Glaring Inaccuracies
I could no longer read this book after reading in Chapter 2 the line "JScript is sometimes referred to as Javascript".Are you joking?Does this guy really believe this or was there an extreme lack of editing?Such glaring inaccuracies tend to ruin the validity of everything thereafter.

Extra Exposure to IE5ish things
I read this and got the idea for "DHTML Desktop" Dynamicproperties: You can have properties update based on push, not pull = lesscode. I had never heard of this elsewhere.

Falls short
I've noticed a disturbing trend in MS books that I have recently read.Both this and "Programming ADO" have been written by support guys at MS who seem to have a reasonably broad handle on the subject matter, butnot a very deep one.This book, in particular, teased me with the richnessof the IE development environment without really drilling down.This wouldhave been a better book if it was lighter on scripting (there are muchbetter books out there for that) and really explored the IE interfaces (ofwhich there are a ton) in depth.Having said that, If you are new to IE,then this book has some value - especially if you prefer books over MSDNdocumentation.The source code is decent as well, and at least doesn'tshort-change the C++ programmer - another disturbing trend in MS Pressbooks. ... Too much evangelizing and little technical details
Unfortuantely the author has spent alot of 'page real-estate' evangelizing the open-source movement, instead of providing more info on the innards of mozilla. Get the head's up on Mozilla
This book couldn't possibly cover the entire Mozilla code, but I think it's excellent at getting you oriented with the structure of the Mozilla code, Mozilla.org and how to use it, basic developer stuff like CVS, andhow to build Mozilla on your system, be it Unix, Linux, Windows, or Mac. Irate this one a definite buy.

Excellent Starter Guide
Getting started on the Mozilla project is nearly impossible. This book took several months off my ramp up time and I owe a huge thank you to the author Mr. Stanek. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to work with the Mozilla source. Excellent from start to finish.Read more

A good book to have, even if you're not taking the class!

vbScript is for IE5
The Code works the examples are easy to follow and the title of the book says IE5 Dynamic HTML which means that it has to work with vbscript. this is another excellent Wrox book

examples use VBScript, not Javascript
Although the subject matter is well covered, all the code examples that I saw are written in VBScript. That renders the book effectively useless if you code your client side script in javascript (which is the industry standard). Must have

I have to say that this book IS complete about the XML for IE5 subject.Of course, this a Programmer's Reference so it's not a book to learn and it's obviously IE5 specific. If you can live with those constraint andyou are looking to do get the best out of IE, take this book and you willhave all required information. This is another example of the quality (most) Wrox publishings have. The book includes some very good and essential reference to the most useful XML technologies including core XML, XSL(XSLT), Schemas&DTD's, the MS-XMLDocument Object Model (DOM), ActiveX Data Objects and lots of otherstuff. Best book I've found, but there's room for improvement.
The new XML features in IE5 are exciting, and we're starting to use XML to publish complicated db data on the web.This book got me up and running, so I've gotten a lot of use out of it.But my feeling is that no one hasreally figured out how to explain XML very well, and this book, like all ofthe other XML books I've read, seemed a little muddled and difficult toread.The first four chapters of the book are devoted to XML theory anddescriptions of the various technologies MS uses, and I found them a littleconfusing, despite the fact that I was already running some of theXML-Apache code.For me, though, the bottom line is that the technology isso useful and exciting that it's worth expending a little extra effort topick it up.If someone knows of a better book, email me and let me know.
