Finally, someone puts the pieces together.
I have spent the past ten years making my living developing integrated & automated financial systems using Excel, Access, and VBA for accounting and finance departments.That said, I literally have dozens of Excel, Access, and VBA books on my bookshelf.This is the only book that I have ever seen that integrates Excel and Access.It of course uses VBA to accomplish much of this.

VERY VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Are you a web developer? If you are, then this book is for you. Author Christian Wenz, has done an outstanding job of writing a book for developers who are using ASP.NET and would like to take their applications a step further by using the Ajax technology; and, for developers who are using another technology, but are interested in the Atlas framework.
Most helpful if you're committed to the Microsoft platform...
As they've done with most popular technologies, Microsoft took Ajax and wrapped it up into a form that is tightly integrated with their own software framework.The result is what they call Atlas, and it's basically Ajax integrated with ASP.NET.If that's your platform of choice, then you'll likely find a lot of value in the book Programming Atlas by Christian Wenz.
Good reference, but do we really need Atlas books?
Even though Atlas has not yet been officially released, this book is already a late comer to the market. It's been beaten to market by a variety of AJAX texts that included some coverage of Atlas and at least one dedicated Atlas book from Apress. With all the press around Ajax and the huge Microsoft ASP.NET programmers market, putting out a book in the Atlas category is an opportunity that won't be ignored by the major publishing houses. After trying out Atlas for a while during its Community Technology Preview (CTP) release and seeing the fairly extensive documentation and examples released by both Microsoft and the community, I tend to think that it's an opportunity that they might best have chosen to ignore just the same.

Microsoft Office Word 2003 Step by Step
Has help me with my certification, and showed me a couple of tricks I didn't know.

Waste of $
I had previously purchased Microsoft Office Step-By-Step and Microsoft Office Specialist Study Guide. I bought Word SBS along with Excel SBS, Access SBS, and PowerPoint SBS hoping that they would be more in depth for a novice user like myself who wants to build my skills and learn the intricacies of MS Office. Imagine my surprise, when after opening the CDs to all and loading them onto my computer, the exercises are the same as in the first two books I bought. They can't be sent back since the seal is broken on the disk packaging.

Empowering, Clear, and Consise
I have to say that this book is simply amazing.I have searched the longest to clearly understand not just about PKI, but actually how to implement it, and was always referred to tombs of mathematical theory and such.This book demystifies PKI infrastructure in clear and concise explanations (but not overkill though), and has a lot of material on how to practically implement a variety of PKI architectures that can fit small businesses to huge enterprise corporations.
Bset book I've seen on PKI and certificate management
Brian Komar tackles, what I've seen countless other authors refer to as a difficult to understand subject matter.It appearantly took a whole team at Microsoft to explain it to him, but it looks like he got it right.Of the many books I've read that address certificates and PKI this is the only one I've seen that presents a complete picture, where I didn't walk away wondering... but how does this part of it work, or why did they do that this way.
The best PKI implementation guide
This is by far the best reference out there for understanding PKI in general and implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CA infrastructure. Komar's depth of knowledge and breadth of experience clearly shows. Found the description of CAPolicy.INF files and sample files and scripts in this book extremely useful - that alone saved me a lot of time. And it doesn't end there...

Good Advanced Organizer
First, I'm not a DBA but I install, maintain, and use SQL Server 2005 in lab and workgroup settings.
First 3 chapters looks promising. After that it is useless
During reading the first 3 chapters. this book was very promising. Thethe author kept repeating himself "I will show you how to do this, to do that". But after the first 3 chapters, his writing becomes dull. Nothing useful to go on reading. Maybe He was rushing to publish this book or the style that he prepared to go into his writing just died out.Whatever reason, one thing I learned from this book is: What a SQL Server DBA is supposed to do on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. I read so many 5 stars books going into details about writing code to backup, restore, scheduling...etc. But those books forget one point: What a SQL Server DBA is supposed to do on a daily basis. Maybe it is not important for an experienced DBA but it may be important for other I.T guys who want to be DBA. That's why we read books for.
Careful
A pet peeve i have w/ Microsoft books is they just mirror the help files. This admin guide is not much more than regurgitated help files. I was hoping for some useful examples, closer to real life problems & solutions. Not there. Plz use the help files in Books Online to look up topics THEN examine the same topic in this book at a local bookstore BEFORE buying it. ... Read more

Is Amazon Pulling a Fast One?
Surprise! I'm reviewing Amazon. Your reviews for Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Learning Edition discuss the compiler that comes with the books, so people would naturally assume the compiler is included with the used books you're selling. It is NOT INCLUDED. Site visitors must click on details to learn that. Look, I know you don't have nearly enough billions yet to satisfy you, but play fair. Tell visitors on the review page that the compiler, the most important element in the reviews, is NOT part of the package.
Excellent Resource
This package has EVERYTHING that you will need to learn V.B. 6.0 and compile executable programs on your own.The step-by-step manual goes at a good pace for someone with little programming experience.The programmer's guide book and MSDN Help Library have the information necessary for those going beyond the 'Basic'.

An Excellent Resource for Those New to VB.
I found this book extremely helpful.I am a professor at Houghton College and purchased this book to write software for the genetics course that I teach.I had no prior experience in Visual Basic, although I have just taken a course in C++.The Step by Step guide is very helpful to orient users toward the visual basic environment, and has chapters on the syntax of the language itself, which is something I really needed.There are numerous helpful programs that come on the CDs, and I found the book extremely readable.In short, I highly recommend this book for its clarity and thoroughness. ... This book sucks
First of all, the CD did not have all of the Practice Files I need to actually USE the book. Second, the features it runs through are so basic as to be useless to anyone who has ever used Word, Excel, etc. There's nothing on how to creat mail merges in Word, for example. This was a complete waste of $20. Only buy this crummy book if you know absolutely NOTHING about Word, Excel, etc.

A Good Starting Point
Take a quick dip into Microsoft Office 2003 with the well-organized lessons in Step by Step. I specifically purchased the book to learn how to use FrontPage. Within one week, I had my web site published online. The next week, I was able to use the Access lessons to set up files for my customers and customer inquiries. Within a few more days, I was enhancing my web site with educational PowerPoint presentations.
Not a lookup book for people in a hurry
I feel I was misled when I purchased this book (or maybe I was half asleep and didn't read the book description carefully enough). "Microsoft Office 2003 Step by Step" is a tutorial. It covers all the Office programs, but it does so with the idea that you can learn the programs best by getting hands-on instructions for using them. You won't find much commentary, much advice, or many tips or tricks. You will find a CD with raw data and a number of step-by-step lessons to help you gain experience with the Office programs.

Best reference guide for designing your SQL Server database
This guide not only provides references on SQL Server syntax, but also contains a brief review of best practices with database design. Includes all normal forms with database normalization, indexing, and data integrity.

BestIT Book I Ever Read
This book is an amazingly clear and concise book, especially for the "non-gurus" among us.The explanations of general topics like normalization, the history of markup languages (in the XML section) are so well written you could give them to management and even they would understand what you are doing (maybe that's not such a good idea).Full of tidbits like why transaction logs grow so much faster than data files.Nielson writes about SQL Server 2000 as used in the real world, not just as an interesting piece of technology.Bravo!I would give it 10 stars if I could.I leave nitpicking to the gurus.

Great book. Got something for everybody
You got to know the basics of Visual Basic before using this book. This book is a very good reference for learning Visual Basic 2005 and also for the advanced developer. It's good for beginners when you are in the stage of "How do I do this...". It's also includes updates for VB6 programmer who are upgrading to Visual Basic 2005 alerting them about the code breaking changes in Visual Basic 2005. The problems discussed are real-world that you may have faced or will face in your development.

Let down by poor production.
Well written, but the publisher has let the author down with a poor index and even a poor table of contents that lacks subheadings, making it hard to look up previous definitions.Also black text on a stippled grey background was a poor choice for code listings (just a box around them would have been fine).

Just a great book
I have purchased a lot of computer books over the years but this one has been one of the best books I have come across.It is not 1200 pages, it has no cute pictures or colored pages at all for that matter.It is not trending to those who have an attention span of 10 seconds with all sorts of visual cues and boxes.It is a solid well thought out book on programming.It has the best sample programs that I remember coming across.It is concise, and informative covering all the major topics.While the title is about visual studio 2005, the book is about programming in C#.Visual studio comes in late in the book, as it should, as a tool to program with.

Must have for C#programmers - Real Life Examples
I don't knowJeffery personally but I know Jeffery by his blog and now, his book.I can say this book covers topics that programmers come across more in a real-world environment, rather than focusing on those topics that you really don't use much in an OOP shop.

This is a must have book for anyone doing COM programming.The great Don Box is a brilliant developer and an excellent writer.This book covers all aspects of COM and gives the reader the critical information that is clouded by the Microsoft tools.

Is COM really this complicated?
After reading this book, only two possibilities exist.Either Don Box has made COM more difficult than it needs to be, or it really is this difficult.

GREAT book for learning excel and Finance
I really enjoyed using this book. The author did a great job of explaining the topics...well wortht the time and price.

Not disappointed at all
Great book, step by step approach, but still requires basic knowledge of Excel's core functions. The CD provided is definitely a plus.

No access to Excel files for eBook version

WHERE'S THE ACCOMPANYING CD????
Beware, the book may be good, I just start reading it, but I can't look at the examples from the "accompanying cd" because Amazon hasn't made it available to me. I've written them 3 times and still no answer. Buy this book from the bookstore. Also, this ebook is very restrictive. I don't know if I can view it from other computers and it only allows me to copy 10 selections in 7 days, after that no more cutting and pasting.....beware of the limitations. I give this 1 star, not for content but for delivery and restrictions. spearsjunk@hotmail.com

Very Useful
I'm an engineer who uses Project in my work and this book has been a great help. Every time I've had a problem getting the software to do what I wanted this book has provided a clear and consise explanation that helped me get through the problem. I'd recommend it to anyone who uses Project for major projects and doesn't have time to waste finding an answer on how to get the software to do what you want it to.

e-books a nightmare, beware the pdf e-book format!

Maguire is my hero
This is hands down, my favorite book on software engineering. If you care at all about writing quality code, you should read this book. The examples are in C, but the concepts (defensive programming, code that detects bugs, etc.) apply to any language. I read this book early in my career, and have re-read it nearly every year since. The used copies are 8 bucks, and the book is worth 10 times that in practical knowledge.

Please ignore previous negative reviews
I was shocked to see this book get some negative reviews. Those that blasted Microsoft missed the point. This book provides invaluable advice in a quick read. For example, "If you have to look it up, the code is not obvious," or, "If you find yourself designing a function so that it returns an error, stop and ask yourself whether there's any way you can redfined the function to eliminate the error condition." This is the book that convinced me to single-step all my code. The heuristics on proactive bug prevention, which are summarized in the appendix by the way, will save your team time and let you move on to adding features rather than fighting fires.

Just look at the publishing date.
You are looking at a 10-year-old book with a bunch of green screens on the cover. What more can I say. I bought it in preparation for an interview with Microsoft. I did not find it helpful, except for a few pages that do help understand Microsoft culture (but you can learn much more about that on the net). Read more

Beginning InfoPath 2003
Wow!I am elated.This is great self help book. Mr. Barker, the author did an excellent job.His methodology is awesome. I was able to teach myself. By the Way, I had to learn this application in one week and I am happy to report I now know the basics after a few hours, I am up to chapter nine.Also, the forum is great for answers at [...].
Does a good job getting you started with InfoPath...
Those who are reading this review on my blog must be wondering if I've ditched my Notes/Domino roots and migrated to the dark side.The answer is no.I just wanted to know a bit more about InfoPath.To do that, I got a copy of Beginning InfoPath 2003 by F. Scott Barker.If I were inclined to start working with the product, this would offer a good start.

Outstanding
This book has been tremendously helpful to me.If you ever have reason to pull data from a SQL database into Excel, you really owe it to yourself to read this book.In addition to being packed with great information, it is a very easy read.It is one of the few books out there that has something to offer to users of all experience levels.Highly, highly recommended.

Excellent Book!!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in -- or who needs to learn about -- PivotTables, as well as Excel reporting in general. The coverage in this book is comprehensive, providing information on Excel report topics that just isn't available in most other books.

The MS Query Program is one of Microsoft's best-kept secrets.It is almost impossible to find *thorough* documentation, much less good examples of how to use it.

An excellent business guide.
Excel users may already be aware of the power of pivot tables, which allow summarization of 50,000 rows of data with one click of the mouse - but many user's guides don't begin to touch upon its powerful features. PIVOT TABLE DATA CRUNCHING provides a tutorial which promises users and prior Excel fans the ability to get up to speed quickly, using real-world examples such as how to highlight productivity channels and produce meaningful reports. An excellent business guide.

I expected more on MsQuery and how to whit large Pivot Table.
Excellent book for novices, probably not the one for experienced users.
I am familiar with pivot tables, but bought this book to enable me to hit the ground running at my new job that requires pivot table skills. The book was very easy to follow, unlike many Excel how-to books, and there are plenty of screen shots to check your progress.I would recommend this book to those in similar situations to mine, but it does not seem appropriate for those who have consirable experience with pivot tables. ...
