Not enough detailed information to suit my purpose
Maybe I just bought the wrong book, but... I was very disappointed in this one. This is the first "Dummies" book I have ever bought, and even though I was a novice at Quicken, I found it pitched at MUCH too low alevel. There's a lot this book doesn't cover, and what it does cover ispretty cursory. There are many statements to the effect that "youdon't really want or need to know how this works" and the author seemsconcerned with getting "too technical". It was almost a bitinsulting, and some of the attempts at humor are pretty juvenile. I am thekind of person who wants to understand what the software is doing and how.And I'll bet that people who are afraid of getting a little"technical", are not the ones who go out and buy a book on how touse a software program anyway. I later purchased "Quicken Deluxe 98 Ina Weekend" by Tinney, and found that a bit better, but stillincomplete. Would it be so hard to write a book that explained the basicsin the first section, and then provided all the detail in the back forreference as the user gets more and more experienced?? At the very least, Ithink authors of software application books should give a clear descriptionof the audience "level of sophistication" they are aimed for. Way too basic
The fact that customers who bought this book also bought books by J.K. Rowling (of Harry Potter fame) speaks volumes.

Not for a computer literate person
A well written book that falls far short of explaining in depth any complicated task.This book is for the novice user who is to lazy to use the built in help screens.Sorry I bought it.

A Really Good Book
I found this book to be very good. I wasn't using my copy of Quicken (it came free on my cmputer) because learning it seemed like such a chore. Butthis book showed me the ropes and got me going. Now I use Quicken withease.Read more

a tree died for this?
sadly this book is highly recommended by many sources.however, it has not been useful at all to help me set up my accounts or explain the capabilites of Quicken 2002.i've had to rely on myself to figure out how to get my accounts set up to where i understand them & to figure out the software features. i expected the book to offer detailed definitions of terms used in the program and 'how-to' examples.

This book adds nothing to what is already in Quicken on Line

Good reference manual
I have been a Quicken user since 1995, and I believe that the best way to learn the software is to start using it to manage your money.This is a good reference manual if you are fimilar with Quicken and want to learn the finer points of the sotware.If you are new to Quicken, I would recommend to dive right in and get a basic feel for the program before purchasing this book.

Excellent resource for intermediate users
When I started using Quicken three years ago, I mainly tracked daily transactions. That didn't take a lot of warm-up readings. But now, as I try to streamline the recordkeeping which includes investment tracking and taxplanning, it seems that more time spent in planning and setting up Quickenscheme will yield more meaningful results. If you find yourself in asimilar situation, then you might want to check out Mastering Quicken 2000by Stephen Nelson. Read more
