Really is For Dummies
I am a long time user of Quicken (Quicken 98, 99,) and found this book giving fair instructions for first time users, but answered NONE of the questions I had regarding features missing in the new Quicken 2002....Very disappointing. May be ok for those who have never used Quicken AND can't follow the HELP from within the program.

I have struggled through various "For Dummies" books in the past, painfully slogging through the dry material.This book was full of lightness but without distracting from its main purpose: to help the Quicken User understand how to use the tools at our fingertips.Read more

A very good book -- it helped me a lot
Quicken is hard to use until you get the hang of it, and this book helped me "get it." Everything is explained clearly. When I had aproblem or a question, I was able to look up the answer. Plus the writer isa CPA. He had some good advice about saving, investing, and lowering thetax bill.Read more

Not very helpful
This book is not very helpful. After reading the entire book, I felt I had not learned more than I had by casually glancing over the program. It does not go into very much detail and leaves many questions unanswered. Don't waste your time with this book if you're looking to really understand the nuts and bolts of Quicken.

Don't waste your money
Maybe I need a book for super dummies, but I thought this book was a total waste.I have the basic version of Quicken 2003 and this book spent most of the time talking about the Deluxe and Premier versions.Even when Basic was mentioned, the screen shots were never the same nor were the menus. Answered all of my questions. Far superior to struggling with Intuit's opaque "Help" file. Gives great "How to" advice and leads you through a do-able set-up in a very capable piece of software which is - in my opinion - poorly explained in its own accompanying documentation. Not An Intuit Product
Don't be mislead if you decide to buy this book. It comes with a disk but gives you no instructions on what to do with it. The only tech support number they provide is Intuit's tech support, and since this is not theirproduct they know nothing about it. The only information in the book is howto set up a Quicken data file geared toward your contracting business.Since Quicken is a personal finance software package, it has limitationswhen used as business software. You'd be better served using a productdesigned specifically for business like Quicken's "sister",Quickbooks. ... Read more

Not for MacIntosh Users
The Author and Amazon's descriptions do not inform you up front that this is a WINTEL application book. In addition, the Author rambles in her explainations and the narative is cluttered with technicl asides that confuse the beginning user. This is the best of them all!!!
If you really want to learn to USE Quicken in your everday finances, this book is the vehicle.It starts at the ground floor and slowly builds to cover all of the program's elements.From the simple checkbook, through investments, loans, internet access, on-line banking and investments, its all covered. You can work at your own pace and master each section before going forward.It's structured with logical break points that give you enough, but not too much in between. Using your own data for setting up and running the program makes it much more meaningful and useful.Intuit should pack this book with their program. ... Read more

Very basic.
Its a good beginner's book - both on investing and on using Quicken for your investments. Its a bit light on the material I was hoping for: depth about really optimizing my use of Quicken for investment tracking and analysis.

Not worth a nickel
I have found this book to be useless, and not a bit better than the Quicken help facility.Every single time I have tried to use this book, I have not even been able to find what I'm looking for in the index.Saveyour money.

More perfunctory than anticipated and contains errors
At least one window (Create Scheduled Transactions) is missing a button description (GROUP). The book does not address this at all. I could not find out whether it is possible to archive data in the registers and then remove it to reduce the number of online transactions. Does not address performance or configuration optimization as I thought a "Mastering" book would. I anticipated more in-depth coverage which would satisfy an audience already familiar with Quicken. ... Read more
