1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this book at all costs
Fortunately I only paid a few pound for this book at a book fair. I have been successfully day trading for over 5 years, have read in excess of 60 books. This is the worst I have seen. Oliver Velez should be taking out the backyard and horse whipped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beware of superbookdeals seller
If you want to buy the book, go ahead, just be careful of superbookdeals, they take your money but don't deliver and don't answer emails. Caveat Emptor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This edition is as useful as the earlier editions. Besides providing insight on almost all the topics of VLSI, the third edition also addresses several issues related to the sub-micron technology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rich engineering information from practice in VLSI
I have more than 15 integrated circuit design text book, this new edition is one of the best. It bridges academy with industry for VLSI, I like the part about "pitfalls" very much, it provides real lessons what industry has experienced. I like the way this book surveys related topics, for example, sequential circuits topics. It has a brief and good coverage on low power topic(covered in sections in differenct chapters). It also introduces Hspice with useful commands not seen in other text books.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Text
The best book on VLSI out there!A must for all designers and professionals. This book gives insight that very few books on VLSI give. Its a treasure and a book to remain in one's collection well after that first, difficult yet exciting, semester in VLSI.A superlative book and read! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginners! Many errors.
The book is definitely not for teaching beginners, it is to prepare for the MOS cetification. However, many exercises have some sort of mistakes, either instructional or numeric type mistakes so that the exercises CANNOT be assigned as home work, but have to be done with the students in class and the "BUGS" worked out before they can do them on their own. It is a real shame to release a study book without proof reading it first and correcting the mistakes. An individual who is studying for the MOS Excel certification can get some good information from the book, but a student will be very confused if not very frustrated using it. Even as an instructor I get frustrated over the numerous errors. I have one suggestion: I'll correct the errors if the author/publisher pays me for doing the work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Step by Step
This is the book you need to ;earn Excel. Included is a CD and the reading is very easy and understandable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Run away from this book.
The first two chapters in this book are just a straightforward explanation of the Excel worksheet. The third chapter is where you are supposed to begin learning how to use Excel. The very first section in the chapter -- creating formulas to calculate values -- starts with an example that is wrong! You cannot perform the calculation given by the author by following his instructions. Instead, you receive an error message. This particular calculation is an absolutely basic one for using Excel. A visit to Microsoft's website does not provide you with a correction for that or anything else. Any reputable publisher -- O'Reilly for instance -- always has a link where you can find errors corrected. I stopped using the book at this point and purchased Excel 2003 Personal Trainer. I have not found an error in that book and I have completed four of the chapters. It appears Microsoft Excel 2003 Step by Step is in the best tradition of Microsoft products. Their operating system gives us viruses, infections, spyware, trojans, and adware. (This is why Microsoft's new operating system is called VISTA.) This book gives us the printed version of these problems -- poorly written text. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If I coul give it 6 stars I would give it 7!
Not only the content is way to complete for the exam and the real life, the learning metodology is a work of art, it is very light to read (unlike other technical books that dry your brain in one hour).
5-0 out of 5 stars Authors have clarity
Authors know the stuff. They didn't just reformat the contents from other places to make this book
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Enough End-to-End Examples
This book has its strong points and weakness. It explains certain concepts really well. However it did not have much end-to-end exercise for people to practice. Only 1 end-to-end example in the entire book as I recall. Therefore, it is hard to sink in what you have read. Especially, jsp and servlets need to have multiple pieces put together in order to make the application run. The example does not need to be complehansive, but will help the readers to put all the pieces together. If you are looking for examples to guide you through, then this book is not for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excel
this is a real good book if you want to get the basic of it.

2-0 out of 5 stars I can't find anything on pivot tables
I already knew almost everything in this book, so I was disappointed when it arrived and I started looking through it. I ordered it hoping it would give me a simple explanation "for dummies" on what pivot tables are and how to create/work with them. They're not even listed in the index!
5-0 out of 5 stars Well Pleased
This book is well-written, easily understood and met all my expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars XVII vs 17 - Names Matter
You know how much it helps to choose nice names for the variables in your programs - yes you will have seen some of these patterns before, but having the nice names to think with can be like Roman vs Decimal numerals - XVII or 17, there's a difference.Searching for [ Tidwell Interfaces ] you can find the author's site, which has free excerpts. Amazon lacks an "online excerpts available" pattern, is this good business or not, hmm.

5-0 out of 5 stars collection of interface design patterns
this is not a "how to design interfaces" book - more of a "here is what has worked in the past when people designed interfaces". it's great for inspiration, as its examples range across web apps, desktop apps, mobile devices and others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clearly written, thoughtful content
I enjoyed this book for two reasons:

2-0 out of 5 stars On topic, but needs much better editing
I read and studied this book," Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam", for my one study aid in quick preparation for the CISSP exam. I found the book's coverage of topics and the common body of knowledge to be fine; indeed the book is tuned to the CISSP exam's intended scope rather well. The problem with this book is quality control and the details. Just to get it out of the way, what annoyed me the most is that many of the sample "exam questions" are flawed lacking quality control. Not flawed like the CISSP exam questions themselves are known to be, but simply poorly written. The answer section for the sample questions has many flaws and mistakes: such as mixing up answers for other chapters' questions, unfinished text, etc. A frustrating way to end each chapter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cosider a must-have
I rate this book very hight because it is a serious content / concept based book for not only the exam but to really make things clear that it covers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but not end-all be-all
A very useful resource for anybody interested in the field of Information Security. It provides an overview of the 10 bodies of knowledge that candidates for the CISSP exam are required to master. However, while this book is excellent as reference material, it is not as suitable as a study guide. Due to the nature of the book (it is authorized by many different writers), there is quite a bit of repetition of material, and slightly different viewpoints on what often appears to be the same issue. Sometimes, the differences between the viewpoints are not clearly articulated, which may lead to confusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-read if you're working with threaded Java applications...
It's common knowledge that you can easily get burned with Java programs that are multi-threaded.I would strongly recommend that if you are going down the multi-threaded path, you *need* to get this book...Java Concurrency In Practice by Brian Goetz. This bridges the gap between what the reference manuals say and how things work in the real world.
5-0 out of 5 stars At last! A readable, expert book on Java concurrency
Concurrency is hard and boring. Unfortunately, my favoured technique of ignoring it and hoping it will go away doesn't look like it's going to bear fruit. Fortunately, Java 5.0 introduced a new bunch of concurrency utilities, that work at a higher level of abstraction than marking blocks as synchronized and fields as volatile. Unfortunately, there haven't been that many books on the subject - even the good Java 5.0 books (e.g. Head First Java or Agile Java) make little mention of them - Thinking in Java being an honourable exception. Fortunately, JCIP is here, and it is authoritative stuff. And it's (mostly) very easy to understand. Plus, at 350 pages, it's not an enormous chore to slog through. It even covers changes to the upcoming Java 6.
5-0 out of 5 stars Who's afraid of concurrency now :-)
This gem of a book is a comprehensive and authoritative coverage of one of the most mentally intimidating programming concepts - concurrency.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Frank Raggo
My name is Dr. Frank Raggo and I have read all of Mr. Wisniewski's books. Wireless and Cellular Networks is a great climax in the other 2 books written by this author Network Administartion and Advanced Network Administration. I am a PH.d at the University of Michigan and teach a course in Wireless Networking using this book.It is a great book explaining the technologies of wireless networking covering the latest trends and standards from soup to nuts. The book also covers cordless and cellular networks as well. I highly recommend this book to all who wish to learn about designing and building wireless networks. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad book - Good fundamentals less on development focus
This book is all about Web services platform architecture and standards. It cooks well on most of the alphabet soup of web services standards. This book would guide you instead of browsing over the internet for what is what. The book falls short on guidelines for implementing them. The book also a bit old in its evolving specifications and endorsed standards coverage particularly less about WS-I and WS-Security* standards. That is disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explains all you need to know about the Web Services Platform
What do you get when you put a number of Web Services gurus from IBM in a room for a while? You'll get the "Web Services Platform Architecture" book.In short, all the authors that assisted in writing this book are Web services experts from IBM who have either wrote the specs or assisted in writing the Web services specs in question. The nice thing about the book is that is it an easy read.It is not a dry, boring, "reading-these-specs is-putting-my-to-sleep," book.As you know, there are a number of specs that cover Web services, so the authors have a taken a short-and-sweet approach to each protocol. Each protocol is covered in detail, but the detail surrounds why you would want to care about this protocol, and not what paragraph 4, subparagraph 8 of chapter 2 of WS-Security says about naming conventions, for example. Each chapter ties the business needs to the technical aspects of the protocol, and talks about how the protocol can be used to solve a given business problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deke - PhotoShop - McClelland
I am sure there are other books that might be easier to follow and that might offer more than this one for learning all of what PhotoShop has to offer, but I just have not found them yet. Light to read with easy step by step instructions for the beginner as well as the accomplished image processor.
5-0 out of 5 stars One-on-One -- it's not just another Photoshop book
Deke McClelland knows his subject very well and presents it in a clear and orderly way so new learning rests on a solid foundation. The format works: read the lesson, watch the DVD-ROM video lesson, do the exercises, take the quiz at the end of the chapter. Each lesson is designed to be understandable by those without much Photoshop experience and still include a few techniques that even experienced users probably don't know. And he does it all with good humor. Work files and video lessons are all included on the DVD-ROM in the book, which is bound so it lies open and flat on the desk without any hassle.
5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect jumpstart for Photoshop newbies
This was the jumpstart I needed to learning photoshop. This is not so much a tutorial as it is a get-up and start-using photoshop one-on-one session, exactly as the title suggests. So instead of learning the interface in text-book procedural fashion, it's kind of like apprenticing for the author Deke (who also wrote the photoshop bible book).BTW, the author is notably an Master at photoshop, as is apparent when he tells you "nobody uses this command, you can do that function with this new command here".There's a lot to be distracted in photoshop, hundreds and hundreds of different functions, and it turns out that many of these functions are obsolete and only left-in to satisfy old users, so having Deke point these things out is fantastic.Eg, unsharpen mask, obsolete.smart sharpen, da-shizzle.

This is such a fabulous book taking a coffee break with the who's who of big producers. If you do music, you'll know there isn't really a shortcut to everything. That is why GREAT production work is such an art and everyone's got their way to make it sound..sound off effortlessly...if they're good.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Lightbulb Came On
I've been recording at home for 20 years. For much of that time, I relied on Recording Magazine, tips from friends, and my ears to get by.My system was fairly simple - cassette-based multi-track, simple dbx compressor, and a few mics and digital effects. Then, it was time to move up.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book
This book is a definite must have if you are getting started in audio recording. I produce hip-hop & R&B beats on a Protools set up. This book has helped me turn hollow sounding music into a full sounding production. The question and answer section of the book gets some of todays best mixing engineers thoughts behind mixing. Editorial Review

In most thrillers, "hardware" consists of big guns, airplanes, military vehicles, and weapons that make things explode. Dan Brown has written a thriller for those of us who like our hardware with disc drives and who rate our heroes by big brainpower rather than big firepower. It's an Internet user's spy novel where the good guys and bad guys struggle over secrets somewhat more intellectual than just where the secret formula is hidden--they have to gain understanding of what the secret formula actually is.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but flawed techo-thriller
The National Security Agency's new and mighty code-cracking computer, TRANSLTR, has been working on a single puzzle for so long that the top cryptographer at "No Such Agency" (as it's nicknamed) can't believe her eyes when she sees its time elapsed counter. Her boss, Deputy Director Strathmore, has called her in on a Saturday because he trusts his protege to help him obtain the algorithm's pass-key without letting anyone else know what's going on. This algorithm, called Digital Fortress, is billed by its creator - a disgruntled and idealistic former NSA employee - as the only uncrackable encryption code ever written. Strathmore has fed it into TRANSLTR to test that claim. He must have the pass-key to carry out his plan for Digital Fortress, assuming it really can't be broken.
3-0 out of 5 stars Abridged CD was interesting, but...
Digital Fortress, the CD, was narrated by Bruce Sabath.Since I haven't read the unabridged version (and haven't read any other reviews of the abridged version), I can't comment whether the editors make a so-so story better or worse by cutting it down.In the abridged version, perhaps the unbelievable occurrences were tempered by the interest I had in the workings (real or imagined) of the ultra-secret NSA and the code-breakers.
2-0 out of 5 stars a little too far fetched
Maybe it's just the geek in me crying out for mercy, but I find a lot of the details of this book pretty far-fetched.Plus, after we figured out whodunit and such, it just seemed to drag on forever.I ended up skimming the last 30 pages or so just to get it over with.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Essential Perl Book
This book is _the_ book to get when you want to get serious about Perl.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not my style of learning
The book is well edited and has obviously evloved since its first edition to meet the needs of its readers, based on their feedback.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best reference for programmers new to Perl
I am not new to programming, but was new to Perl when I took a job that required a ton of pattern matching based scripting. I immediately convinced my boss to buy a bunch of Perl books, including this one. Usually, I am the type to use Google more than any book when learning a new language, but this book has been indispensible. I go to it first anytime I want to know how to do something in Perl, and 9 times out of 10 it is the only resource I need. I agree with other reviewers that this is not the book for beginning programmers, but I could have saved my boss a lot of money had I just had her buy me this one. It's all I've needed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars dj vu of the PMP exam
I had a very short time to prepare for the PMP examination. I took the decision to buy this software along with the PMP exam prep book by Rita Mulcahy. When I was taking the exam, I had a feeling of dj vu, thanks to this simulation software. Most of the questions in the exam were similar to the ones in this simulation software. In terms of PMP terminologies, this book's " 'benefit cost ratio' is greater than one".

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for passing the PMP 2004
I reviewed this book two weeks prior to the PMP exam and passed. It is a geat refresher/translator of PMPisms for folks with extensive Project Management exprenice whom do not want to take/pay for the PMP Prep Classes.
