4-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Seen for QB Pro 2002
Janet Horn's textbook is the best I have seen in my years of teaching Quick Books Pro.This is a tutorial text, meaning that YOU, the student, have lots of work to do.The instructions are usually clear and concise and VERY easy to follow. An "end of chapter" exercise allows you to see what you learned in the chapter by working without a tutorial other than what was in the chapter. This book contains many screen shots, some of which are not correct, but all of which demonstrate the process of using the book.I've taught accounting for 18 years and have taught computerized accounting for approximately 10 years. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very little additional insight
There's very little in here that isn't in the help system.I've really tried to get some value out of it, but so far it hasn't told me anything that wasn't obvious.I thought that it might at least help me make some sense out of Quicken's somewhat clunky interface, but it doesn't, for the simple reason that it is a robotic transcription of the software to book form.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book! Lots of Info!
This book has lots of step-by-step instructions and illustrations for completing tasks with Quicken. So what, right? Well, what sets this book apart from other computer how-to books is the background information the author provides about your finances. She explains all kinds of things, including investment basics, home-buying/mortgage tips, and tax info. I learned lots of things I didn't know about financial matters AND learned how Quicken can help me keep track of everything. Bravo!

3-0 out of 5 stars Portfolio Info Missing
This book is good for a beginner. It certainly covers all the features from A to Z. My only complaint is that the Portfolio View changed significantly between Quicken 2000 and 2001.I bought this book hoping that there would be some explainations of how to use this new feature. There is no explaination, not even a little icon indicating "New for 2001". ... Read more

Editorial Review

Read with horror as author Christopher Farrell pulls back the curtain to expose how market makers and specialists manipulate stocks to fleece traders and investors. Then follow as he shows how you can turn the tables to work the markets to your own advantage. "If you approach day trading the same way that you approach investing, you are sure to lose money," Farrell warns in

4-0 out of 5 stars A Few Trading Tips
This book was very good back in it's day. I think the author should publish a revized edition with more up to date strategies.
3-0 out of 5 stars Beware of superbookdeals seller
If you want to buy the book, go ahead, just be careful of superbookdeals, they take your money but don't deliver and don't answer emails. Caveat Emptor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Outdated for sure, but not worthless
The first thing I look at when I pick up a trading book is when it was published.Pick this one up--"Copyright 2000."That immediately sets off a siren in my head, and warns me to take everything in the book with a substantial amount of salt.Anyone can write a book on how to successfully invest in a market where everything is hot--if you don't believe me, do a search of real estate investment books and see how many of them are older than the current boom. When everyone's an expert--well, just be careful.Couple that with the fact that this guy's website is gone--I've read up a little on him and it would appear he's no longer trading--and caution is definitely warranted.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Pile of Doo Doo
This is the WORST BOOK EVER!Sunny Harris should be ashamed of herself - or at least Locked Up!

1-0 out of 5 stars No substance, a waste of paper
The book starts with 112 pages of very basic information, information for the totally clueless newbie. If you have more than 3 months of investment experience or if you've read 2 beginner daytrading books or if you've surfed investment sites the last 3 months, you won't learn anything new here. The next 200 pages are references, website addresses, and stuff that belongs in a phone directory. Page 189 to page 313 is a listing of NASDAQ stocks!?!?!? All it shows is the ticker symbol, company name and which sector the company belongs to. NOTHING ELSE!!! I would have rated it zero stars if Amazon.com had such a rating. This book is all bun and no burger, I read my copy at the library (313 pages in half an hour). Leave this PoS on the shelf!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ripped off!!
I couldn't believe that I bought this crap. I didn't learn anything from this book. It has so little content. Most of the book is an appendix listing the stocks on the Nasdaq. This is most likely an attempt to make money from the day trading craze. I bought this because of the last few glowing recommendations butthey must have been paid to write it. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. There are better ones out there that provides better details on day trading. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not that bad...
Despite the previous reader reviews, I appreciated this book. It describes the ETFs as a tool to use and It explains why. The problem is, I think, that there isn't that much to say about ETFs to fill 280 pages (they are basically a simple idea), so the author has been "forced" to make a wide discourse about investment philosophy and asset allocation to write the book. Probably this approach disappointed the expert readers, who expected something more sophisticated, but it's coherent with the title: "the easy way to get started". Concluding: a good book for beginners, not a comprehensive reference text for sophisticated investors.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment
After reviewing the front and back covers, I purchased this book. The author has spent 26 years writing a newspaper column on the subjects of money and investments. The author is not bashful with his opinions. The book describes the only strategy to use in buying securities, was the buy and hold strategy.Holding securities for 25 years. He does not believe in day trading, advising the reader against doing so.The book does not believe in fundamental analysis, technical analysis, or chart reading. It says you can not predict future prices and should not rely on historical prices as a guide. The book spends too many chapters describing stocks, mutual funds, bonds and how to find a broker. This did not leave much room to talk about Exchange Traded Funds.Which was the title of the book.Only one and half chapters were devoted to the subject. The book had potential, but it was a big disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diversifing with Exchanged Traded Funds
The inner workings of Exchanged-Traded Funds are well explained in Richard's book. Do-it-yourself investors would be wise to learn about ETFs, and then apply that knowledge to better diversify their holdings and save expenses. Richard's book offers the sophisticated and the novice a single-source reference that can make you money over the long run. Building a well-diversified portfolio and then managing it is difficult, but "All About Exchange-Traded Funds" provided me with the insights that only an experienced advisor, like Richards, can offer. If more people had understood the essential precepts found in this book, far less money would have been lost during the past few years. Read it and profit by it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for the nuts and bolts of trading
This book was a great addition to the other books I have read about trading for a living. While Gary Smith's book was his actual trading process and Alexander Elder's covered the psychological dynamics of creating a system, this book really got into the technical dynamics of risk and expectancy with formulas and excellent explanations of how to be profitable based on your amount of trades/risk/expectancy.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for day traders
I would recommend the book to stock traders, but also if you're trading futures -as in my case- the book is worthwhile as a blueprint for devising business and trading plans. Mind you, the advice given in the book about equipment, software and hardware is already obsolete since the book was written a few years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great supplement to TYWTFF
In his follow up to his first book 'Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom' Van K Tharp expands on some of the ideas presented specifically in the realm of trading electronically.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is this book a 'crazy perturbation'?

5-0 out of 5 stars How to build investment success.
Eric Prentis has written The Astute Investorfor people who want to take responsibility for their own investment success. To be astute in any field requires hard work, study, and reflection. The book contains no magic bullets or supposedly sure -fire techniques.Rather, it presents a good introduction to the most important investing topics. Moreover, it also contains much advice on how to discipline one's mind and emotions in order to make wise financial decisions, as well as a thorough section on retirement planning.
5-0 out of 5 stars The New "Gold Standard" in Explaining Market Investing
Author Eric Prentis, Ph.D. has written a great, easy-to-read book for anyone interested in stock and/or bond investing. "The Astute Investor" is a book that novices can grow into as Prentis covers the basics of investing, all underlying theories on investing, and the interplay of markets. It will also serve as a great reference book for those who have investing experience but need theory validation or information from time to time (we all do!). Prentis also includes extensive information on how to use the Internet to find current, valuable investing data.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I have read lots, and lots, and lots, of trading books. Most of them are not that great but contain a few valuable nuggets here and there, so they are all worth reading to me.
3-0 out of 5 stars A NEW EDITION WOULD BE WELLCOME
Before all I want to say that many topics are given for granted and I find the book not really easy for a beginner. Markets have changed a lot since this book was written and many chapters need revision having in mind that many readers are non native speakers of english and have no idea of many topics given for granted

1-0 out of 5 stars another nassar piece of garbage

Thanks to the ever-increasing real-time access that the public has to financial markets, it's now possible to play in the same league as the market makers who drive the daily price fluctuations of a stock. This book is good but outdated. In any event you cant expect to get the wholy grail of trading in one single book. You need to read and test and test again until you come up with a trading system that produces you consistent results.
