1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
I purchased this book just for the information on "section breaks." What little there is, in a word, [bad]. It is therefore totally useless to me .... Here is a quote from that section:4-0 out of 5 stars Stillstruggling
I found this a little easier to understand and use than "The Complete Idiot's Guide."I don't know what that makes me. It is pitched at a more elementary level and the jokes and cartoons are better. It is more frank about the limitations of Word 2000Neither book deals with the problems of crashes and glitches, and when (and how) you have to telephone the [$$$]-please have-your-credit-card-number-ready line for help. I'm still struggling (having come from Wordperfect for DOS). 3-0 out of 5 stars "Average" sums it up best
This is right on target: bought this not expecting much (I'm not a big fan of the dummy books). My wife wanted to start 'learning the computer' which translated into Word processing. This book really did serve as a good introduction to Word. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Useless
This book is seven years old. It was written for version 4.0. We are now up to 9.0.
4-0 out of 5 stars Its cool but you need to work with it.
It is a great program but you have to be willing to spend some time with it.At first I found it somewhat frustrating. But after I wile I got the editing commands down.I still use a keyboard but sometimes I feel like dictating and it fits the bill.So overall I would say be aware that you need to put in a little work to make it work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
This book tries to cover all aspects of e-commerce on the internet but stays at a "dummy" level in terms of educating the reader about the specifics. It lacked depth and was too general for me to get anything out of it.Plus it is cluttered with many outdated and annoying web references that detract readers from the chapter readings.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference tool
There are a lot of references to resources on the web relating to the topics covered in the book.Just what I needed! The book has straightforward and simple writing about the considerations of starting andrunning a web site for profit. Then if you want to do more research, thereare plently of URLs to start your research on the web about the resourcesavailable.Perfect for a beginner. This book also is showing up onbookshelves under the title "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Starting anOnline Business" under the same ISBN.Gordon Whyte is not givencredit as an author on this version, he just does the forward for the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough info...
I bought this book about a couple of months ago and I need an easier way to do my reports and faster. They did not show anything until I went online and found "parameters", did not have anything about "parameters", in the book.Book is good for basic use.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is An Absolute Waste Of Time To Read!!!
This book will give you boring definitions, but it doesn't really go into anything why I needed to learn how to do.There are way to many "Ask someone who is computer literate to help you with this."There was one explanation that said the topic is too difficult to explain and I should trade some "homemade cookies" to someone that will show me how to fix the problem.I'm not kidding look it up for yourself if you don't believe me.I don't know what audience this book is for but it seems to me that it was written for computer illerate people that will not get any answers anyway. Its more like "This stuff is too tough for you to learn, tell you what go have a cookie."I like to tell the author to go do something else...

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
...My user level: beginner to intermediate (I already know how to build basic tables, forms, queries, trying to step up into the world of more complex relationships, reports, etc). I was pretty disappointed with this book: cut out the "for dummies" fluff and what's left are simple instructions on how to use the built in wizards. When I looked for example, for information on form controls in the index, I found they weren't even referenced. The front cover "cheat sheet" is just a listing of telephone and online tech support phone numbers (which you will end up shelling out $$ to call) and web addresses.Read more

This book does have some good parts to it and would be a great starting point to people wanting to get into games. It covers enough to get you going, but sometimes doesn't cover enough to let you expand on what you have learned.Much of the time, i would have to look through the sdk help to figure something out/get a better explaination of some of the stuff in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you want to pass the test, read this.
This book is the antidote to boring or overwhelming text books. In actuality, you need to learn and memorize the same facts and figures but the author's style makes it much less of a chore. In addition, the included CD allows you to get comfortable with the taking of the certification test. The book and the CD allowed me to confidently and successfully pass my certificationtest.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper it was written on and way overpriced.
The information in this book is worse than incomplete. The practice questions in the book and on the CD are nothing like those on the EXAM. There are many practice questions that are poorly worded, and have WRONG answers. There are also many questions with TYPO's. Example there was a question comparing DIMMS and RIMMS, but all the the answers referenced SIMMS. Stay away from this please!!!!

Matt Bamberg's book Digital Art Photography for Dummies is an excellent resource for both the beginner and the advanced student of Digital Photography. Suggestions which I have used to great effect to dramatically improve my own compositions and to better concentrate and focus my shots.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners, but...
As a graphic designer with a working knowledge of these programs, I should have known the questions I'd have would be a bit more in depth than an all-in-one book would cover. This book consistently let me down, sometimes not even covering topics I needed to know more about (H&J settings, layer questions, etc.). If you're new to this software, and need to know the basics, this book would be great for you. If you're beyond the basics - try getting whole books on the programs you're using.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good grief...
Worthless is the keyword here. About as clear as mud. I purchased ACS primarily for use on a website. This book could not even get me past the opening screen of the GoLive program--I had to go to a non-dummy book (Adobe Creative Suite Bible) to get that info. Don't be a dummy--spend your dollars for smarts, which isn't to be found in this book. I wish we could give zero, or negative, scores.

1-0 out of 5 stars I was a Dummy for buying this.
I mainly bought this book to learn how to use GoLive.I thought everything was going fine until I tried to upload my site.First of all they left out the small detail that all your files should be saved in the Web Contents folder. Then when I clicked on the site icon, the icon which was supposed to be in that menu, didn't exist! The screen which they said you got when you clicked on this non-existent icon turned out to be the preference panal, the thing which should have been there, wasn't... etc, etc.It was like the last chapter was written for a different program! Finally, by accident I found in the drop down menu a way to upload the site. However, the only way to do that was to manually drag the contents from my hard disk folder to the upload menu and to put them in the web contents file.Everything worked, except all those photoshop files I had in the Pictures folder couldn't be transfered, so now over half my site has little blue and white questions all over it... Great going! The paper is even too rough for toilet paper.Maybe on a cold night when the power fails I will have something to burn....

4-0 out of 5 stars Covers Many Topics
This book hit on many topics and is a good reference book to use throughout the various stages of your divorce. Touches on a wide variety of things and generally answers some questions you might have. Some advice in this book I did not see in other divorce books such as what to do about debt in both of your names. Outlines what to do about credit card debt in both names as well as mortgage debt in both names. Mortgage debt is harder to get out of your name even if your spouse is awarded the asset. You are both still liable for mortgage debt until it is paid off or refinanced. Even if your divorce decree says that your former spouse is responsible for paying it. Book tells you how to communicate with credit card companies in regard to protecting your credit.
5-0 out of 5 stars thorough, reliable
Divorce for Dummies is a thorough overview of the divorce process and ways to make it easier and less expensive. I know the authors from interviewing them for my Internet radio show, [...] and other articles, and I know they are very careful in the resources and information they present. I also believe they really do have the consumer's best interest at heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, very helpful
I should be finished this book in about two days. It has been very helpful and specific and a vast improvement on some others in the Dummies series. Ellen Finkelsrtein has done a good job and crafted a good book. I particularly like the wayu she says: go to this web site and do this this, So I go to the webiste and bookmark ans I find it very valuable.
5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" Introduction to New Web Communication Tool
I just finished reading Ellen's book. For a year or more, I have seen webfeeds on some websites, and those little XML and RSS buttons showing up everywhere. For the life of me (and I'm pretty technosavvy), I just couldn't put it all in context. This book lays it out concisely and makes a compelling case that news and webfeeds are the next communication phenomenon, likely to be as ubiquitous as faxes and email.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great introductory book to RSS
Being a sometime web developer, it is important to keep up with the latest web technologies. If you have never heard of RSS or are not that familiar with it, I recommend this book as a great introduction to what RSS is, and how you might use it in a website.

5-0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 for Dummies
This book was very informative and helpful for a beginner that has Windows 98 installed on thier machine. It answered many questions and opened many new doors

4-0 out of 5 stars There's no perfect computer guide.....
For people still using Windows 98 (which in the current worm- infested environment seems a distinct advantage) this book is about the best you can do. Explains basic stuff, has good illustrations, and if the book doesn't EXACTLY answer your question, with some searching you can usually figure it out. The big questions remain 1) why are these products so complicated and 2) why isn't Microsoft publishing the best guide? It's really too bad that the BEST sources of software tips are the Q&A columns in newspapers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dummy approved
I purchased this for the lady of the house, an admitted newbie, raw recruit clueless computer user. I set up a computer for her in the living room, put my old dusty copy of Win98SE in it, told her to consult the book and not me should she have a question, and turned her loose. The book has done a admirable job answering her questions. A couple of months after buying it, I thumbed through it, and it did the same for me. This dummy thinks it's great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An well-rounded guide for beginners
This book is for people who know OF Ajax, but want to know more ABOUT Ajax.It walks through the layering of the different technologies that make Ajax what is, and in a very organized, logical, and effective way.The style and humor of the series is present as always, and there are lots of great examples and exercises included.
4-0 out of 5 stars Holzner is one of the best tech writers
I admit to being a fan of Steve Holzner. The man is an excellent technical writer with a knack for communicating the most complex concepts in simple, concise language.
2-0 out of 5 stars This book is SUPPOSED to be for dummies, not experts.
Having never touched any Javascript, XML, PHP, or Ajax, I assumed by the title of the book and the description on the back cover that this would let a complete beginner know everything that is needed to be known about these subjects.

1-0 out of 5 stars Usually Dummies books are good, but this one....
A horrible book to introduce you to Flash and a waste of money. At the end, I really didn't understand how the program worked - only how certain tasks are done. There's a lot of fluffy chapters. A much better book is Rosanna Yeung's Flash MX 2004 Hands-On Training.
4-0 out of 5 stars OK, but feels like a copy/paste from old book/flash version.
This book is pretty good but has some flaws.5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous for those starting out
Before reading this book, I had never used Flash and had only created websites by writting my own HTML.After reading the first few chapters, I was able to create my first movie! This book is definitley for beginners like me and is a great book to get you up and running.I would certainly recommend it for those starting out. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Average Information with Zero "WOW" Factor
I was expecting new and interesting ideas from this book, but was disappointed. If you truly have no idea how to find a sales baseline for your business or don't know how to track trends, this book is for you.If you are like me (you know the basics but were trying to find a more thorough approach), I wouldn't buy the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Unique and Valuable Book
I read the book from cover to cover and was thoroughly enlightened. From a content perspective, the book is first rate. Carlberg not only explains how to forecast, but he also clarifies the pros and cons of the various methods, explains how to reduce forecasting error, and offers excellent insight into regression and the other statistics involved in making and evaluating a forecast.
5-0 out of 5 stars If "For Dummies" Means Comprehensible...
If "For Dummies" means, clear, comprehensible, well illustrated, and fun to read to boot, then "Excel Sales Forecasting for Dummies" is true to its name. When you put together a guide to one of the most powerful and useful pieces of software in any company's arsenal with the genius of Conrad Carlberg to lead even the neophyte through the intracacies of sales forecasting, the combination is downright unbeatable. Carlberg has won awards for a string of some of the best "how-to" books on EXCEL and Microsoft Office. This new one gets my personal award for "best EXCEL guide of the year." ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Information for Getting Into Digital Music
This is a pretty good reference book for anyone who is just getting into digital music.
5-0 out of 5 stars "From listening to the radio TO creating your own music"
I've been searching for a book like this for quite a while. I was primarily looking for a book that explained how to use Windows Media Player. Other books would skim the surface but this one goes into detail for people who enjoy organizing and listening to their music in various ways. When the author finishes teaching you the in's and out's of Media Player, he's just warming up. The author then goes on to explain how to set up your computer for music to get the most out of it, how to record from analog sources into your computer, how to use portable digital players (such as I-Pod), ripping CD's and burning them, downloading and purchasing music, listening to the radio via your computer, and finally setting up your own computer-based, home recording studio and using it. whew!! I'm a professional musician and even I learned things from this book. Besides explaining the main topics of the book, Mr. Williams goes into detail well enough so that you don't feel like you are left hanging. Before this book came out you would have had to buy maybe three or four different books to cover the same information. It's well worth the price in my opinion. For someone who is wanting to get involved with any or all aspects of Digital Music and looking for a starting point, I highly recommend this book. Well done Mr. Williams.

5-0 out of 5 stars When will Amazon.com have autographed copies available?
What a charming book. I picked it up in a bricks-n-mortar retailer who shall remain unnamed... then slammed it down before I let my fingerprints mar the surface and be forced to take out a loan to pay for it. I would recommend purchasing the book, chock full of informative, helpful, and timely advice-lets here and saving a pretty penny, though. It's not like I wanted to buy the store... just this excellent tome of digital wit that will help the user navigate the recesses of Al Gore's Internet (does he have that phrase copyrighted yet?) and remain out of prison and without "severe monetary penalties" (or, more succinctly, consequences and repercussions). ...
