5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory book for Networks
It's a great introduction to networking, with details about LAN, Backbones, and WAN architectures. It is also easy to read and Understand.

2-0 out of 5 stars Almost, but not quite there.....
I purchased this book for a class I was taking. It was the required text for the class.I have 15 years experience in network design and administration and recently returned to school to earn a second degree.I found this text to be overly technical for its intended audience, and would not recommend it to any instructor. Also the accompanying test bank from which an instructor can pull quiz/test questions are absolutely horrible and only serve to confuse students trying to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Book is excellent, price is not. I lucked out and found it at Job Lot for 6.99 brand new. I bought two books there for $14, would have cost me $90 at the book stores. So shop around for a better price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the exam, Excellent as a review.
This book starts at the beginning of what a new networking engineer needs to know and works through several examples of how this works in the real world today. It covers TCP/IP, AppleTalk, IPX, X25, Frame Relay, and more, if you count the appendicies.Unsurprisingly, it's also the best study guide for the CCNA.The writing is vague in places, but on the whole a review of the state of technology this clear is remarkable.

5-0 out of 5 stars I passed the CCNA exam using this book.
I used this book to help me pass the CCNA exam on my first attempt. I found the explanations in this book to be a big help in remembering the CCNA material. I also used the CCNA Virtual Lab e-trainer to practice usingthe Cisco IOS commands. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Want to learn all about Exchange and Outlook?
I have to disagree with the reviewer who says there is not a lot of depth in this book.Sure, the author does leave out some topics but he clearly states that they can either really mess up Outlook or that they are not supported by Microsoft which can get you into trouble down the road.Otherwise, this book is the bible for Exchang and Outlook development bar none.I origianlly got it to learn how to integrate our corporate CRM system with Outlook (our sales reps live in Outlook!).The book is well written, has lots of samples and gave me the kick start I needed to get my job done.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
This is a good example of a book written by an author who just wanted to "write" and finish a book. I doubt if the author really knows the subject.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
After purchasing this book and skimming through all of it while reading the sections I was interested in more thoroughly (VBScript and Custom Forms), and then going through everything a 2nd time, I was extremely disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars As the title suggets...
This book provides crucial information on the EDI - XML link that connects supply chain mgmt with RFID. Book provides an insight on the backone technologies that run today's supply chain management. RFID section is brief, it provides a nice overview of the RFID's potential future impact on the Supply Chain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on developments in Supply Chain technology
Nahid Jilovec, a recognized expert in Supply Chain technology, has written an excellent briefing on the new developments in the space. For anyone interested in subjects such as Electronic Data Interchange over the internet, new EDI standards and new applications of technologies such as RFID this book will provide a thorough overview how the technologies are used and the benefits they provide.I recommend it highly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific primer on a complicated subject
I just finished reading this book and recommend it enthusiastically to anybody interested in how B2Bs and extended enterprises must work in the future. The book is broken down into 3 parts: Part 1 explains how B2Bs interact and how trust plays a critical role, Part 2 discusses the concept of e-Trust and business processes by industry, and Part 3 discusses e-infrastructure, security, and controls on a more technical level.Overall, the author manages to provide clear and comprehensive coverage on an exremely challenging, constantly evolving subject. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Sybex falls tragically short this time
Sybex normally has a reputation of being THE book to study to prepare for your exam of choice.Unfortunately this one falls well below of my expectations.I've been in the IT industry for a few years now, and even I found this book to be a difficult read. Many times, the elements presented dont follow a logical sequence, making it necessary to flip back and forth among chapters to gain the proper perspective. This book often calls reference to items you'll learn in future chapters, which can be confusing when the authors throw acronyms at you that you dont understand.
2-0 out of 5 stars Too many errors
I purchased the first edition of this book nearly two years ago (before the Deluxe Edition) to prepare for the MCDST certification. Unfortunately, I found that many of the 100+ excercises were missing procedural steps or were just flat out wrong (ex. page 360/excercise 9.4). Usually after discovering that a study guide is full of errors and vague explanations I toss the book aside along with anything else ever written by the author. But I have examined other study guide material written by Bill Ferguson and I am convinced he is a competent instructor. I guess the editors of the first edition were in a rush to meet the release date for the 1st edition and did a cursory reading of the manuscript. Hopefully, the errors of the 1st edition have been corrected in the revised Deluxe Edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, for the price
The MCDST Study Guide is a good value for the money.I would like to see more questions at the end of the chapters and for them to show more print screens of the topics instead of just telling you that you will need to know this for the exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy Gottinger's book instead
This is a very interesting book that covers the full range of network industries - and is in many ways a welcome addition to the literature.4-0 out of 5 stars Network economics in one solid and compact book
This is an original academic textbook for network economics. Oz Shy starts the book by making some reasonable claims on his discipline at large: scientific papers in economics are too technical and use unnecessary amounts of calculus. Though the book is very analytical and covers a wide scope of issues, prerequisites are at a considerably low level. Because the book uses game theory and logical reasoning instead of calculus, it is accessible to readers with different backgrounds. This book will be in good use at least with the students of economics and engineering.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very relevant for anyone designing WebServices
Component modeling, analysis of information exchanges, and
4-0 out of 5 stars explains well SOA, Web Services and semantics
The book is a refreshingly understandable approach to explaining Service Oriented Architecture, Web Services and the Semantic Web. Other texts often drown the reader in hugely verbose XML examples. But here, the authors achieve clarity in discussing the essence of the above concepts. The XML snippets are clear, without being overly long.
5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Practical
Document Engineering is a practical exploration of the role documents play in the nexus of contracts that drive modern businesses. The interdisciplinary approach put forward here, taking document engineering out of the realm of pure software engineering, is eye opening and provides some real insight into what it takes to make Service Oriented Architectures work in the real world. This is an absolute must read book for anyone seriously considering developing an XML based document integration strategy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It is what I use to teach the class.
Whether or not you pursue the CCNP certification router configuration is something that is a key to ensuring that your network is safe from the outside and the safety of the data is a prime concern of any network administrator.2-0 out of 5 stars very much lacking
This book could have been much, much more than it ended up.I bought it without having read any kind of review and I definitely regret it.After having read a far superior book on ACRC (Semester Five Companion Guide), I have to say that this book lacks too much in detail for the price. There are numerous errors (which you can view errata on the Cisco Press web site, it's massive) in this book as well that can confuse the reader tremendously.I only buy Cisco Press books, but had this been my first, I may have reconsidered.Mark McGregor did a much better job writing the Academy curriculum.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect distillation of XPath and XSL into a pocket-size book
This book represents an amazing feat of distilling all you really need
4-0 out of 5 stars If you need a quick reference, this one works well...
XSLT is one of those technologies that takes awhile to get the hang of.Once you've learned the basics, you'll end up needing to refer back to reference material often. One way to make that process a bit quicker would be to have a copy of Even Lenz's XSLT 1.0 Pocket Reference on hand...
4-0 out of 5 stars Handy for XSLT, not great on XPath
This is a handy little pocket book that covers the essentials of XSLT. It's far better than the stuff you will find on the W3C site, and it won't break your back like Michael Kay's excellent, but hefty, work. I have to ding it a little for lack of a complete reference on XPath. There is certainly information about the functions, but I would have like to have seen more depth on it. And the XPath appendix wasn't helpful. A language definition is definitely not what I was looking for there. Some common examples of XPath usage would be great. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well-written, informative book
Initially I was surprised to find no reviews for this book, consideringthe fact that it is widely used as a text in the schools. This book was arecommended text for my graduate course in "Electronic DesignAutomation". I have read the text, as well as, solved few problems inthe exercises. Based on these qualifications, I think this book is verygood. It starts with the basics and goes onto explain the advancedalgorithms used in design automation. It gives a comprehensive coverage ofthe subject. For avid problem solvers, the exercises present a challengingoppurtunity. I highly recommend this book for any student of digitalcircuit design. But, advanced readers may find some topics (especially, formal methods) missing in this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not-a-Great Review
The first 60 pages of this book are all that's really worthwhile.Although the author is given to some overly dramatic hyperbole and lists all the terrible things that will happen if you're not using EDI, the first 60 pages contain a few helpful hints.2-0 out of 5 stars This book is not for programmer
This book doesn't contain any information for the developer who has to get into the problem quickly. And there is no sign that deep exploration of it will give more useful information. This book is for a complete dummy but I can't see how reading it will help him.

1-0 out of 5 stars A total waste of time and money
I have seen thinly veiled product hype books before but this one takes the cake. They spend more time on "Trading Partner Software" than on the actual EDI specs. Then the authors push off the actual EDI specs that the software DOES accomodate to an appendix that is less readable than the public specs. Unfortunately I paid for the book, but you can bet it is already in the box and being returned! ... Read more
