5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - easy to read, informative
I really liked this SEO book. It is easy to read, entertaining (which isn't easy to do for SEO) and is laid out in a easy to follow, logical order. If you are a beginner or a professional this book will help you in your opimization efforts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Written only for the Marketing Department
If you're looking for actual instructions on how to improve your Web site's code or design to be better optimized for search engines, then don't read this book. This book is written for the Marketing Department of a middle- to large-size company. It should be called, "Search Engine Optimization; An hour of paperwork a day." It's all about how to track campaigns and other esoteric tasks that have no value for someone actually doing the work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for amateurs and professionals as well.
I have never purchased any book on SEO before as I assumed the content would be too dated.

3-0 out of 5 stars Meaty Part is in a few chapters
I guess, that for a newbie, the entire book would be interesting, but for me, i found the meaty parts to be in part III , from chapter 6 onwards.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best AdWords book available
This Adwords book by Andrew Goodman is probably one of the best Adwords books around and even got positive feedback from the Google Engineer Matt Cutts (at Matt Cutt's personal Blog).
3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat out of date but still pretty useful
Google is the most popular Internet search engine, so having your ad pop up on its search results can be a boon for your business. The challenge is to get your ad to appear on the first page of search results by using just the right keywords. Author Andrew E. Goodman shows readers the best ways to play the AdWords game. The primary warning is that Google AdWords rules change faster than a book can be published, and they have changed since this book was issued. However, the book still provides valuable concepts and ideas for online ad campaigns. Learn how to select the right keywords, write copy, test your ads, modify campaigns based on collected data, set a budget and reduce the chances of attracting the wrong prospects. We believe this book gives readers a better understanding of how to work with search engine ads. ... Read more

Standards, argues Jeffrey Zeldman in Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An important if flawed book
Make no mistake. This is an important book. Zeldman is a leader in the web standards movement and his voice is worth paying attention to. On the plus side, he offers some good talking points for using with bosses and clients on why designing with web standards is a good thing. He also gives reasonable and well thought out examples and case studies of well designed sites.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of knowledge, somewhat redundant
I got this book a while back and did learn a lot from it, which some of the tips and techniques I still use today. However I did find the book to be very redundant in some of the explanations and techniques. I did however like the fact that real world examples where given and there was no browser favoring from the author which is really good considering a book isn't suppose to be an ad like so many other authors seem to think.
4-0 out of 5 stars 2nd Edition Review: a great reference with a few chapters of rambling in the beginning
To say Jeffrey Zeldman is a character is an understatement. However, he's earned his right, in a way, to stand in his soapbox and preach about web standards, since he's been pushing them for quite a while now. However, the book suffers from one main problem: it takes over 100 pages to get to the point (designing with web standards). In the first few chapters he goes on for a while about what's wrong with the state of the web, what things are being done violating the standards, etc. to the point that it gets a little old.

4-0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for beginners
The book is clear, concise and comprehensive. It covers from how toget a domain name to how to accept credit card payments.I like the emphasis in formating using CSS instead html. This was a new concept for me. The author introduces java scripts and dynamic html. I missed a chapter about how to organize, and keep update the whole web site (sometimes with hundreds of web pages, pictures, icons, etc...). It was one of my first book about the topic and I really think that it's a powefull introductory book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable walk through the essential steps in web site creation.

Editorial Review

Everyone loves Google, and it's the first place many people turn to locate information on the Internet. There's a big gap, though, between knowing that you can use Google to get advance information on your blind date and having a handle on the considerable roster of fact-finding tools that the site makes available.

5-0 out of 5 stars A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH!!
Do you want to make your Google searching experience more fruitful? If you do, then this book is for you! Authors Rael Dornfest, Paul Bausch and Tara Calishain, have done an outstanding job of writing a third edition of a book that goes beyond the instruction page to the idea of hacks.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have
Nobody browses the web anymore - we all search for whatever we want. This book helps you understand the dark secrets of Google and makes your time on the web more valuable. I only wish I'd bought itsooner!
5-0 out of 5 stars New 3rd edition shows Google's expanded capabilities
Google entered the world of search engines in 1998. It was a second incarnation of a search engine service known as BackRub. The name Google was a play on the word googol: a one followed by a hundred zeros. From the beginning, Google was different from the other major search engines online, winning converts with its friendly presentation and constantly expanding set of options.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beginner's book
The book was a good introduction to creating a web site or blog and monetizing it through adsense...if you're unfamiliar with these things. It would be a good book for me to send to my mom to introduce her to websites/blogs and a way for her to make a few dollars that way.
5-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
Yes.His ideas work. And he explains his ideas well, using sufficient images to get his points across. You're not going to get rich off AdSense in just 30 days, but if you implement his ideas and suggestions, you will start to make money from your website and blog without having to do much more than provide interesting content.
3-0 out of 5 stars If you're just starting out ...
If you're just starting out and "html", "site", "adsense", "ftp", "domain" and "host" sounds like greek to you, this is the perfect book to get you started on your path to prosperity ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Very clear & easy to understand / logical / informative / well planned

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Definitive
Here's my advice: review the book's contents (you'll need to visit O'Reilly's site at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/httptdg/).Do you need a complete understanding of the topics? If so, buy this book.Everything is clearly explained in detail, with the chapters on security and internationalization being especially good.Highly recommended!

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Facts, Poor Focus
This book has much of interest, and reads easily, with lots of pictures and lots of repetition. But it probably served me better than it would have someone who came to it to learn to use HTTP in Web programming. I cared more about the overviews of routers and servers and such, and the conceptual issues involving HTTP -- what it is and how it works. But to actually use it I would want some examples -- even just one example. Instead, we get a couple of random programs -- a mini-server in PERL, and a C program that sets up an HTTPS session using the OpenSSL routines (which themselves remain undefined).

5-0 out of 5 stars Perl-intensive book on web crawler design
A spider (also known as a web crawler or web robot) is a program which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner. This book is about how to create programs that perform the functions of a web crawler, with most of the Hacks being written in Perl. Like the rest of the Hacks series, this book presents 100 bite-sized chunks of code or technique to tackle specific activities. In this book these range from the simple - how to download a set of image files - to the complex - cross-referring the output from one site with another to generate a third set of data. No matter what the complexity, each hack is clearly explained, with the code samples balanced with instructions, examples and notes on how to hack the hack.
2-0 out of 5 stars what is in a name?
well, sometimes a generalizing lie.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but needs more variety of languages
Nearly all of the examples were written using Perl, but the few pages written with PHP contained some very useful nuggets!

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to read
I think that the book is for differente people: programmers and marketers. But I found it quite interesting althought you have to select what hacks are appropriate for your job.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overall OK, but a lot of typos, and repetition
I personally disagree with the use of "Hacks" in the title - as less than 10% of the hacks in the book are truly hacks. In anycase, it's a decent book to learn about the technicalities of web "measurement" - but I found it really repeated itself a lot. Granted a lot of the KPIs are different for different types of sites - it could of been arranged better. It felt like I read the same thing 10 times, with only minor differences. (Could of been shown in a table maybe).

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful For Beginners and Mid-level Developers
This is a well-written, easy-to-use book hitting the main points of ASP.NET 2.0.I've never read it cover-to-cover, but have gotten great use from it as a reference manual when I need to quickly figure out how to do something new in ASP.NET 2.0.
3-0 out of 5 stars good introduction to ASP.NET 2.0
This is a pretty good introduction to ASP.NET 2.0 for folks who are already familiar with ASP.NET 1.1.All of the examples are in VB.NET, so if that bothers you, you might want to look elsewhere.I prefer C# myself, so I just rewrote the examples in C# as I went along. That gave me something mildly interesting to do as I worked my way through the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Go Beyond the Basics
This is a great book for taking your ASP.NET 2.0 skills beyond the basics. Learn valuable skills for improving your web sites such as data caching, partial page caching and lowering the cost of server callbacks. Learn to let your site save user profiles and let users save site themes as a personalized profile; plus lots more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Keeper for Google Users
The "Read less-Learn More" Visual series from Wiley Publishing suits this reviewer just fine. These books, usually priced under $20, are chock full of great information presented in two-page spreadsfeaturing full-color screen shots.Google: Top 100 Simplified Tips & Tricks is the latest in the "Read Less-Learn More Visual" line and it is a keeper. The concise, step-by-step tips and tricks, are on side columns and connect to the screen shots with arrows. It is very easy to follow. Each tip features a meter showing the difficulty level.Almost all the tips introduce a new skills or task or combines multiple skills requiring in-depth knowledge; 2 and 3 respectively on a 4-point scale. At the bottom right of each spread are tips and trivia such as:"Try This", "Did You Know?", and "More Options!".The author, Joe Kraynak, writes in an easy-to-read style and he often provides examples which you can follow through the screen shots and accompanying tips. The screen shots are from Microsoft Internet Explorer's browser and only the toolbar differs from those of other browsers (I use Mozilla) but don't let that bother you.

2-0 out of 5 stars A little dissapointed
If youhave a previos experience in the field this book doesn't give you examples nor ways to discover how much bandwitdh you're really saving. So don't expect much from this book. If you want to have a general line-up of WEB CACHING, this is your book. It explains why caching is important but no more.
3-0 out of 5 stars Very approachable
Really enjoyed reading this one as it starts from the basics and then neatly provides a tight overviews of the major areas without miring the reader in logs. Nicely done!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's just a plain theoretical book about Web Cache
If your planning to buy this book and hoping will help you setup good Web Caching infrastructure like Squid, forget it!!! this will not help you..

5-0 out of 5 stars After you create your web page, then what?
This is a great starter book, but once you get your web site designed, then what?I wanted to know more about hosting services and costs, etc. Then found another title on here called "The Complete Web Hosting Kit Pro."This is a complete kit that lets you host your web site on your own PC for free.Comes with everything you need... instructions and software to host your site on your PC at home or at work.I recommend both this book and the web hosting kit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed
If you are looking to obtain a basic knowlege of web programming, then this is not the book for you. I wanted a basic guide, but the author managed to create a book that is TOO basic. Yes, I was able to get my first website up on the internet, but it doesn't DO anything. For that, I'll need to buy another book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok if considered in the big picture
As those of us in the web design business know, creating a successful website is 10% web page creation and 90% business smarts. It's often misunderstood that making web pages is the hard work. This book is really well written, but must be considered in the big picture of web commerce.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for beginners.
I started using Mozilla when it was still in beta mode and then progressed to Firefox when that came out in beta. Since then, the only time that I use IE is when there are pages that will not render correctly in Firefox. I have also been successful in converting several people at work including my manager to Firefox. The rumor mill has it that our VP of Information Technology is a big fan of Firefox to the point that he is considering making Firefox the preferred browser.
5-0 out of 5 stars Useful for novice to intermediate users
When it comes to Internet browser and newsreader software Firefox and Thunderbird are both considered to be one of the best available.Firefox is the browser of choice for me and has been for some time. This book is about getting under the hood and modifying your Firefox and Thunderbird to make them work the way you want them to and make your experience more pleasurable.Just like car enthusiasts will take a stock car and modify it to be their pride and joy, this book explains how to take the stock installation of Firefox and Thunderbird and make them work the way you wish a browser and newsreader would work.Filled with valuable advice and insight, the authors don't waste waste a lot of words trying to explain things you don't really need to know.Basically they point out an item that can be improved, describes how it can work better, and then walks you through how to implement the change. With multiple appendixes that are packed with very valuable information, Firefox & Thunderbird Garage is highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mainstream
If you look at this book for what it is, it is a five-star book. This book is attempting to bring Firefox mainstream. The director of Engineering for the firm is the author. That says a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Linux Web Server CD Bookshelf
The Linux Web Server CD Bookshelf gave me everything I needed right at my finger tips. If there was only one major reason that you should buy this Bookshelf it would be the search capabilities alone. This Bookshelf comes with the ability to search all 6 books at once for any subject you want. This was the first type of CD Bookshelf that I have ordered. If it is possible I will only buy CD Bookshelves from now on. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reference
Putting aside the CD-Roms, the alpha layout of the book itself is wonderful and just what I was looking for. Very concise and and again the book itself is worth the money. It is made to be used as a resource and a reference.I wish other books were laid out this way. After spending hrs and hrs looking thru books I finally found my first choice. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
Yes, there are many books out there on using Google. Yes, this is a good book for teaching the new user about using Google. But this information can easily be found anywhere on the Internet. The only chapter I found useful was the advanced searching portion.I read that in less than five minutes, however, and I am far from being a speed reader.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book!
Fritz Schneider, Nancy Blachman and Eric Fredricksen did indeed an excellent job with this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Greasemonkey users unite!
I've been playing with the extensions in Firefox for some time, and one of the more interesting ones is Greasemonkey, which allows you to alter websites on the client side to add functionality or to remove annoyances. The Greasemonkey language is very similar to JavaScript, so Ajax/JavaScript junkies can get a very quick grasp of the techniques in the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Technical, but good
If you're looking for a book on how to actually get started with Greasemonkey *coding* this is a great book. Sure, there's a collection of basic intro info, but this is a how-to book for coders. That's not a bad thing, of course! And from a coding standpoint, it does a great job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Index!
Has a really poor index.
