5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Like most good books dedicated to buying and selling on eBay this book fits that category nicely. It is aimed at the more serious seller and goes into several deep layers on techniques and strategies to make your activities lucrative and profitable. In all I like this book because it does contain a lot of useful information at whatever lengths you decide to take you're your eBay activities. If you want to really get out there in the trenches, this book will accommodate that ambition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real "love-hate" relationship......
That's exactly what this book offers. You'll absolutely love the information the author offers, but you'll also hate yourself for not adding it to your eBay reference library sooner. The information discussed, and revealed, in this book will make you think, explore and create what you have wanted all those months you finally decided to be a successful eBay seller.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for powersellers & advanced users
The title of my review is not meant to suggest that this book won't work for beginners. It simply means that this is a book that ANY eBay user will be able to appreciate, even powersellers who assume there's nothing they can learn from a guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Ton of Information
I recently read the title "Data Center Fundamentals", by Mauricio Arregoces and Maurizio Portolani.ISBN: 1587050234.This title has a ton of information in it.It covers just about every technology that could make up a Data Center environment. The authors have done a good job of cover detail about the several technologies in this title. Some technologies are covered in more detail than others. For example there's a lot of information on HTTP related technologies and not so much detail on say routing protocol. This makes sense, because the title is "Data Center Fundamental".

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst book
The writers either do not understand the topics, or they want to confuse the readers intentionally. You will find their writing style extremly annoying. They use the Skatestown(??) example to mislead the readers whenever they need to explain something. I dont know how such a bad written book can make it out to the book stores. If you buy this book, it will be the biggest waste of money.

3-0 out of 5 stars sample code is not complete
I am still wondering why the authors don't provide all the code, since the book describes an application and that should have been tested and the code is there. Just a few wsdl files don't help very much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Samples
There is an important thing missing in this book: complete samples. It is hard sometimes to understand what they are explaning since you just see a fragment of a WSDD, but not the classes or vice-versa. Since the book is already too long, the authors should have samples in the Internet. They even don't need to explain too much about these complete samples. Leave the developers to comment and validate them in Internet forums. In my view, samples will transform what now isjust a so-so book in an excellent one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book about Postfix
I wasn't looking for esoteric information on how to administer Sendmail. I was looking for a book on Postfix and that's what the author provided. I got the book based a lot on the quality of O'Reilly books and the editor's reputation. Andy Oram is a top notch editor. I recommend this book to any Linux or UNIX person wanting to substitute Postfix for sendmail. Postfix is a drop in replacement for systems configured for sendmail but Postfix is not a monlithic program with lots of vulnerabilities. The author expalins that perfectly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference guide for PostFix
PostFix is a replacement mail server, MTA, for Unix based systems that
2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting
If you're looking for a comprehensive guide on setting up a Postfix mail server, then this isn't the book for you.For those that are already familiar with setting up MTAs, the information provided in "The Definitive Guide" is probably enough, but this book only covers a subset of the Postfix configuration parameters and does not provide the step-by-step instructions that many people may be expecting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, Instructional, with great code samples
This book has gotten me out of many scrapes. It is a rare book that can be read from the beginning, while trying out the sample code, as a way to learn the language, or as a reference book, to look up how to use a certain function effectively while writing code.Don't let the title fool you, this book is for those coding in VB just as much as it is for those using VBA.If you are going to buy one book on Visual Basic, let this be the one.If you are going to buy one book on Visual Basic, and see one movie this year, then buy this book and see Amelie. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars Reference Book
Good reference book... help you find tricks to do automation and to maximize the output of your VBA code. Not for newbies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Object-Oriented Programming in VBA
Finally there is a book that addresses advanced/state-of-the-art topics and program functionality in VBA.Most other VBA books end their discussion of object-oriented constructs and custom classes with a weak example of a collection class. This book goes way beyond into custom events, interface and implementation classes, and error handling. You're left with the feeling that you have access to all the armament VBA has to offer.Plus, there are lot's of tips & tricks for everything else, and lot's of code you need but haven't had the time to write yourself. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Author is out of touch
I'm sorry to report that Alan Cooper appears to be years out of touch with the software industry. He lobbies for a new 'interaction design' class of professionals working toward designing how the user sees the system - but the industry started doing these things a good 15-20 years ago. Also, he assertions that "in software, typically nothing is visible until it is done" is just plain wrong today; 20 years ago that was true but the software industry today uses storyboards, paper usability reviews, UI mockups, prototypes, etc all with the intent of designing a user friendly interface before the first line of code is written. He starts off with flawed assumptions and ignorance and goes downhill from there.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for IT developers, designers and managers
Cooper's observations are right on. Many books on interaction design deal mainly with design examples and methods. "Inmates" has some of that, but the best part focuses on IT business culture, and the obstacles it poses for creating usable and desirable software and websites. It's a passionate, eloquent, 'non-sugar coated' manifesto for software that doesn't make people feel stupid, and what's needed to make that happen.
1-0 out of 5 stars He quoted Parkinson's law
From the book: "Managers know that software development follows Parkinson's Law: Work will expand to fill the time alloted to it." This is such an outdated idea and method for managers to deal with software engineers the rest of the book was tainted for me by his obvious distain for software engineers. Only the worst kind of un-trusting manager would assume that his engineers will naturally drag their feet if the schedule allows it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Concise Overview to Get One Started
You can't watch television these days without getting bombarded with ads for on line brokerage companies. What's been missing has been a centralized source for information about the whole thing. This book provides that source. It's not complete - if it were it would be so big that you couldn't carry it around - but it's a great start.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get Up To Speed With New Strategies, Tools and Resources
This newest edition of "Investing Online for Dummies" reflects the latest changes and improvements to online investing Web sites. Addresses building an online information system, setting up a basic investment strategy, determining how much to invest, selecting an online broker and trading online, finding the right investments, performing Internet transactions securely, saving on commissions, managing a portfolio, and much more.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great guide for online investing
As I surf the Web, I often feel that it's like visiting a library where all the books have been spilled on the floor. The information is there but I don't know where to begin my search. "Investing Online For Dummies" explained how to get started, steered me to free or low cost online services, pointed out the important parts of Web sites, and showed me the process of online investing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nielson disappoints again
Admittedly, I've been biased against Nielson's works since the publication of `Designing Web Usability' in 1999; finding his tendency to oversimplify and `deconstruct' rather ineffectual. And as usual, `Homepage Usability' disappoints as an overly sensational and inaccurate evaluation of homepage usability. There are good parts, in particular, the statistics you may want to reference for your own usability initiatives. But the `50 webpages deconstructed' portion is not much more than Nielson spewing hot air. If you learn (or are entertained) best through critique by an impossible standard and ideal, by all means, this book is for you. If you are looking for a USABLE and real life guide to homepage design, look elsewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars Jakob Nielsen is a huge dork!
I was forced to use this book for college in a "Website Admin" class.I think the first 53 pages make a good reference for web design but the rest of it is all about how fortune 500 companies have bad websites.Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, etc... come on now, these companies ARE the internet and this guy is "deconstructing" them and critisizing what they do wrong.Anyway, design is completely relative so use this as a guide only.By the way... pages 54 through 320 can be removed as far as i'm concerned.
4-0 out of 5 stars detailed critiques of major websites
This book excels in giving detailed critiques of the home pages of 50 prominent websites. These include Microsoft, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, General Electric and Boeing. The websites span the gamut from appealing to a mass audience, like Amazon and MTV, to more specialised corporate sites like GE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent insight, without being boring
This is an excellent book, and it helped me a lot in understanding the basic techniques of hacking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Work
This is one of thosw rear books that get five stars from me. The book is very straigntforward: it is short, it is free of unnecessary explanations, it is pretty detailed and well organized. The book assumes you know quite a bit about computers in general and low-level OS organization in particular. It gives a plethora of interesting examples to try out, so even if you're not particularly interested in the low-level detailes of how a certain trick works, you still remain in the zone by simply applying those examples.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall Good Introduction to ASP.NET 2.0
Chapters (hours) 1 through 21 were easy to follow and complete.Chapters 22 through 24 are a different story, however.Followed directions closely to create a photo sharing web site, but after checking many times, the code I typed in only worked about 90% correctly.I may have followed the instructions incorrectly, but that is my one issue with the book. The first 21 chapters were easy to follow and the last 3 chapters were 10 times harder.I still think it was worth it - I just wish the difficulty could have ramped up linearly instead of exponentially.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I have been developing in MS ACCESS, VB, and SQL SERVER for several years; but I had no prior experience in web development. This book was great at laying a foundation for web-development. Each hour is a new piece of the web development puzzle. The author assumes you know nothing; while this may be frustrating for experienced developers, it does a lot of hand-holding for the novice web developer.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good start but dont expect to start publishing sites
I purchased this book to get started in ASP.I am a avid VB/Net and C# programmer so the languages were not a problem.I liked this book because it only touched on the languages slightly 2 chapters.I wanted to learn the basics of ASP 2.0 which this book does teach.

If you've adopted Java as your organizational language, you're probably using, or planning to use, some sort of multitier design to maximize maintainability while making your data store accessible to as many applications as possible. The Jakarta engine ranks as the interface server of choice in that environment, and the Jakarta Struts Framework 1.1 makes it far easier to implement multitier information systems. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a tutorial - Don't buy if you want to learn struts
This book should not be viewed as a tutorial. If you know nothing about struts and you want to learn, do not buy this book. You will only confuse yourself.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough Review
The previous book I had on Struts did a poor job of... well, everything. It is called "The Struts Framework" and the main reason I bought it was because it was a manageable 150 pages long. (Am I the only one tired of several hundred page tech books?)
2-0 out of 5 stars Convoluted and difficult to understand
Usually I consult Amazon for a book reference. This time I decided to buy this book simply because it's O'REILLY.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe good for OOP, but not for real JAVA
I am using this book for JAVA class at my University. It really sucks, because my teacher teaches like most other books teach, and this book has some weird pedagogical method of teaching objects rather than syntax.Terrible when your teacher wants to teach his way and it conflicts with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am not an idiot
I am a beginner at JAVA and I have tried other books and spent a lot of time making poor progress as they try to talk down to you. I am not an idiot and appreciate the fact that this book is by a real life teacher who is aware of the failings of beginners and helps to put these right. Combine this with an online discussion group for problems and you have an excellent learning environment

5-0 out of 5 stars The Holy Grail for Beginners learning Java 5++
Had my first taste of BlueJ as a college student at Bell College Hamilton, my Java skills have increased tremendously mainly due to the principles and concepts learned from BlueJ.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy Portable Reference
This is not a learning text by any stretch of the imagination.Covering the basic implementation of Regular Expressions in Perl, Java, .NET, C#, Python, PCRE, PHP, vi Editor, JavaScript, and a few shell utilities, this title is well suited as a quick "cheat sheet" for those already familiar, often providing the required information in just the "Supported Metacharacters" section.
3-0 out of 5 stars great book, but...
This is a great handy reference to compare several popular tools supporting regrex.
4-0 out of 5 stars A review of "Regular Expression Pocket Reference"
One of the most difficult things when working with regular expressoins -- at least for me -- is dealing with different implementations (i.e., Perl, Java, Python, PHP, UNIX tools, etc.)The basics of regexes and pattern matching don't vary all that much, but each implementation is just different enough that the smae line of code can yield different results. If you work with more than one of these implementations, keeping track of differences in metacharacters and metasequences can be nearly impossible. This is especially true when -- as is the case with me -- you deal with regexes somewhat intermittently.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting if you can get past the horrible writing....
This guy is definitely a geek and NOT an English major. The stories are interesting and frightening if you can get past the constant run on sentences and poor grammar.Good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for anyone with an interest in computer security
While these stories describe different exploits they all provide different lessons and are from that POV well worthwhile.Several of the stories are quite funny (the hacked Coke machine for instance--the password jumped out at me as soon as they said no one could ever guess it) but still worth while. There is too much tendency to depend on hardware solutions when folks don't realise that those are computers too and they can be hacked just as easily or even more so than a PC.Some of the stories are probably exaggerated as Mitnick admits he was unable to verify all of them particularly the shorts at the end of the book. Some of chapter 10 is probably exaggerated but I used to do pen tests and its certainly overall credible.A very valuable book overall.I can sympathise when some of the "white hat" security experts turn vigilante and deface websites etc. out of frustration. The reason that I left the field was because often my big decision after an audit was "do I just dust off the report I did 2 years ago or do I write a new one" because more often than not nothing had changed and none of the holes had been plugged. Most of the times I wrote a new report were because new vulnerabilities had been added.

4-0 out of 5 stars Art of Intrusion Review
Written by Kevin D. Mitnick and William L. Simon, The Art of Intrusion is a unique book showcasing true short stories submitted by hackers telling about the various hacks they have done. With everything from cheating at Las Vegas casinos to breaking into bank computer systems, the book is both educational and entertaining. After each story, ex-hacker Kevin Mitnick gives advice on how to prevent intrusions like the ones described in the book from happening to you or your business, as well as some insight on why the systems were so vulnerable in the first place. It is like a suspense novel for the computer-savvy. If you want to be entertained and learn something new each time you pick up the book, you can't go wrong with The Art of Intrusion. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A reference book you'll want to keep close at hand...
Author Jeffrey Bardzell does a great job of explaining the ins-and-outs of ASP, ColdFusion, and PHP use within Dreamweaver 8 in MACROMEDIA DREAMWEAVER 8 WITH ASP, COLDFUSION, AND PHP: TRAINING FROM THE SOURCE.Not only does the book cover the subject matter in an easy-to-follow style, but examples and sample files are also provided on the CD that comes with the book.As a person who learns more by doing than by just simply reading about it or seeing it in a diagram, I found this feature to be very useful.
2-0 out of 5 stars No online errata for this book
I'll say something good first.I found the author to be well skilled in explaining the concepts as well as the procedure when using Dreamweaver 8.Each chapter is written like a good lesson plan, and takes you through the book task by task.I usually have to read more than one book on a technology because what one author fails to explain adequately, another explains very well. That is the case with this book, But don't buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book for self-learner
My boss asked me to develop a leave system. I have no experience about Access VBA before. I bought a lot of books. However most of them are too thick and theoretical. No step by step examples are provided. Fortunately after reading this one, I can finish my task now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Access 2000 with Visual Basic for Applications
I consider this book to be ideal for people needing real hands on knowledge of Access. I'm using it in self-study to learn advanced concepts and VBA. I feel this is the ideal text for the self-learner.Read more
