1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time
I found this book really wordy and boring, it put me to sleep. The whole idea of learning AIS from a textbook is just like trying to learn to use computer without a computer! The whole AIS operation circle isn't hard to comprehend, but learning it from hundred of pages of literature is a dumb idea. On top of that, I don't think I have to learn the definition of E-Business and its difference from Internet(is there a e-business operated without internet?!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I work as an accountant and was looking for a book to brush up on AIS.I don't have any other books, except my university text, to compare this to but this book has done an excellent job bringing me up to speed on the current AIS function. This field is rapidly changing and its important for practioners to keep on top of this area of study.I was not disappointed. In my opinion, this book can make this everchanging field very comprehensible to practioners at any level.

5-0 out of 5 stars 21st Century Accounting Information Systems
Unlike many of the other AIS textbooks still being sold, this textbook was well written to begin with and was seriously edited and re-written where necessary to improve its teaching quality in this 5th Edition.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs a second volume which explains the first
This book is by now an accepted classic in the field. It is basically the only textbook that covers so much of computational linguistics, so I have had no choice but to use it for the past several years.Just the same, I'd rather not use it for teaching linguistics students. While the book has much to offer the professional, including a broad range of topics extensively researched, it is much more useful in this "handbook" capacity than as a textbook for the uninitiated. The chief reasons for this are: 1) It is pedagogically very poor; the majority of concepts are either explained in a confusing and obfuscatory manner or are not explained and are simply left in algorithmic form. This is not usually edifying to the linguistics student with no computer science background.2) There are too many mistakes in its algorithms and method overviews. So far as I can see, even the famed Earley parsing algorithm is wrong here, it will not yield the correct output.3) It is not written in a language that linguistics students can understand. With no background in mathematics, computer science, or pseudocode, such students need much more coddling than is provided by this book, and they are virtually unable to read it.Basically, as the title to this review states, what is called for now is a book to explain the contents of this book.Perhaps if my students keep encouraging me to write it. . .
5-0 out of 5 stars I looked for
something which I can use - I am a linguist - and found it immensly readable and useful

4-0 out of 5 stars The a good introduction to NLP, but could be improved
This book helped me accomplish what I set out to do; namely to obtain an overview of the field of natural language processing, with an emphasis on language understanding (as opposed to recognition). And I can recommend it on that level. The weakness of the book however is that it left me asking, "OK, now what?". The book started off strong with a number of dynamic-programming algorithms, finite automaton models, and N-grams that one could sink his/her teeth into from an algorithmic point-of-view. But when it came to actual techniques for natural-language understanding (chapters 14-17) the goods were not delivered. The algorithms disappeared, and the best I could find was in Chapter 15 an incomplete, and unconvincing treatment of Hiyan Alshawi's semantic parsing techniques which fueled the Core Language Engine last decade. Chapter 16 dealt with lexical semantics and was almost entirely devoid of algorithms. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I have been managing large BW environments for over 6 years. My people and I agree that this book is informative and worthwhile reading.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview
This book provides an excellent overview of SAP's BW. However for myself the book did not provide the types of details I was hoping for. I'm new to SAP BW, however I have extensive experience with EDW, ETL, OLAP, and BI solutions. So revisiting common concepts was not productive for me. However I would see how this text would be helpful for a SAP guru who is being introduced to BW, and Data Warehousing concepts for the first time. I would still suggest this book to anyone. Hope this helps, Cheers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice book of of BW
I've read 2 books on BW, compared with another book Ive read, this book is on BW 3.0B which is a more mature DW product of SAP, it not only focuses on the BW transactional stuff but also tries to explain the detailed theories and business cases which are the more valuable points for me. If youre a BW beginner, this book may not be suitable since its not going to teach you how to extract data, setup info source , create data target or create queries in a detail instruction way, but instead bring you a very completely high-level picture of BW architecture and solutions.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interview Books
First, and frankly the most important thing to understand about interview questions books is that they help you save time. These books help you understand what deserves your attention and further reading, and what does not. These books help you understand what you need to learn, and what you can safely ignore. As an SAP consultant you can spend several hours each week, if not every day, learning about SAP. It is a major part of being an SAP person (especially a good one), and anything that you can do to reduce the amount of time you spend simply learning is very valuable to you. When you're spending time reading and not billing at a client, it can cost you about $100 each hour. That's expensive reading time! And so why would you even think twice about the cost of a $50 book if you think it will help you learn something valuable that you can apply at your job.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth of buying this Book
Before buying this book,I had high expectations because of price and author. But when I bought this book, I realized it is not worth of spending more than $5. I felt I dupped.

Editorial Review

One of the problems with Unix is its spotty support for printers. Before the advent of the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS), a particular printer needed a driver for, say, System V Unix, and a separate driver for FreeBSD. The problem has become particularly pronounced now that Linux is becoming more popular as a desktop operating system, where it competes with Windows and other operating systems under which printer installation is pretty easy. CUPS installs on all major Unix and Linux flavors, and handles the interface between printer and operating system. Driver writers can, therefore, write for CUPS and not worry about what's underneath. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very in-depth look into CUPS
This is an excellent book on what seems to be the most advanced printing system for UNIX these days.It covers a vast number of topics including building and installation, printer setups, server and client configurations, and several chapters on programming CUPS with an API.The best part that I got out of the book was the numerous examples, including code examples. ... I was looking for information on cross-platform debugging. This manual provides adequate information. A printed manual is sometime helpful when you are so tired looking at the over crowded screen. 5-0 out of 5 stars Review from the Author
Don't be fooled by the "Dummies" title - Wiley Publishing has a very successful formula that they've developed for this series. As much as I'd like to think that you're going to read this book from cover to cover, alas, it's meant to be a reference book that you can pick up and instantly find the answer to your most pressing questions. I've covered the most commonly used of the ACT! features and included many of the "gotchas" that I've encountered over my many years of ACT! consulting. I've given you easy, step by step instructions that don't require you to work with "pretend" contacts. Most importantly, I've tried to infuse the book with a sense of humor because to me learning a software program should be fun and non-threatening.

2-0 out of 5 stars Superficial and unclear
Trying to gather the greatest audience possible, this book is superficial, completly unclear and boring. Why? Topics are quickly introduced, concepts are rarely analized deeply, it's more discorsive than formal. With so many subjects of AI in the same book not enough space can be given to all of them, so most of the chapters are lists of important algorithms or concepts, barely explained. This book really stands out among the AI texts (I've read 4 others). First, the language is clear and simple enough for undergrads to grasp. Second, there are consistent examples that pervade the text to help the reader apply each method to an established problem. Third, the explanations of algorithms/structures are crafted and phrased to TEACH, not merely to summarize a bunch of material for reference purposes. Finally, the programming chapters allow the student to realize the material, and really think about the problems by implementing them and hashing out the details.
3-0 out of 5 stars this book not cover much
I bought this book for my introduction course in AI. I feel that this book has lack of somethings which are very important, neural networks, and Ai and robotics to name a few. I found that the text is very hard to understand. Again he didn't use enough example to explain some of the topics. I am lost reading this book. The book is not well structured and turned me bored after 30 minutes reading it. The reason are, AI term definations are not included as other book do, few visual diagrams, objective is not well defined. Once again, he didn't include introduction/review of what we acpect to learn of each of every chapters. Reading it is like reading a "white bible". Only plain text and unprofessional layout. This book discorage me reading it. I think i should buy other book that have a wider coverage topics in AI and yet easy to understand, consistent with my AI course syllibus and yet easy for my eyes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference
This book is very good for learning your way around Excel and its formulas.I am fairly comfortable in Excel and still found the book extremely useful. There are many formulas that are explained which I did not know existed that have made me much more efficient within the program.

2-0 out of 5 stars extremely poor excuse for an expository book
I do all my serious mathematical work with Mathematica. However since some of my collegues use Excel for simple data presentation and analysis, I've recently started using Excel to be able to converse with my collegues.
