    1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless........for some
Stupid book, stupid class, waste of time.Unless you are totally, 100% computer illiterate.I have a friend from Arkansas named Shawn, who didn't even know how to turn the computer on (literally), who used this book and is now typing his own personal letterheads and using all the Microsoft programs taught in this book to their full extent. He woulda given it 5 stars if maybe I found some use for it other than starting fires, making patties, disposable coasters, etc.3-0 out of 5 stars Exploring Microsoft Office 2000 Professional, v. 1
Well laid out, high physical quality, effectively written text good for teaching pure beginners how to use this tool [and even v.1 has some tips for those who are experienced] with lots of useful exercises. What limitsthis to 3 stars is the fact that OUTLOOK 2000 is not covered in any waywhatsoever, despite the fact that it is an essential part of OFFICE whichis heavily used in many organizations. The index also proved lacking whenI wanted to find out about 'speaker's notes' in POWER POINT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't come across anything this can't answer for me...
It's about time MS put out a reference set that covers the most important topics, not abstract one's. I like this reference set alot so far because of it's thurough coverage of the Document Object Models (DOM) for Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. I haven't gone through the whole thing yetbut the only left for me to find is where they talk more about automation, something pretty much left out of the Office 97 reference set. Overallthough, this is a great set of books to have at your disposal. It hasalready helped me come up with solutions for the custom-businessapplications and macros I create. There is also alot of material thatwasn't in the last series. A great asset to any company with VB or VBAprogrammers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!Finally Help for the Office Developer
I've been working with MS Office 2000 for several months. The extended Object Models have become more powerful for the end user, but more complicated for the developer.I recently purchsed this set of books.Wow!What a difference. This library unfolds all the mysteries of theMicrosoft Office 2000 suite as well as some very helpful guidelines forVisual Basic for Applications (VBA).With these books, I've been ablethough to walk through examples, and create customized solutions for myusers. Can't wait for the sequel!Well worth the money.I expect toreap benefits ten-fold over the costs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most invaluable references I have in my library
I'll keep this brief, as my title says it all.I have been developing access applications on a professional level for many years.Have several applications that large companies use to run there business. This cookbook has helped me in more ways then I can count.I wish I could find more like it.I use it just as a cookbook.Look thru to find a similiar situation that I am trying to solve. The examples are written very well. The code is very exact and on the money. While most of the examples listed are not always exactly like what I'm trying to solve, it definitely gets the creative juices flowing on how to solve my problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Recipes for Access Developer Success
The Access Developer's Handbook Set (search ISBN: 0782140114) and in particular, Volume 1: Desktop Edition (search ISBN: 0782123708) is my definitive resource to approximately 4 years of Access development.I've got more stickies and highlights in this set than all other Access books combined. So when I came across the Access cookbook and realized that the same two indispensible authors (Getz & Litwin) put together a resource of Access developer solutions, I had to have it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Access Developers.. this is a must have!
When I started my job, my first assignment was develop several Access databases. What they wanted was beyond what I knew of Access. After buying this book and Access Database Programming and Design, I was well on my way to develop a quite advanced Access database application. I would ask myself, "I wonder if I can..." After consulting this book for the anwser, BAM! I found it there. This book covers everything from simple VBA to advanced techniques such as incorporating a email system into a database, linked dropdown combo boxes using SQL, and creating VB Form control that tells you who all is currently in a database using ADO and VBA! I would say anyone wanting to cook a mean Access database should definitely pick this one up. It is an invaluable reference if you want to develop professional Access databases with incredible functionality! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book for self-learner
My boss asked me to develop a leave system. I have no experience about Access VBA before. I bought a lot of books. However most of them are too thick and theoretical. No step by step examples are provided. Fortunately after reading this one, I can finish my task now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Access 2000 with Visual Basic for Applications

5-0 out of 5 stars Among the best books on Excel VBA
"Writing Excel Macros with VBA" is an excellent book on the use of VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) for Microsoft Excel.Steven Roman provides a significant amount of information in a relatively short volume.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
This is a very specialized book with a very specialized core audience and this text does what it says it does -- teach you how to write Excel Macros using VBA.Nothing too exciting here folks, very dry reading that is a necessary reference if you need to have more control over Excel than the everyday user does.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mr Roman's book is very good value.
Mr Roman is an extremely competent and clear writer. This book, whilst not as big as some, doesn't waste space with any padding, and boring repititious stuff you see in some texts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office @2000 -ShellyCashman Series Book
The book itself is very good. I would recommend it to those who are just starting to learn and for those who need to brush up on their skills or use as a desk reference. I did not like the "ring -binder" form as it seems flimsy and already was looking used when I got it due to shipping. I would suggest the other form for future reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book just skip the first chapters about computers!!!
The book is great but it is written for people who never had experience with computers. So I would advise anyone to skip those intial chapters. I highly recommend getting the spiral bound edition because the book is about the size of a major city's Yellow Pages and it is easier to handle.

I would disagree with many people on this book due to the fact that this book is very helpful on using codes and debugging tools although its a definition guide on computer programming inwindows 2000it can teach you a lot of details on programming it is more like a beginners guide using many symbols and differnt codes this book is more of a book for people wanting to learn how to write files store files also deals with rewritting web pages or possibley a guide on how to develop folders spreadsheets graphs and many othe features i would say this book is really great for anyone wanting to learn c programming in windows environment as well as in the assembly language or DOS enviroment; although this bookdoes not teach you assembly language programming it is a way to start learning assembly language programming1

2-0 out of 5 stars Falls short in creating realistic applications
I would agree with the review that states the authors were working side-by-side with the office development team as this book was written. However, I would disagree that such close input was entirely helpful. While the information contained in this book is a nice introduction to how things are "supposed" to work, as with so much of Microsoft's software, things never quite work the way they were designed, unless of course, you're doing exactly what the folks at Microsoft assumed you would do.Not only do some examples in this book fail to work, most examples are simple and obvious, the kind of thing a person might generate from looking at Microsoft's help information.Often they illustrate how the designers assumed their software would work. They often fail to demonstrate what the software can do--or much more important--how to get around the artificial limitations set by Microsoft. Some simple examples involve such basic building blocks as dialog boxes and menus (commandbars in Micro-speak).Some built-in dialog boxes have over a dozen arguments, but try finding out what those arguments do from either this book or from Microsoft's help information. As for the commandbars, even the examples from the book fail to work.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Office-wide book
It's very hard to find a book on VBA that isn't based in one application, and doesn't begin at the 'Hello World' level. This book does neither. Instead it provides a good introduction to the object models of the Office applications, and includes well-written code examples. The breadth of content is impressive--from shared Office components to class modules. What a pity it's out of print! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Resource for Beginner to Intermediate Users
I ordered Microsoft Excel 2000: Step by Step to aid myslef in becoming more acclimated in the Excel platform.I have made spreadsheets and charts before using Excel 95 & 97, but it had been some time since I last employed Excel. Also, I never claimed to be the Excel Master that others profess to be.That's why I purchased this book - to not only make me proficient with Excel, but to bolster my abilities so that I will pass the Microsoft User Specialist Excel Master exam and become a Certified Excel Master and receive my pretty little certificate in the mail.5-0 out of 5 stars You will learn Excel with this book
This book will get you up and running with using Excel in no time. From the sizes of other books out there, this book does not cover everything, but it is excellent for beginners of Excel. The book covers macros and explains VBA, which would be the next thing for you to learn if you want to unleash the power of Excel to a higher level. Some other notable topics covered are pivot tables and charts, and the book has many useful tips for getting things done quickly such as generating lists, picking from lists, and covers many other tips for reducing typing in data entry. 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for MsAccess programmers
Daily employed subjects, very good explaineds and an useful INDEX to found what you need. That is aplicable to the whole serie "Access xxx Developer's Handbook". I own all of them!. The best books about MsAccess.

5-0 out of 5 stars DAO/ADO Why didn't they use some different letters?
Microsoft had the guts to simply stop DAO code in place(3.6 is it) and it was such an ugly mess to use to write client server applications that its just as well. Now there's ADO, which is like RDO (which you could onlyget by buying Visual Basic, Professional Edition, but now RDO is no longerbeing developed or improved), and ADO is also like PowerBuilder in itssyntax and function, primarily in using a universal and extremely flexibleconnection object to link to the data source.5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Enterprise Book Ever!
Anyone who's ever purchased one of the Access Developer Handbooks will find this incredible Enterprise Edition is a must have! The code samples on the CD alone are worth the cost of the book. The writing is clear and thorough and the samples are excellent and (so far) bug free.Read more

VERY EXCELLENT RESPONSE FROM SUPPLIER AND THE PROGRAM IS WHAT THE USER NEEDED.

3-0 out of 5 stars Might be ok for some users
Charts are not given much coverage. Chart data is not given much coverage. From a programmer's point of view, simple excel vba object graphs and explanations of properties would be more helpful. Some examples come straight from the MSDN Office developer sections. I really wish authors would refrain from the cut and paste of the MSDN. Consumers of this type of material are looking for more than MSDN help files. All that said....5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant Resource
I have found this book to be absolutely fantastic.I am not sure it is for the beginner, but for someone who has a little knowledge of VB it is an excellant refresher. The book is well written and seems to flow in a logical sequence. It is very easy to understand and examples are plentiful.I have been tinkering with macros in Excel for about a year and the book is bringing VBA and Excel together for me.I have have already cut some of the coding in my modules in half by using the techniques found in the book. This book is definitely going to be come one of my major references when it comes to using VBA in Excel.I have certainly gotten my money's worth out of this book and will be looking for other books written by John Walkenbach. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not the Bible!!
The book claims to be the Bible, which to me means that it is the authority on the subject...it isnt! To its credit, the book does cover a lot of material and gives you a basic understanding of the components of Access. However the major problem is that the book offers very few examples. There is a CD that comes with the book, but why do I need to reference a CD for every detai?! In fact the CD isn't referenced much in the book at all.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not solution oriented enough
I've been using this for a few weeks and like the accompanying CD which allows you to search the entire book easily. What I don't like is that too often I found myself struggling to find solutions that existed but were not documented.Like what do you do when you've set up a report and want to add a field that's not on the Field List. The trick is to go back and expand the query the report is based on to include that field but you won't find that in here.Instead you might (as I did) struggle with Text Boxes that allow you to build expressions based on the field you want, but you come up with an error message. Also they are so proud of their sample database that you find yourself having to go into it all the time to understand their explanations.I find myself, instead, turning to Access's online help for much of what I should find more nicely explained in this book, both with and without the examples.

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
This book is so riddled with errors, I can't believe it was published.Bad grammar, mislabled pictures, erroneous statements -- you name it. Wiley should be embarrassed to have put out a book this shabby. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference
This book is very good for learning your way around Excel and its formulas.I am fairly comfortable in Excel and still found the book extremely useful. There are many formulas that are explained which I did not know existed that have made me much more efficient within the program.

1-0 out of 5 stars An Exctract From the Author's "Excel Bible"

2-0 out of 5 stars extremely poor excuse for an expository book
I do all my serious mathematical work with Mathematica. However since some of my collegues use Excel for simple data presentation and analysis, I've recently started using Excel to be able to converse with my collegues.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginner's but good
Those with no programming experience should not buy this book. It is helpful in the very detailed examples of what Excel VBA can do for you.The last chapter on Pivot Tables seems a little out of step with the rest of the book. Also, the theory behind what you are doing is not explored so it is a bit superficial. But, as far as getting your feet wet, this is a great place to start.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
The book does not do a good job with the fundamentals of VBA. Very brief in its explanation of objects, properties, and methods. Gives plenty of examples but often refers you to Excel help to find out more info about a particular item. If I wanted to do that I would not have bought the book. Very disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars trs bon livre de dpart
... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Lacking in details....bigtime!
This book (being returned to Amazon) has less information on the fine points of creating personal preferences than does theapplication's built in help menu. It assumes that every user had just come from the previous version of Word. Coming from Word 5.1a (Macintosh) I might as well have been arriving from Mars. The book lacks essential detailof each operation in which I was interested. A new user would do best to stay away from both this book and Word and opt for a simpler program.5-0 out of 5 stars MICROSOFT WORD 2000 (STEP BY STEP)
THIS IS THE BOOK FOR FIRST TIME OR BRUSH-UP USERS WHO WANT TO GET A LITTLEMORE SUBSTANCE OUT OF THEIR EFFORTS IN A REASONABLY SHORT TIME. A MEDIUMAMOUNT OF WORDINESS, CLEAR PRECISE PROCEDURAL GUIDING, AND CLEAR B&WSCREEN PRESENTATION. THOUGH COLOR WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTRA NICE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it.You won't regret it.
If you're brand new to web page authoring like myself, the "Bible" is an excellent guide.I bought it on the strength of a review here at Amazon....Everything "ep"wrote on that review is true. The Quick Start Book is exactly what it is -a quick start, and it's good.It helped me quickly understand the basicsof FrontPage 2000.4-0 out of 5 stars Don't ever touch the software
This book is good, but the problem lies in the application software itself. Frontpage is the worst ever happens to me. If I'd known Dreamweaver, I'd never had spent 2 weeks learning the Frontpage. You'd lovethe bible series if you're a beginner, but if you want something moreadvanced, then look else where.

The book was listed as 'Good Condition' and arrived in a very short time in what I can only describe as 'Excellent Condition' I am very pleased with the book, delivery, and service.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for all.
Overall, I found this book jam packed with a little bit of info on everytopic necessary but I felt like it spent more time DESCRIBING the featuresand EXPLAINING WHY they were important instead of giving HANDS-ONINSTRUCTIONS.The book called "Quick Course in Microsoft Publisher2000" by Joyce Cox and Christina Dudley (ISBN: 1582780072) was morehelpful for me.I acknowledge that each person has a different style oflearning. If you need specific hands-on instruction, go with Quick Course. If you need to understand the big picture first, go with the Dummies book. Good luck! ... Read more
