3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing extraordinary. Decent coverage of basic and advanced concepts alike.
There are quite a few books on spring framework in the wild and since I have read every one of them, I take the privilege to say that this book is not the best among them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Book like a stone.
I can't say nothing bad about this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great place to start learning about Spring
This book has given me a broad overview of all of the different parts of the Spring Framework, from the basic Inversion of Control (IoC) pattern (aka Dependency Injection), through advanced ApplicationContext configuration, to O/R mapping, application security, and last but not least, Spring's MVC framework. I had been struggling through the online docs but the book really helped me to see the big picture, and really grok IoC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, comprehensive advice for creating and presenting documentation
If you're a nerd like me, then you feel giddy when someone publishes a cool nerdbook. I have stayed up late reading this book and and filled the margins with notes and stars. Brown gives simple, applicable advice about creating and presenting Web deliverables.
5-0 out of 5 stars Keep the "White Board Book" Alongside Your Polar Bear Book
Dan Brown's first offering is a practical guide for Information Architects (IA) and other usability and user experience professionals in the web/software design and human factors engineering industries. Because IA is an emerging field, Dan draws from his vast experience to describe 10 typical deliverables that help facilitate the design of useful products.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative Book
This was a great book to get your mind started on thinking about opening a retail business. It doesn't focus solely on EBay.It also covers other small business avenues.
4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners
This book is perfect for first time sellers and people that just need help finding direction.A lot of the information is general business knowledge but there is an occasional piece of helpful knowledge, even to experienced ebayers and amazoners. There is help with understanding taxes as well as creating yourself as a professional business. All around it's a decent read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginner to intermediate
I would recommend downloading the sample from the website to get a good idea of if the book's style works for you.Overall, the book provides a top notch introduction to CSS as well as good design and application tips. The emphasis on seperation of style and content is truly appreciated.I would strongly recommend this book to learn to properly build basic sites, and to build a foundation to build more advanced development skills on top of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Utopia, indeed!
I can't believe I've been so mired in the -stone ages- of Table-based web site design for so long. Rachel made me realize just how easy it can be, with a little care and forethought, to put together an excellent foundation for a site's layout.
5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding the CSS Revolution
CSS has completely changed the way that websites are designed. That is, if anything, an understatement: CSS has revolutionized Web design. Designers can do things with CSS that would have taken a LOT more time and effort to do using straight HTML 3.2 - if they could have been done at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for intermediate level PHP Programmers or above
This is a hefty tome, weighing in at 650 pages chocked full of great information about advanced PHP programming. The book is divided into five sections each with several to many chapters. The sections are Implementation and Development Methodologies, Caching, Distributed Applications, Performance, and Extensibility. Where appropriate sample applications are developed to present a point, in other situations a higher level approach is taken.
2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Survey Book / Not Great
I agree with other reviewers that this is a survey or concept book.Schlossnagle is a bright php programmer but a lousy teacher.Do not buy this book if you are hoping to learn 'Advanced PHP Programming' from it.This book is too superficial in it's coverage of the many subjects.Ie: Schlossnagle's coverage of Object Oriented Programming is less than six pages (why bother?), and does not adequately cover the basics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Look over a Master's shoulder
Awesome learn by example book IF you already have a little background in CSS, and even then if your knowledge is elementary you might be lost on some of the finer points. If it had a little more theory and explanations it would be a killer book, but I guess Eric Meyer didn't have patience enough for that. He is anyway a Master in CSS styling, no doubts about that, and the right author too look at for learning and inspiration. The book is structured around several projects that you see in the various developing stages from beginning to end in reasonably small steps. The explanations of what's going on are like what you would expect from a guru/designer/artist that is, far from complete andbasic. Again is like you had the chance to peek over Eric's shoulder while he works, but he won't be bothered to lose too much of his time after you. But don't get me wrong, this book is a must have for anyone interested in CSS, even if I would not buy it now (it starts being a bit dated) but would wait for his next book that should come out this autumn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second to none!
I wanted a quick crash course in CSS; instead this book gave me a comprehensive start that led me on a path to a solid foundation in designing with Cascading Style Sheets.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference about CSS
The first seen this book seems one more technical guide about CSS, but to the first contact realizes that it is a great reference based on needs to everyday of the web designer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't come across anything this can't answer for me...
It's about time MS put out a reference set that covers the most important topics, not abstract one's. I like this reference set alot so far because of it's thurough coverage of the Document Object Models (DOM) for Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. I haven't gone through the whole thing yetbut the only left for me to find is where they talk more about automation, something pretty much left out of the Office 97 reference set. Overallthough, this is a great set of books to have at your disposal. It hasalready helped me come up with solutions for the custom-businessapplications and macros I create. There is also alot of material thatwasn't in the last series. A great asset to any company with VB or VBAprogrammers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!Finally Help for the Office Developer
I've been working with MS Office 2000 for several months. The extended Object Models have become more powerful for the end user, but more complicated for the developer.I recently purchsed this set of books.Wow!What a difference. This library unfolds all the mysteries of theMicrosoft Office 2000 suite as well as some very helpful guidelines forVisual Basic for Applications (VBA).With these books, I've been ablethough to walk through examples, and create customized solutions for myusers. Can't wait for the sequel!Well worth the money.I expect toreap benefits ten-fold over the costs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book has changed my life
This is a must-read for any Perl programmer. You are only as good as the teachers you have, and if your teachers use stuff like $|++, you are screwed. In this case, Conway would tell you to Use English;, and then you'd know what a $| is.A sampling of other tips:
5-0 out of 5 stars Books is getting worn out
I came to Perl from C. Some of the good things I learnt in C (using K&R coding style), and some of the bad things, were both dealt with in this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Coding Methods to Improve Your Perl
I have to admit that I can bristle at books that try to preach, so Perl Best Practices was on a hiding to nothing when I came to review it. I also have to admit to being torn about the author -- after all, he is one of those poor fools who insist on living in cold, unenlightened Melbourne, while I live in vastly superior Sydney. On the other hand, how can I dislike a man who manages to place a quote that involves my favourite character, Lady Bracknell. from my favourite comic play, 'The Importance of Being Earnest,' in the first few pages of his book?

2-0 out of 5 stars There is better
I thought this book would help me learn Java when I first bought it, but I thinkthe examples are skimpy. A more complete reference and tutorial is Cay Horstman's and Gary Cornell's 7 ed. of Core Java 2: Volumes 1 and 2. These 2 volumes have great examples, and go more in-depth into Java. Skip Schildt's book, and buy the Core Java Volumes even if you need just a reference. You will be happier, and learn more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book
Very good book if you are a beginner. It gives you the basics for everything you need. I havent given it 5 stars because it lacks some of the advanced stuff, you end up referring to some other books for that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book to start Java
This book as the name suggest gives you complete overview for learning and understanding Java. It clearly points out the differences between Java 1.4 and Java 1.5 (J2SE 5.0). It highlights the important points and gives introduction to Swings, Servlets and a good financial application using java.

4-0 out of 5 stars got the warm-fuzzy i was looking for...
I work for a Forture 500 company that is upgrading intranet Search capability using Google Appliance.I bought this book to help determine what risks Google Appliance might expose. The book begins with good overview of the basic Google interface and includes tips for searching.I then expected to get the low-down on hacking using Google. What i discovered was somewhat anticlimactic, there really aren't any serious hacks to be had using Google.Obviously, you must be careful about web-content publishing processes. Also, Google is respectful of content you don't want crawled or exposed (using both Internet Search and intranet appliance).
4-0 out of 5 stars Best-of-class book at using the power of Google!
Syngress's "Google Hacking for Penetration Testers" (GHPT) by Johnny Long demonstrates to average Joes the power of Google. The author is the authority on how to use Google to recon an intended target.Considering the narrow focus of the subject, the book is able to thoroughly dissect the various tools and weapons Google offers.Certainly, this book is not admitting anything not already known in the hacking world, but the books does provide a valuable asset as a one-stop-shop at using Google.
5-0 out of 5 stars That is a lot of info!!!
It has everything you NEED to learn how to hack w/ using something as simple as Google.i never in my life would have thought you could get that much server info and vuln. info with just using Google.Johnny knows his stuff and this is a must have if you are a novice hacker that wants to stem-away from the title; "script-kiddie", this book will help you. Thanks to the authors for this great release. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I had to buy this book for a class, it is terrible. All the author does is have you go click here and drag this to go through the exercises with no explainations. It's a waste of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book out there to learn Dreamweaver
I have taken several classes to learn Dreamweaver but still didn't handle to use Dreamweaver very well...until I found this book which answered all the questions I had to master Dreamweaver. This book is the best book out there so far for beginner; A must have.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Was Forced To Read This For A Class, and Will Never Be The Same Again
This has to be the worst book ever written. Do yourself a favor, and spare yourself from the pain. The author thinks it's cute to make little quips that a 3 year might think of and put little wink things behind them, you know what I mean ;). The problem is they just annoy you to no end. The other annoying thing is that it takes the author a page and half to say "Hit the Enter Key". He spends page after page talking of inane things, hawking other books, and making stupid, juvenile comments. The book is a laborious 700 pages long, an agonizing 700 pages long. I have noticed that they have fired the dweeb who wrote it, Garo Green (who I always imagined him as a pasty white, fat 50 year old geek-you'll see what I mean if you have the misfortune of being forced to use this book), and significantly shorten the book, even though Dreamweaver 8 has many more features. I write this with the full knowledge that I will be selling my copy of this at the end of the semester, and that this review will adversely affect my selling price, but the book is really that bad. Unless you need it for a course, do not buy it. I promise you will regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable Reference
Large books, by their very nature, can have good points and bad points. After all, if you have a couple or several hundred pages worth of material, you are bound to get some things right and some things wrong.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it is supposed to be ..
Great little reference book.It is not intended to be a learning tool.If you want that, try the Head First book on HTML/XHTML/CSS that O'Reilly also publishes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Works like expected.
I've used this pocket reference for a long time now and I love it. It's a great way to refresh your memory when you can't seem to remember a property and/or its value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the Exchange section alone
I picked this up after noticing it in a book shop (sorry Amazon!).I'm an Exchange administrator and this book gave me some great scripting tips for managing and monitoring my environment.I haven't gone much beyond that since, to my regret, but the concept of packaging scripts was news to me, and I would love to find the time to try out some of the other more elaborate techniques in there. But of course, I am an Exchange Administrator ;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as they say
This is an excellent follow on book to "Microsoft Windows 2000 Scripting Guide," ISBN: 0735618674, which was my previous bible. I had long ago advanced past much of what is written in that excellent foundation book for VBScript, and this advanced volume really fills in the gaps. After purchasing numerous VB and VBA references that are nothing more than syntax libraries, I feel I finally have the big picture on the capabilities of this technology with this book. It is all clear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers what it promises
It never ceases to amaze me how many scripting books, including this one, start off telling you that you should already have intermediate to advanced scripting skills before you read, yet spend an initial chapter explaining what an array or an object is.It leaves me feeling that their definition of what "advanced" is will differ greatly from mine.I am also always a little dismayed when throughout, a book plugs a costly script development studio and spends time pointing out why your chosen script editor isn't good enough for your projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars For moms and dads and anyone else new to the Web
Without a doubt, one of the best ways for non-technical folks to learn about the web and the internet. I'm personally opposed to labeling anyone unfamiliar with computers, a dummy. This book teaches by using mostly graphic imagery which clearly illustrates the concepts being discussed. A definate add-on for anyone getting, or giving a new computer, Mac or PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive
I'm quite impressed and satisfied with this book and with the entire Simplified series. This book presents an excellent introduction to and overview of the internet and the world wide web. It is very accessible to beginners and provides useful information for more experienced users. For visual learners (like myself), the illustrations are a great help.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEN FORTA IS AMAZING
This man is amazing. I can feel his passion for ColdFusion when I read the book. I also have his Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes and it's the same way. I have a library of technical books, mostly software and programming language books but I don't have any that are as easy to understand and as fun to follow as the Forta books. Lastly, I love reading classical literature as well. Some of my favorites are Dante's Inferno and Milton's Paradise Lost (Tom Sawyer, Edgar Allen Poe, Dostoevsky...). I rank this ColdFusion book as one of the best pieces of literature that I've ever read. That's how good it is to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is the first book that I bought to start learning Cold Fusion(along with the Advanced Development), and it is by far one of the easiest books to read and make use of.Everything is written clearly, great explanations, great code samples each with tons of comments.Must read for any soon to be or already a CF developer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first time I ever enjoyed writing a data-driven site.
I have been designing web sites for over ten years, but working with data-base driven sites has always been a major pain in the butt. Not until I stumbled onto this program and this book. WOW - Should cover my feelings on this topic. Talk about simple and POWERFUL. Imagine this - instead of writing over 200 lines of HTML, writing 40 lines of Coldfusion, operating an entire site from one page and from a 170 pages down to 9 (no joke). If you're using MS Access or MySQL, it makes no difference, instant and simple. In less then a week I had the site up and running - bug free. Finding a proper hosting company that runs Coldfusion is somewhat of a pain, but it is completely worth it. If you have never made a data-driven site before, this will make the experience extremely pleasant and if you have written many, this will make you wish you knew about this before.
