4-0 out of 5 stars Gets the Job Done Without Enthusiasm
I don't own a blackberry. I have heard of them and am a bit intrigued and wanted to see if I really wanted to get one. I've been fed up with the variable reliability of my IPaq and my current phone is on its last days. So I bought the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Mobile Guide to BlackBerry
Is it ever possible to have too much of a good thing? The answer is arguably a resounding NO! at least when it comes to advice, suggestions, and tips in using the world's most addictive device, Research in Motion's BlackBerry. That is precisely what Bill Foust's essential Guide offers in a straightforward, easily understandable, and organized fashion. Quite simply, this is the definitive handbook for all BlackBerry users, from the neophyte to the most experienced, from the technically challenged to the technically sophisticated. There is a myriad of valuable suggestions that will benefit all users who pick it up. In fact, if you are a BlackBerry user or plan to become one shortly, you will do yourself a huge favour by scouring through this two hundred page Bible.
4-0 out of 5 stars several Electronic Communication Modalities
Foust shows how your BlackBerry can do significantly more than just read email in a wireless fashion. Many applications are described, but the key ones involve electronic messages. The latter word is used deliberately in the text. For it turns out that email is just one type of electronic communication modality.

4-0 out of 5 stars 90% writing style and 10% email
This book is good mostly for people who want to improve their writing skills. It doesn't matter too much if they are going to write an email or a fax, because the book covers just some email features.4-0 out of 5 stars Great Primer for those new to e communication
I purchased the books for use by my team and they enjoyed using the books to improve the impact of their messages. We communicate daily via email and at times it is the only way we can communicate so as you can imagine, ouremail has to be precise and informative. I highly recommend this book forthose new to e communicating or for those of us who never really knew therewere rules... Also a big bonus is there is a section on grammar and how tocommunicate effectively while maintaing good grammar! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Plain old Post Office Protocol (POP) is fine for just logging in andgrabbing your e-mail from a dial-up service, but more elaborate mail-managementand messaging solutions require a more capable protocol. The Internet MailAccess Protocol (IMAP) fits the bill by allowing you to pull off all sorts ofmail-management tricks. With IMAP, a single user can see the same messages andfolders on many computers, or multiple users (say, members of a sales team) eachcan integrate a common folder into individual organizational hierarchies.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK Book but not Excellent
I give this book a grade C. It talks about the benefits of IMAP and about the most popular IMAP servers Cyrus-Imap and WU-IMAP. It shows an intro to both these servers but it does not go into technical details. I had to go to other sources in order to find out how to setup Cyrus IMAP properly and how to troubleshoot it. I wish they had a more recent Revision like the other O'Reilly books that are kept updated. There are a lot of differences between the IMAP servers of the year 2000 and the IMAP servers in 2006. I wish there was an O'Reilly technical book on just Cyrus-IMAP and anotherone for Dovecot-IMAP (my second choice for an IMAP server). Someone needs to write a new IMAP book, please!

3-0 out of 5 stars good practice, but not general enough
The big limitation here is that this book concentrates on a couple of open-source packages, so lots of time is spent detailing their intricacies.I would think that a more general book on IMAP4 protocol would be helpful.2-0 out of 5 stars Does not cover the prerequisites
If you are looking to find out about the IMAP protocol - This book is very good, I bought it to help me install the Cyrus imap server. The book covers the installation of cyrus but it does not cover the prerequisites. I found the hardest part of setting up the Cyrus server was dealing with the software prerequisites, i.e. tcl and cyrus sasl.If you are interested in learning about the IMAP protocol, this is the book, if you are interested in setting up Cyrus - save your money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The essential guide to Open PGP for email
Pretty Good Privacy and Phil Zimmerman are computer counterculture legends. By putting secure communication into the hands of anyone with a computer, Zimmerman both launched a revolution and stirred the ire of the U.S. government. After suffering under -- and prevailing over -- severe FBI harassment and malicious prosecution, Zimmerman and his open PGP encryption tool have demolished government attempts to control cryptography. After sixteen years, PGP still has no equal as an enabler of private communication.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for intro to PGP and related crypto
Excellent beginning tutorial on PGP and related technologies. Author writes well, clearly, and with just enough humor (not over done). I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in PGP, GnuPGP, or any of the related technologies.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE PARANOID'S BIBLE!!
Are you using PGP yet? If you're not, then this book is for you! Author Michael W Lucas, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that will show you enough about the ideas behind encryption and digital signatures that you'll be able to make intelligent choices about which of the available options you should use in any given circumstance .

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply an Excellent Exchange Book
This one of the best books I have had in my life. Not only provides information about the entire Exchange topic that a professional Exchange Administrator will need. It also provides a large amount of information that you must to know in order to ensure a healthy life of your Exchange organization.
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
Unfortunately this book is not for those of us who need "how to" guidance. It is full of useless information and opinion, but very little substance. You are better off searching the web for information.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've finally found something that I can run with!
This book is a complete guide that shaped my perspective in dealing with exchange at work. This is all of the real world, day to day "what you need to know and do" information that so many books lack.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a very good book, very inaccurate, misguided
First of all, I had high hopes for this book, based on other comments. I can only imagine comments were done by inexperienced people who didn't know too much about actual details regarding low-level details, or didn't mind factual errors, preaching style and skimming of actual useful pieces (beyond simple code examples one can easily get from Sun's JMS tutorial page).
5-0 out of 5 stars Best JMS book I've read
I have used JMS for about 2.5 years before I bought this book.4-0 out of 5 stars Generally excellent, but not consistent.
I bought this as I needed a JMS reference that went beyond the spec and talked about design, deployment and management of JMS infrastructure. I was very impressed with everything I read until I dipped into Chapter 13 - specifically the four pages on improving client-side throughput through internal queueing. While this is an excellent idea, the example shows how to build a complicated and threading-heavy internal queue and dispatching mechanism and recommends that you use it to, er, put events onto the Swing event dispatcher's internal queue. Hmm.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Um excelente livro
Excelente livro sobre o uso do e-mail para a divulgao de informaes pela Internet.4-0 out of 5 stars The definitive guide to e-mail publishing
An interesting book. Chris Pirillo discusses publishing an e-mail newsletter, or e-zine. In fact, he covers it almost completely. The only problem I had with this book was the author's incomplete and sometimes rambling discussion of configuring an e-mail account for your mailing list. I had to look elsewhere (online) to understand this. To his credit, it is difficult to understand.1-0 out of 5 stars Don't throw away your money
This is truly a terrible book - very thin on usable content.Further, the author, Chris Pirillo, writes like a high school "valley girl."It is a prime example that the Internet allows anyone - despite how dumb they are - to venture, and in this case, publish their opinions.Don't waste you money. And for the author, become a cheerleader! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed as I was looking for one particular issue
I bought the book specifically to find out how to do mail merge onto letters as I do with my ACT software. The entire book had one page on the topic and did not provide any insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a great reference.
I must say that I was hesitant about getting this book.I have used different versions of Outlook for years and felt that I would not benefit from it, but I was absolutely wrong. There are features in Outlook that I had no idea about.I regret buying Act 6.0 for my contact manager now because of what I've learned about Outlook through reading this book.I'm sure there are many of you out there that feel that you have a good knowledge of Outlook - but most of you still have yet to tap into it's wonders.Outlook 2002 for Dummies is written in standard "Dummies" form and is really easy to understand, yet not too boring for tech types either! It's a good investment. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Far Too Basic
Other Exam Cram books are pretty good, but this book is the exception. It is far too general and seems copied from help files. The index is limited, e.g. only one reference for global catalog, and the over author's knowledge seemed questionable when he documents requirements for a global catalog and a domain controller (page 17) and fails to realize a global catalog is a domain controller.
4-0 out of 5 stars not bad if you want to simply pass the exam
This was the only book I read before taking Exam 70-284 to become MCSA: Messaging 2003 certified, and I scored an 850.The book covers the essentials that you _need_ to know, and it was helpful to go through the scenarios and actually play with the server in a Virtual PC session.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice prep guide
ExamCram books have gotten a well-deserved reputation for being lightweight and insufficient as a primary study guide. This book is an exception to that rule, however; it is much thicker (almost 500 pages) than most in its series and more comprehensive. I attribute much of that to co-author Orin Thomas, who also co-authored the Microsoft 70-292/70-296 and 70-299 Training Kits, two of the best study guides I've used yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Programming and Feature Description Review
I am a retired software designer, now using Outlook for home use.I needed to move my cardfile from an obsolete MSDOS program to Outlook. After exporting my cardfile to a report in a text file, I wrote a VBA program to move it to an Access database. I then needed an Outlook VBA program to merge it with my existing Outlook cardfile and re-import the combined cardfile into Outlook.Ms. Cardoza's book told me what I needed to know - how to write VBA code in Outlook to read and write contacts and how to reference my Access database.
2-0 out of 5 stars The only Outlook 2003 book you need -- if you don't care to find out the answers to any of your questions
I've been using this book for about two months now, and there is a constant theme:I have a question, and this book can't answer it.Sometimes I'm able to figure it out.More often, it turns out that Outlook 2003 simply doesn't support that feature. But even in the latter case, it would be useful for the book to SAY that you can't do it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful Reference
I bought this book as a companion reference with Outlook 2003 that came with a Dell unit, Microsoft's own documentation being sparse.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book for Beginner to Intermediate Level
This is a great book for a beginner of SQL Server 2000 and XML. Starts off from scratch and walks you thru every aspect of XML and building a complete XML enabled web pages.5-0 out of 5 stars Make sure you buy the 2nd Edition
Most of the reviews here seem to relate to the first edition (which was admittedly kind of short). The book has been updated, and the second edition covers new stuff like XSD Schemas, Diffgrams, SOAP Virtual Names, and all the other SQLXML 3.0 features. I found the book really useful, and easy to read. The examples are great and the concepts are all well explained. Definitely worth buying if you're planning to use SQL Server's XML functionality. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office @2000 -ShellyCashman Series Book
The book itself is very good. I would recommend it to those who are just starting to learn and for those who need to brush up on their skills or use as a desk reference. I did not like the "ring -binder" form as it seems flimsy and already was looking used when I got it due to shipping. I would suggest the other form for future reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book just skip the first chapters about computers!!!
The book is great but it is written for people who never had experience with computers. So I would advise anyone to skip those intial chapters. I highly recommend getting the spiral bound edition because the book is about the size of a major city's Yellow Pages and it is easier to handle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Details That Developers and Security Experts Need
Phishing quickly exploded from a nuisance to a full-fledged threat in the middle of 2005. Weaknesses in email, combined with flaws in Web security and with a little social engineering mixed in make for an effective tool to get the attention of users and lure unsuspecting people into the trap.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a technical reference: A great read
If you're on your way to a security conference this summer, and you'd like to get up to speed on web site abuses and browser design vulnerabilities, this book makes for excellent airplane-reading fare. I say this because Phishing Exposed manages to succeed on two fronts: it is both an instructive technical reference, as well as a surprisingly compelling narrative.
5-0 out of 5 stars Expands the boundaries of client-side hacking
Phishing Exposed is a powerful analysis of the many severe problems present in Web-based activities.Phishing Exposed is another threat-centric title from Syngress. The book presents research conducted by Secure Science Corporation as a way to understand the adversary. The author demonstrates his own attacks against multiple popular e-commerce sites as a way to show how phishers accomplish their goals.I was surprised by the extent to which the author could repeatedly abuse high-profile financial sites, and for that reason I highly recommend reading Phishing Exposed.

Editorial Review

A handsome and practical book, chock-full of useful tricks and tips for WWW graphics design, Although the book was created for already-experienced graphicsdesigners moving to the Web medium, there's plenty of good information for novices as well. This book isespecially strong in helping you solve themysteries of working with transparency, interlacing, imagemaps, and bit-depths to create effective and compact images that work on the web. i am Happy to see the site, i cannat spellwords,5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for beginners to Web design
I found this book by accident in the library when I was starting the process of designing our office's web site. Because I was a rank beginner to the world of web design (although I knew the PC, Windows 98, MicrosoftOffice, FrameMaker, PageMaker and a little Photoshop), I needed somehand-holding to get my feet wet. This book was better than anything else Ifound for that task.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on web graphics concepts and fundamentals...
I found this book to be a great way to become familiar with the range ofissues that come to bear on incorporating graphics into a web page. Despite the exclusive use of Photoshop in the examples, the concepts areexplained in such a way that makes it easy to identify the samegraphic-editing techniques needed to be used with other software such asPaint Shop Pro, my graphic editor of choice.Good clear explanations andexcellent examples do a great job of illustrating how "tweaking"things like the color depth and color pallete affect file sizes, downloadtimes, and picture quality.Originally, I kept renewing this book from mylocal library until I finally just bought my own copy.A great book! ...
