4-0 out of 5 stars Handy book, but you might need help if you are not technical
When I review Unix books, I come from a totally non-techical perspective. I always look at it from a lay-person's perspective, as someone who has to learn to use Unix because that is the only operating system available to use.
4-0 out of 5 stars the Decent book!
Ok guys this book isn't bad. It is very descriptive and well written. The problem is there's much of water, long blah-blah-blah and so on. It takes too long to start and then looOOoong leaps from one real problem to another. But it is "for dummy" book it supposed to be like that with all explanations back to the beginning.
4-0 out of 5 stars Quick Reference is the strong point
The Quick Reference guide is exactly that. A quick reference to allow you to get specific information about the aspect in UNIX you are having a problem with. I have a couple UNIX books and I find myself coming to this one, because it keeps it in a nutshell. If you are looking for something to "learn" UNIX, I would keep looking, but if you have read the UNIX books and now you need "one" guide to keep at your fingertips, this would be it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There is no better book for new mac users
This is a must-have book for all new Mac users and not only! Don`t waist your time by figuring out everything by yourself or calling up your friend everytime you have a problem - this book will solve most of them and even more. David Pogue is a great, funny writer who helps you make your life easier and love your computer even more !

5-0 out of 5 stars A Common-Sense Book NOT Written for Dummies
David Pogue has a genius for making the seemingly-complex simple enough for the average person to understand. This is the perfect gift for a writer writing about the Macintosh system; once you get over your intimidation about computers by following Pogue's straightforward and sometimes humorous examples, the user-friendliness of the Mac makes itself obvious, and you're on your way. An excellent, useful book for beginner and seasoned user alike!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written, funny, and informative
I read this book a few years ago when I bought a used Mac Plus at a garage sale. Mr. Pogue put me on track with my old computer in a very short time. After a few few months, my relatives and friends were calling me for advice. In many cases I was able to help using what I learned in this book.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the $25 investment
I am a big fan of the other MCSE "dummies", books. This one is good, although it is not quite up to the standards of some of the others. It needs to be augmented with another study guide.Given the price oftranscender tests, it is probably worth the $25 for the practice CD alone, but the book has some shortcomings. For example, the book has only a pageor two on troubleshooting database problems and ODBC driver errors, but Isaw no less than 7 or 8 troubleshooting questions relating to databaseconnectivity on the test.I recommend the book, but I wouldn't expect topass the test using this as my only study guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basically "Ace It! IIS4" with different questions
I just finished writing a review of Iseminger's "Ace It!" for the IIS 4.0 exam, and see no reason to repeat that here -- because they are just about the same book.Certain chapters read exactly the same.Read more
