlook 2000 to Lotus Notes 6.5. For those who've never used Notes let me assure you it's nothing like any other email client, and if you've ever heard anyone complain about Notes they were probably justified. I compared this and three other books on Notes: How to Use Lotus Notes R6, Using Lotus Notes and Domino 6, and Lotus Notes 6 for Dummies. I thought this book was the best for someone like me, needing to use Notes for email, contacts, and calendaring, but not too much database "collaboration" or programming.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good intro to Notes
In contrast to the other reviewer's comments, I thought this book washelpful.I have extensive experience with other database and e-mailprograms, but none with Notes.I read this book prior to using Notes forthe first time, and found it to be quite helpful. No, it doesn't coversome elementary things (how to create a signature), and yes, we could dowithout the poor attempts at humor. But as far as a quick intro to Notesgoes, I think this fits the bill. You won't be an expert after reading thebook, but you will be able to use Notes without having to stumble around. My other comment is that parts of the book are skimmable - it's notnecessary to read the entire book to learn how to send e-mail or use yourcalendar.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not live up to Dummies expectations
This is easily the worst Dummies book I have ever purchased. It is only for the most novice user who has no experience in other email or PIM programs. It is too elementary, coverage is too skimpy and the poor indexmakes it nearly worthless as a reference book. A good example of thisbook's failings is its lack of discussion on how to create an internet typesignature for your email messages. The authors spend far too much timetrying to be cute with humor, effort which would have been better spentmaking a decent reference. Pass this one by. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It is not for nothing that the Dummies series is so successful: More often thannot (this book is a case in point), Dummies books deliver clear, conciseintroductions to complex software. This guide starts off with an introduction toOutlook's interface with details on how to use the package's drag-and-dropcapabilities. It then teaches you how to manage files and folders and create newviews and forms. Additional chapters focus on Outlook's Inbox and Contactsfeatures, and show you how to work with the Calendar, Notes, Journal, and Taskssections. The final section of the book, "The Part of Tens," offers ten ofalmost everything: shortcuts, things Outlook can't do, ways to use Office 97 forsnappier e-mail, ways to use Outlook and the Internet, and so on. The authorprovides a lot of detail and ease-of-use tips while making your introduction tothe package as painless as possible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Microsoft Alternative
Tony Bove's JUST SAY NO TO MICROSOFT: HOW TO DITCH MICROSOFT AND WHY IT'S NOT AS HARD AS YOU THINK is for any who have doubts about Microsoft's products and patches. Introductory chapters cover all its flaws and move on to explain how one's PC can be liberated from Microsoft products entirely. Chapters provide background history of Microsoft, detail its practices which have discouraged innovation and competition, and explains how competing operating systems work and how users can obtain and use these systems. Finally: a clear history and explanation of Microsoft's pitfalls and how to overcome them - by switching to an alternative that works.

Contrary to what it may seem, there *are* viable alternatives to Microsoft.Tony Bove strongly suggests you adopt them in his book Just Say No To Microsoft - How To Ditch Microsoft And Why It's Not As Hard As You Think.
2-0 out of 5 stars Errors
I agree with the other reviewers who spoke of errors. The book twice states that Linux was invented by a Norwegian student, presumably mixing up the separate countries of Norway and Finland. It is generally known that Linux Torvalds was in Helsinki, which is in... Finland.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I have three Office 2000 books. If I had to recommend a good one for learning the basics to beginners-this is the one. It covers the fundementalsof Word, Excel, Power Point (slide presentations) Outlook(E-mail, appointments, calenders), the basics of Publisher(publications-newsletters, brochures), and Front Page (Web pages).Even ifyou are not real familiar with the Office software-this is a good place tostart. The book is illustrated with clear, color pictures which are accompied by step-by step instructions.I find that it was a lot easier toread as compared to the technically-oriented books. (I am not a technicalperson). Along the margins of the book-there are tips, warnings andshortcuts which are very helpful. For all the non-techies like me-this isa good start.
