4-0 out of 5 stars All that you want
If you are serious about Domino, its a good guide, even if you know R5 or if you are a rookie. (but it's really heavy..you will hate it if you usually travel whit it.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't cover the new Functions and Commands
I was looking for an update book that would cover the new @Functions and @Commands in the programming language. I saw them listed in the first chapter, browsed through the other chapters and saw the real-world code examples and purchased the book. I was very disappointed to see only R5 code in the bulk of the book, even when new @functions in R6 could have been used to simplify. This is just a rushed rehash of the R5 text with new screenshots of R6 Designer client. I should have saved my money and gone with the IBM Redbook and the Lotus help documentation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beginners only...
This book follows the same formula as predecessors in the most part except for the "real world code" sections. It is very similar to the equivalent ibm red book. Domino is a well seated technology and so you will probably skip right past the first 300 pages about whats a form, a view, a page and a frameset. You could work all this out yourself if you have a designer client infront of you. It takes you through all the elements that any other domino book written about R5 does as well. Then towards the end you get some javascript and HTML basics. But nothing on CSS, (which for anyone who has built a web page after 1999 is now the formatting technique for any dynamic site). If you really have no idea what you are doing and dont have any other supporting literature then this book would help. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love all these books
I have found the IDG Visual books the best for someone totally new to computers and teaching themselves. Easy to read and understand. You see exactly how it appears on your screen. BRAVO!

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Artistic, the way of future learning
I often wondered why teaching Windows applications had to be so wordy. The entire idea of Windows is GUI. That is why Microsoft became the leader. That is why the whole world is now using computers. And yet, I see thousands of words printed to describe things that are graphical. GUI is the international language. If you want to study law, read thousands of words. If you want to study Office 2000, buy this wonderful book. What a beautiful surprise. Bravo!!... By the way, I know about technical braindumps. I am a Microsoft Cetified Systems Engineer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - Simple, clear and inviting
The bold graphics and color on every page make this a book that draws you in and along.I just bought Office 2000 and decided it was time to brush up on my skills (and learn Outlook). I use Word every day but decided to read through that section for the finer points. It was fast and easy to skim through the stuff I knew and pick up tips (like three clicks highlights the whole paragraph). This would be an especially great book for someone just beginning with computers because a GOOD picture is worth a thousand words and this book has lots of GREAT pictures. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good basic book!
This book is a great starting point for learning the features (and there are a lot of them!) of Outlook 2000.The author has a web site that has a lot more indepth features than she put in the book, but the book is a good starter book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just a basic guide....
I was very disappointed after reading this book. After reading several of the other reviews, I thought this book would cover the medium to advanced features of Outlook.Instead, there are chapters devoted to "receiving email", "how to enter in contacts", etc. This book is way to BASIC to be considered a complete guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Outlook resource I have found
Having spent the better part of the last 15 years in the pc environment, I tend to tweak a program as much as possible to produce output that meets my demands. I was having a problem finding an e-mail solution that enabled meto produce an attractive mass mail message using logos, various fonts andother objects. After spending an inordinate amount of hours reading othermanuals, and messages in virtual communities where I came upon Sue Mosher'sname, I decided to buy this book. My first reaction was to "get itright away" and go to the "bricks and mortar" competition inmy neighborhood. Too technical for them, but they could special order it.Instead, I ordered it from Amazon using the fastest delivery possible. Gotit in two days in spite of the 4th of July holiday. Opened up the book andfound the solution I was seeking in less than 10 minutes. Am starting toexplore other areas in this magnificent book. An excellent resource. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You can judge a book by the number of copies stolen...
I'm on my third copy of this book.Every time I loan it out to a new developer, I never see the book again.2-0 out of 5 stars If you want to know LotusScript - this is not for you
I expected much more on LotusScript than this book offered.I needed information and explanations. The title suggests it's all about LotusScript, but it's not.If you want some basic understanding offunctions, domino and security, which is what this book offers, there aremore helpful books out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Provides valuable cut & paste code & not avaiable elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY UNDERRATED, BUT STILL A TOP-GUN
This "Microsoft Office XP Complete" from Sybex is in many respects, one of the best-value Office XP text available. Despite its low price, the book provided all the information any user (whether beginner or expert) would ask for. Having read this book, I can't understand why many buyers continue to ignore it. The detailed chapters were presented using the simplest possible method. Its main target is the new user of Office XP, yet, old-timers would find it hard to resist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comphrensive, but not for beginners
This book is a very comprehensive manual on the use of Outlook 2002, and is great if you are well versed with Windows, Internet Protocols, and computers. It includes detailed discussions of setting up Outlook for MS Exchange Server (which allows multiple users to access Outlook data at the same time).
5-0 out of 5 stars Read cover-to-cover and it is a worthwhile read
The book does an excellent job describing how outlook works at the right level of detail. There are lots of screen shots where they provide value. The text does an excellent job talking about WHAT outlook does and HOW you can do things with outlook. It provides TIPS on how to do things and how people combine features of outlook in ways that I did not know were possible!5-0 out of 5 stars The book to have!
This book is by far one of the best I've seen on Outlook. It is geared to intermediate to advanced users and covers all the major topics in good detail. I found the chapters on integrating Outlook and Exchange Server particularly useful. There are a lot of great tips on configuring public folders and using advanced features that aren't covered in most of the other books. There is also a nice introduction to programming Outlook applications. If you are an experienced Outlook user or want to get up to speed on managing Outlook installations for Exchange Server, this is the book to have. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Leaves much to desire
The book provides a good chart of all of the Outlook 2000 objects but gives few good programming examples.Nowhere does it show how to login as an outlook user and then create and send an email.Spends too much time on the Outlook database vs. task list as if it were the only part of Outlook a developer would be interested. Not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy To Read Yet Informative
This book is very well-written. Its too easy to read to be considered,IMHO, a reference tome; you *could* use it as such, though. Programmingelitists may be offended that it starts out by presuming (the effrontery!)to provide the reader with an overview of Outlook and how it works. I foundthis book, on the whole, to be an effortless read, but enlightening - anexample of the way more books in this field *should* be written. I'm buyingmore copies to make it readily available for our MIS dept staff. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars OK for the basic beginner only!
Combined with some hands on advice and training this book is only useful for the person with few computer skills and no knowledge of Notes. If the person is computer literate, say with Microsoft Office, then the money is better spent with a more intermediate text such as Lotus Notes in 24hrs by Sams. For the money, I feel any user would be better off putting the money toward a more robust volume for the beginner/intermediate user.In our case, we wasted our money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Training Tool!
We use this as a guide for our end user training classes. It is a great reference for the students to take back to their desks. The lessons are easy to find and follow with plenty of screenshots. Also, the appendicesoffer great information on things like EMail Etiquette and Actioneer.Onceagain, Jane Calabria and Dorothy Burke simplify my life as an instructor.
