Perfect for small projects!
Note: SPSS 13.0 for Windows Student Version cannot open data files containing more than 50 variables or 1,500 cases. Having said that, if you have less than 50 variables and 1,500 cases to deal with then this is the software for you. It came with a (brief) 227-page users guide that was pretty comprehensive all by itself. Order the SPSS 13.0 Guide to Data Analysis to go with it, and you have just about everything you need to fiddle with and learn the basics of statistical analysis.

Excellent for SPSS and statistics students
I have used this product in a research methods class and found it to perform quite well.While it may not have all the features of the full SPSS package it is more than adequate and does not require the student to pay the hefty fee of the full version.

Very disappointed
Beware - if you buy the student version it is not big enough to run the files necessary that you work on in class. Nowhere did it indicate on the Amazon site that it had limits of file size. Wouldn't one assume that if you are selling a "student" verson, that it will be able to run your school files?Don't buy it if you are a college student and need this software to complete your projects. I wasted $80 plus dollars. Didn't learn of its limitations until AFTER I loaded it, and when it wouldn't work found the limitation statement in the manual. Very disappointed. ... Read more

I think the Step by Step sharePoint book is an exellent book for the for the first time users

Not good enough
I'm afraid that I was not as impressed as the other reviewers.The book failed to mention that you need to have InfoPath installed to run some of the exercises.There is little of how a real world configuration might look.It does give some "click the screen" simulations of what the program might do.But then, you could get the same thing by installing it yourself.
A great introduction to using sharepoint services
If you have never used Microsoft's SharePoint Services, then this is a good book for you.

An excellent reference for System Administrators
Power UNIX and Linux users will want to expand their skills. It's inevitable. Some will get frustrated and drop out and some will work their way through it.
Great reference, full of examples, for all UNIX/Linux/BSD users
At first glance, this book seems like a typical O'Reilly book: a narrow title, rich in material, and is beneficial to a much wider audience than the title reveals. It covers a wide range of system administration subjects and goes way beyond just the essentials.

This book is for the reader that wants to move beyond the basic, high level overview Unix book and truly understand the Unix system and why it invokes passion from it's fan base. Excellent bible for the bumbling novice
First I need to give a nod to "Gunny", the reviewer who convinced me to purchase this book: Thank you!This is truly the best Illustrator guide available for beginners, who need to find their painful path through the inscrutable thicket of Illustrator, who need to get a graphic project done, quickly.
Excellent, As Usual
Visual Quick Start Guides and I were introduced in college. Each one I have used is: supremely instructive, light to nonexistent on self absorbed asides (a blessed relief), and meaty...very meaty. The paper isn't glossy, the images aren't in color, you get no adorable photos of the author with their children frolicking on the sands of Southern California. But you get information about how to use Adobe products (and anything else you want to tackle) so that you, in your miserable Midwestern hovel, far from the smiling shores of the Pacific rim, can accomplish your tasks for your demanding and sniffy clients and get paid, and not go to the poor house! Tres cool, no?

Give you clear look of little giant
This book gives you the bird-eye view of the world's renowned photo management software, it has some useful information for amateur photographer who is intended to use iPhoto software, written in plain english. It is little interesting that one-thirds of the entire book contents are cover how to choose the right digital camera and how to take a good shot, of course, you don't have to worry since its another two-thirds of pages are fulled about some kind of "soft" thing, which is about acquire, manage, tag, retouch and share or archive your pictures.

Good exam preparation support!
I used this book in addition to RedHat's instructor led training, and managed to pass the test on my first try with a score of over 90%!

A great book for the RHEL 3 exam
Having been in a management position for a while I was a bit rusty and felt I didn't have the current hands on experience required to sit this exam directly.I used this book as prep for the 4 day Red Hat Boot camp leading up to the RHCE exam.It covered the topics required for the exam quite well, despite some obvious typos (Whatever you read, you should read critically anyway. IMHO)
Great Exam Prep
I wish I could say I had finished the book and passed the RHCE, but I am still a month or two away. Still, I have advanced my Linux knowledge significantly and am having a blast. Of the 6 or so Linux books I own, this is the best and should have been the first. Bloody awesome
I took my test today and came close to maxing out, 972....study hard the reviews at the end of the book. When taking the test, read the questions AND answers carefully, kind of like the old school days, an answer may "look" right but it could be one word off. Keep the books, don't resell them, I've already gone back into 70-271 and reviewed a few things. handy to have on hand when you deal with it every day.Very thorough in my opinion. Just a humble IT geek working on his certs.....

WOW Great deal and Super Helpful
I just took this certification and found out that some of test questions were the same as the back of this book.If you go through the test bank in the back of the book and go through the lessons your sure to pass.The book also comes with 180 day trials of xp pro sp2 and office 2003 professional.Not to meantion you get a voucher for 15% off the exam.I will warn you that some of the exam questions are very easy and others are super tricky.

Act Quickly
This book came with a free trial of Office 2003. (The book for the 70-271 exam has the XP Pro trial as stated in the editorial review) When I tried to install the free trial it had already expired. Apparently, the free trial begins when the book is purchased, and not when the software is installed. Therefore, if you wait to install it you will not get the full 180 days, and the 180 days includes the time it takes to ship the book to you. I really needed the free trial. I was saving it until I needed it, and I ended up buying Office Professional 2003 instead. Oh well, the book gets a 3 anyways because it needs supplemental material to prepare for the exam. Book is kind of outdated
Book is based on 2.4 kernel. Since we are currently at 2.6 kernel this book does seem to have outdated information

Good guide
It would be a good guide to a person to prepare for a project to develop embedded linux system.It gives you the information what is necessar, what is work well and how to get them. Butyou should have some experience on linux language.
disappointed
I read this book in about 2 hours and the contents really disappoint me.I expected the book to discuss in details of the issues related to embedded linux.And to a degree, this book is like a dictionary of all the terms you might encounter during the development and only a few direct examples.And given how fast the Linux kernel, open source packages evolve over time, the examples given in this book is totally outdated.

SBS2003 R2 - direct, pertinent, useful
I found this book to be an excellent one volume resource on the variety of features and functionality offered in SBS.
Companion book for even non R2ers
While this book is called the SBS 2003 R2 companion book, and is indeed a companion to the R2 product, even if you don't have R2, but merely SBS 2003 SP1, this is an excellent resource and should actually be purchased instead of the original SBS companion book.The "must have" features for non R2 owners include the chapters on setting up secure wireless and the ISA content.The "must have" stuff for R2 era owners obviously include the WSUS information.

Not a reference but a walk though book
I didn't find this book useful for finding what I'm looking for fast. Commands and Linux Topics are scattered about the book in different section. The directory and index had little use for finding what I'm looking for, a quick web search turned up faster focused results. This book touches the surface in order to get a novice going but thats about it.

linux informative
This is a good book for the linux "newbie" or someone who is famaliar with other flavors of linux and want to brush up on this new version of Fedora.The book gets really in depth but I realized that everything I was looking for was already self explanatory on the desktop.The core linux command line stuff isn't there but you should buy a book that contains that information before tackling a server build first anyway.
Unleashed books still the best!
just wanted to say how impressed I have been with the Unleashed series of books, I worked on an old Linux unleashed book years ago and lately I have been training SuSE and RedHat courses for a Novell platinum partner training company in South Africa, I have tried other books like the SuSE bible and have not been very satisfied since they are not comprehensive enough. I bought your book on Fedora 4 unleashed the other day and am pleased to say that it is still the same quality, easy to read and very comprehensive, that is why I recommend the unleashed series of books as the first choice to all my students.When you are in a training environment and you sometimes have very little time to prep a new course, having a book like this take a lot of pressure off you. ... I like Robins ways of teaching, and her book is great. For me it is a bit confusing as I have to keek refering back to other sections. Otherwise great.

Poor effort
Robin Williams usually does a superb job - she's fun to read, has a perspective which is easy for the reader to understand and puts information clearly while not talking down to readers.

Worthless........for some
Stupid book, stupid class, waste of time.Unless you are totally, 100% computer illiterate.I have a friend from Arkansas named Shawn, who didn't even know how to turn the computer on (literally), who used this book and is now typing his own personal letterheads and using all the Microsoft programs taught in this book to their full extent.He woulda given it 5 stars if maybe I found some use for it other than starting fires, making patties, disposable coasters, etc. Exploring Microsoft Office 2000 Professional, v. 1
Well laid out, high physical quality, effectively written text good for teaching pure beginners how to use this tool [and even v.1 has some tips for those who are experienced] with lots of useful exercises.What limitsthis to 3 stars is the fact that OUTLOOK 2000 is not covered in any waywhatsoever, despite the fact that it is an essential part of OFFICE whichis heavily used in many organizations.The index also proved lacking whenI wanted to find out about 'speaker's notes' in POWER POINT.

Good reference for any Windows administrator or planner
The 2003 performance guide was probably one book that's worth the price of this entire package.Mark Friedman, the author of Windows 2000 Performance Guide, wrote this book for resource kit.That explained why he never published a follow-up of his famous 2000 performance book.The other books in the kit were also extremely helpful.This is THE set of reference book to get for authoritative Windows 2003 information.Also included is a disc with all the ebook versions of everything, including some bonus books not in the resource kit.So stop Googling for unreliable second hand information, and get your stingy boss to cough up the money for this must have tool.

This is the ONLY way to learn Sed and Awk
If you want to move from a beginning unix user to a unix power user/shell scripter, you MUST learn sed.I can't count how many install scripts/build scripts/startup scripts/etc. rely on this simple tool.Although sed and awk do seem to naturally complement each other, I tend to view awk as sort of a stripped-down perl (in all fairness, it did come before perl, so perl is a "souped-up awk").That's not to say that awk isn't useful; I constantly find myself using dirt-simple awk scripts to answer questions like, "which hosts are connected on port 80 and how many connections are they holding open right now?"(answer: netstat -nt | awk '{split($4,dst,":");split($5,src,":");if(dst[2] == "80") print src[1]}' | sort | uniq -c).Awk is always there, it's tiny and it's fast.
the best desktop reference
Some good reviews on here -- my only additon is that this book has been the best desktop reference for me. I am constantly referring back to it to answer questions. A MUST HAVE for any novice/intermediate user.

Sed and awk are, as the book adequately puts it, UNIX "powertools". Sed is quite handy and awk is even better. This book presents a breathtaking introduction to both of them, and yet still delves into the more advanced details as it constantly presents exciting and useful examples. Sybex Rocks
Sybex rocks, Mike Myers is also very well written but they don't have the entire book in pdf format or any format for that matter. That makes studying easier. Now all they are missing is to get off their Bill Gates paranoia and let you print from the pdf. Overall it's a great study guide. Five stars would mean I could print the pdf.

Helpful
This book has a lot of really useful information. I highly recommend it if you know nothing of computers. I know a lot of computers, being a computer technician, but this book talks about stuff I would have never figured out.

Cut out the fluff, and beef up the O/S Technologies
I passed both exams relying solely on this book.However, I nearly tanked on the O/S test b/c the book just barely covers Windows XP, which accounts for 60% of the O/S exam (directly or indirectly).And, like someone else pointed out, I would have certainly failed had I not had 5+ years in IT behind me.If you are inexperienced or not sure about yourself, don't rely on this book due to the complex nature of Windows XP.You'll do fine with the hardware, although there is a lot of fluff that would waste your time.For the O/S part though,Windows XP *should* have had its own section in the book with a detailed discussion.Since, this book failed to do it, not to mention the many typos and logical errors of a critical nature, the only recourse for the unfortunate Comptia A+ candidate is to dole out some additional cash for a book dedicated to Windows XP.

great info - terrible editing
This book came so highly recommended it seemed like a sure thing. And in fact, it has a wealth of info on use cases; I can certainly see it being a valuable reference for someone who is already an expert with use cases. For those with no previous exposure, however, it is a tiresome morass to wade through; so cluttered and muddled that finding the underlying meaning becomes a real challenge. This book could have been edited to 2/3rds the size, and been a far better book because of it. Was the editing staff on vacation?

This is the best book i have read on use case modeling. Pitfalls are covered in great detail. The book is well structured. The only negative thing i can think off, if I have to state one, is that the author sometimesgives better definitions of terms in places where you would not expect to find them.
